Almost reflects some people I wont go on a bike trip with.
They just need to: 1) Stop and get food 1-2 times on the way to the mountain, 2) Make at least one extra bathroom stop, 3) Show up 3 hours after the park opens, 4) Spend 30-min working on someone's bike, 5) Another 30 min playing some version of grabass in the parking lot 6) Do a few runs then bail because they have "to get back soon' 7) Even though they have 'to get back soon' stop for food and drinks for another 2 hours.
Total cost of tickets plus food and drinks >$120. Total time riding ~2 hours. Total calories burned 150, total consumed 3000
rode up to blue mtn pa from va(3 hours) to ride. classic dh bros shenanigans all the way up. 5 runs in i washout on the smallest table on the mountain and break my collarbone.....
@cptstoney: That is just the absolute worst luck on a great day to shred. After I finished my race run, the team and I went on other trails we have been looking at during the weekend and as we enter the rock garden I wipe out......thank god for my 661 chest protector the armadillo back saved me...I took it easy after that and yea...I was ok.... Blue MTN CA
bro, my car's totally in the shop and I get paid next week though I'll totally hit you gas money then if I can grab a ride with you this weekend...though I do have this thing to get back for...
those look smaller on the internet, that is the funniest/ most accurate line in the video. I cant tell how many times ive strolled on up to a section after checking it out on video only to find it bears absolutely no resemblance what so ever. The scale is hilariously distorted. 5 feet in video is approximately 20 feet in person. And dont even get me started on how wildly misleading footage , (especially go pro footage ) is with conveying how challenging the terrain is. Theirs was a few cases where after watching someones go pro footage, and upon actually seeing the course my self, i wouldnt have even thought it was the same bloody trail. The formula works out to be roughly 2 - 3 times gnarlier than how it looks in video. If you use that rule its surprisingly effective.
Yep, went to whistler last year and trying to tell my friends that the terrain is soo much gnarlier than my GoPro footage suggests is just getting boring
@GetREkTm8: Or, you know, just run decent tire pressure appropriate for your tires. I used to buy into the DH tube idea too, then I worked at a shop and fixed 1000's of flats. DH tube or not, if you are going to flat it's not the tubes fault.
For the record, I've flatted at Whistler. Both times I pumped my tires up with a hand pump and didn't put enough in - I could even feel it was low when riding. Took the risk, paid the price.
@GetREkTm8: so what's our issue here? I run dh tubes... And ride my bike to have fun, isn't that why you ride? Or are you that guy who buzzes tires on blue trails?
@GetREkTm8: I'm a mechanic at Summit and all of our DH rental bikes come with DH tubes direct from the manufacturer. And when they flat, we replace them with DH tubes. Do you think I would actually enjoy replacing tubes all day if we ran XC tubes in our DH rentals? No thanks.
@GetREkTm8: All i have to say is 5-10 inner tubes per year (with little or no puncture protection)at lets say £5 each = stans conversion kit £50 fro the first year, £12 per year for the sealant afterwards( minimum punctures) its worth the long term investment guys. in the words of NIKE....JUST DO IT.
@GetREkTm8: @GetREkTm8: ive never been to whistler though... so must have been someone else sorry. And I dont live in the US so why would I support Trump? maybe a bit more pressure and you wouldnt flat. I find its mainly the tires casing hardness that prevents flats the most. there will be hardly any more puncture protection between a xc and dh tube if your tire pressure is still too low to prevent rocks from hitting your rims. I agree there should be more options of tires and tubes at such a big park for people who want them but lets be honest if you smash your rim into a squre edged rock a dh tube wont make a difference. Also youd have more friends to film videos with if you were nicer to people just saying. that way you may be able to find people that can keep up with your godly speed. haha have a good day and good luck finding friends with your attitude im going to go on a ride now... with friends
DH/Freeride tubes are the scam. IMO if your going to "pop", it will happen with the regular tube just as easy as the heavy tube. Tubeless is the way to go.
Things left out: "Should we pay to do Top of the World" "Why isn't anybody on the gondola?" "I keep casing it" Being told to look for "The Kings of Whistler"...and then spotting one and getting genuinely excited. "WE ARE NOT STOPPING FOR LUNCH TOMORROW!" "Did you see that bear????" "I can't even see the landing" " There's another lift? Garbanzo zone?" "I just keep casing it." "Yout want to push back up and...nope." "B Line...sounds lame." "Look, they're using a bulldozer to groom that jump." "I'm gonna walk that. We are gonna be here a long time"
Oh, and pointing at the giant rock in Garbo zone under the lift and not being able to comprehend how they could stop at the bottom.
Exactly one year ago was my first time in Whistler. Good memories... And the "those look smaller on the internet" is so true, I spent 3 months prior to the trip watching every single youtube video, to the point that I could actually remember some trails by the time I got to them, and still everything was really gnarlier!
