Solid Strike EVO 2017: Metal is Back

Aug 31, 2016
by Solid Bikes
The Solid Strike has already proven itself as a true racing machine in the past two years with several podiums at National and International level. Now arrives the new incarnation for 2017, the Strike EVO which takes the bike up a level; making it lighter, faster and even more of a blast to ride. The new Strike EVO is an all aluminum build, using no carbon parts and weighs in at an incredible 15.3kgs/33.7lbs!

For Solid Bikes owner, Peter Schmid, the project was initially an experiment. "I was just thinking that aluminum as a material is not yet completely exhausted and therefore we started to work intensively on the project 'No Carbon,' to carry out tests and to continuously optimize our platform. In the end, we reduced the frame weight by 300g, whilst improving strength and stiffness. The result: carbon as a material in no way guarantees to reduce the weight of a downhill bike, therefore the new Solid Strike Evo performs at the highest level without any carbon parts and is a strong, reliable, modern and above all else, a faster DH bike than the predecessor.”

The Strike EVO has not only reduced in weight, we redesigned a new rear linkage in the bike: milled from one piece of 6061 T6, lighter and more precise in response. The aim was to increase stiffness and to attain a more visually intricate and refined finish. Initially, two models of the new Solid Strike EVO will be available. The Solid Strike EVO Factory and Solid Strike EVO BPS. Both bikes are no compromise, race ready machines. The Factory and BPS are both available in the two impressive new colourways; stealthy black-silver and the bright teal-blue. For the near future, an even more affordable version of Solid Strike EVO is planned, the EVO Race model to be offered at € 2,999.

For 2017, we made some updates to the specifications. The Solid Strike EVO Factory comes first, with Fox suspension. After extensive testing with a number of dampers, the air-sprung Fox X2 has emerged as the optimal rear counterpart to the Solid Strike EVO. The Factory model comes equipped with awesome Kashima coated 2017 Fox suspension front and rear. The direct sales model means that with Solid Bikes, racers and bike park shredders alike get an incredible deal with a great performance-price ratio. You don’t have to hold on for long until you can get riding a 2017 Strike, framesets and full bikes can be ordered online from the 27th August. The first delivery of framesets will be made from 12th September and first delivery of complete bikes will be made by the end of September. As always, bikes are assembled by hand by Solid Bikes in the Black Forest, built carefully and shipped to the customer.

At EuroBike, the Strike EVO Factory, and the Strike EVO BPS and the new Solid Flare will be finally revealed in the flesh. The entire Solid team is looking forward to speaking to visitors, talking through the details and sharing our excitement about our new 2017 range.

light and NOT made of plastic? i'm sold. german engineering at the best Wink

ps as i understand what we got here is a short link rocker actuated shock configuration, á la DW / vpp, am i wrong?
  • 18 4
you are right about the PS but I worry it'll go the way of the session 88. they dented easier than something that easily dents.
  • 3 2
@makripper: i can second that... you could put a dent into that downtube like it was made from tinfoil . the bikes still seemed to hold together somehow
  • 9 2
guess thats one advantage for alu > carbon

  • 1 0
how about Ancillotti and Mde? @Bruccio
  • 4 0
@makripper: I wouldn't worry about it. Mine certainly hasn't dented, and we haven't had anyone in the Strike threat report on that either. It's incredibly well made and strong in all the right places.
  • 5 0
@trasselkalle: very impressive! Glad to hear the good news! Hope they offer them in North America one day
  • 1 2
 @makripper: cemmecal meta much
  • 1 0
@cauboi: as an italian living in germany i'm surrounded by german made bikes.....ancillotti's would be quite a rare sight here Wink
  • 1 0
Thanks for the positive comment! Yes our design is a short link 4-bar system - along the lines of DW/VPP.
  • 2 0
@solidbikes: Please send me one to Canada Big Grin thanks!

We have been riding and testing this bike since December and this season I have already put 200 hours of descending on this frame and it's still running amazing. Peter and the solid guys have really created a master piece. It's a solid build (Mind the pun)
  • 15 3
Woulda been even lighter with 26.
  • 5 0
Don't know if they've changed it, but my Strike can be set up 26 or 27.5.
  • 10 2
 agreed. #26aintdead

Huh, nice looking bike. Please tell me that with all that room in the triangle there are bottle mounts- I hate carrying a pack for park days, but a bottle would be nice on long runs.
  • 4 1
A drink stop during a dh run? Damn, unless you're doing 20 mins + descents, isn't that a bit uneccessary? Hate any pauses in my runs, only 7 mins, but still.
  • 9 0
@carlitouk: Sure, especially at the end of a long day.

.... It ain't water that's going in that bottle Wink
  • 4 0
@tsheep: Now we're talking the same language! Smile
  • 11 2
Rocks are gonna strike the shock tho, no? even with that 'fender', seems less than ideal.
  • 2 1
looks like that shock would get trashed from trail debris. still a sick bike tho
  • 1 0
@theseanp: There are simply put no problems in real life, and the fender works wonders.
  • 9 0
tup that´s a really nice bike dudes!!!
  • 10 0
Thanks , we're super happy about how it's turned out also!
  • 9 2
 Yeah, looks solid...

Looks nice. Newb question: Are the stanchions supposed to be sticking out the top that much on the Fox 40? I feel like they are always more flush when I see them on other bikes. Is it a personal preference or does it depend on the stack height or something? Just curious.
  • 4 0
I suspect it's personal preference. At least on moto bikes the further you slide the triple clamp down the fork tubes the twitchier the front end gets, since you're effectively increasing HTA and decreasing wheelbase.
  • 3 0
Personal preference, they could be flush on that bike too, it just means that the handlebar/stem would be higher equaling to a straighter riding posture.
  • 2 0
Sticking out stanchions- bike more nimble and turns easier. Flush stanchions- longer bike, more stable at speeds. Less twitchy. You set it up depending on the type of track you are riding on.
  • 2 0
Also worth noting that with more sticking out, the front of the bike becomes lower. On certain bikes I find it best to clamp higher up to get in the right body position and eliminate the over the bars sensation of a super low front.
  • 2 0
One of the nice things about dual-crown forks is you have that adjustment built in. Playing with the clamp height you can get a degree or two of HA swap, and the corresponding wheelbase and stack changes.
  • 1 1
 It looks cool Smile

Just had a reply from Solid on their facebook page, saying new Enduro sled will be out early 2017.... can, not, wait!!!
  • 1 0
Will not wait. Will get a MDE Damper. Now.
  • 4 0
the shock would get dirty as hell and will probably need service more without a shell to keep it clean, wtf
  • 2 0
No more than most other frames. I service mine every 30 hours and still running the same shock after 200 hours and still looks new.
  • 3 0
Nice to see that companies are trying to further the use of non carbon materials rather than drop them just because carbon is easier to make lighter
  • 5 0
yes!! tired of all the "Carbon Super Bike" B.S.
  • 4 0
 Give up bos suspension~?
  • 4 1
I just weighed my DH rig. Its a light 42.8lbs. no problem
  • 3 2
I feel like that shock is going to need serviced after every ride in that position, anyone agree? Or, are shocks so good not they are impervious to stones/dirt/mud/blood?
  • 3 0
Check my comment. I have been running this bike for solid since December for our business and the shock come with a guard and our shock still looks and runs sweet. We have serviced the shock on the recommended time and nothing out the ordinary needed attention.
  • 9 0
It is a common concern when people first see the shock position but the shock stays clean with the fender , some of our World Cup team aren't even running the fender and it hasn't caused any shock damage - to air or coil shocks. Service intervals are the same as any other suspension design. All bikes a shipped with a fender as standard ( apologies, it is carbon Wink )
  • 3 0
And they are still making money with prices that low ?? Damned
  • 3 0
ok, tell me the rider in that last berm picture rode out ...
  • 3 0
great looking bike, great price, German engineering!
  • 2 1
Looks awesome, to me it's great to see a company making a bike without much hype, just a bike that works.
  • 2 0
Are there any changes to geometry?
  • 6 0
Geometry has stayed the same - all the team riders are super happy with the way it is. We simply worked to tweak the platform we have to get the best out of it with the changes to the linkage, tubing and of course specifications.
  • 4 0
@solidbikes: will you publish somewhere the data of the new linkage? I am thinking of antisquat, anti rise, leverage ratio, pedal quick back and wheel path. That would be great!
  • 2 0
 @Happymtbfr:

Here is some info on our linkage design which includes all those details !

 @solidbikes: thanks!
I wish more manufacturers would supply this kind of data or like you acknowledge the the work of Tony
  • 3 1
15,3 kg oh my fuckin god .....
  • 2 0
 Wow. That looks... Solid!
  • 3 2
Nice, im no isolationist but the less Chinese(and any other rights supressing chicom/mid east types) goods the better.
  • 3 3
I guess you could say... Thats a pretty solid bike! Yeah!!!
  • 2 2
Oh my days that looks Solidly Striking..........OK I'll go now
  • 1 1
I'm assuming it won't be available in North America?
  • 2 1
 That photo is a bail.
  • 1 2
 How longs the warranty?
Till its out the door.