Haha, hilarious as always!
I plan to go to BC next year but there's no way in the world I will hit Whistler on the first week. I want to ride some Squamish and North Shore trails by the power of my legs before I get on the lift. I am pretty sure my first day will look just like that. I'll be shittin myself and pay attention to irrelevant details. Day2 let's warm up and then hit A-Line until we really clear all the tables.
Day3 in hospital feeds Facebook with pictures of stitches on the broken collar bone
Based on what I did last year and the tremendous wealth of local knowledge, I think you'd be really well served to to hit the park right off the bat for a day, then jump into the Squamish and North Shore stuff, then back to the park.
The guy we went to visit with was trying to talk us into going to do Pemberton shuttles when it was raining in the bike park. Video was SOOOOO tempting, but riding Whistler in the rain is like riding Pisgah (my home) in the dry. My dream trip up there would be 2 days in the park, then down to Squamish for a day of just beast mode exhausting trail rides, rest day at the lake and stuffing my face with food and beer, then hit the shore and Pemberton for two days, then finish with 2 more days in the park.
But to be honest, I could ride the park for a week solid if my body would take it. Get to stop, look around, walk back up...hang out and wait for lots of people to hit stuff to get ideas, really REALLY explore all that just the park itself has to offer. After that, two days of just wandering on foot. Last night...complete and absolute bender!
Oh, and not one urge to see Crankworx. I'm a participant, never a spectator.
@bizutch: it has to do with the mix of my low skill and my ambition... I will hurt myself or my bike in Whistler, the only question is how bad. So I want to see BC before that I'm not into just riding for the sake of riding. I want to visit and ride with people I met through Pinkbike.
@WAKIdesigns: I am an only child. If I'm in motion, I'm happy. Trying to link up with others is my worst nightmare. Got lucky to go with a hard as nails, down to business guy last year and we hardly spike except on the lift. Just rode from 10-5 3 days straight. Stopped for a 15 minutes swap of broken parts a few times and the mistake of bothering with lunch day 1. Other than that....burning rubber. Hah. I busted my Whistler like a hooker on meth.
Not been to Whistler yet but this video is like me pretty much every time I go to Portes du Soleil. Think this was my fifth trip this year and I messed up putting my bike on the lift so badly that it fell off the lift! Luckily near to the bottom. Oh the shame of it.
So you're the one!? I'm in Morzine for the summer and there are a lot of people embarrassing themselves trying to put the bikes on the lift, alas it had to be said mostly ladies, it's not about strength, just wheelie the bike on ????
One thing I noticed in the video is it looks stupidly busy and expensive in Whistler !
@andydd: I am a chairlift struggler. Im guilty of getting the bike on the back wheel and handing it over to the attendant.I've not quite mastered the get the bike and myself on same lift as of yet one time I did, I nearly face planted and just got scooped up in time...others just see the attendant at the top thinking 'wtf' as there's a bike and no rider.I am not proud of this but saves carnage. Everything is easy when you know how.
@icklerachy: a good tip would be just practise wheelie-ing the bike in front of you and be able to walk along with it in that position if it gets wobbly just rest the seat in your crotch and be able to walk forward in that position, all the chairlifts require you to do this and just pop it forward do the wheel lands in the correct place.
Unfortunately some of the staff are not that helpful and don't do it for you.
The thing is it's not about male v female strength, DH bikes can be heavy so lifting them is not the problem.
Have a practise getting your bike into the wheelie position and walking forward and next time hey presto no probs ????
@andydd: @andydd: the new set up on Zore catches the missus out. The two racks are quite close together and as the people in front sit down the thing you're aiming the wheel for lifts higher than the axle of the front wheel so then it does become strength thing as you have to lift your bike. In Les Arc two of their lifts you physically have to elevate the back wheel off the floor by around a foot, she had no chance with either bikes. If they have the wheel catcher a the right constant height then it can be a piece of piss.
@andydd: I'm sorry but I've never had any experience with the morzine lift system, could be very simple.I think you'll find not every chair lift uses your method though, some you need to lift onto the back or hook on.I never once mentioned male v female strength though? I merely said I struggle getting myself and my bike on the same lift.I can get my bike off the other side no drama.i am more than capable of wheeling my bike in a straight line and get on with gondolas a lot better tbh.some of us don't go to bike parks season after season and got our chair lift bike placement dialled hey
I think I'm good contender for the worst First-Time-In-Whistler. I traveled roughly 8500 km to get there. On the first day in the park, on the third ride I crashed. I got a nice concussion with memory loss and a badly sprained wrist. I have been off the bike for two and a half weeks and slowly starting to ride again just now.
The only upside is, that I planned my trip for six weeks overall. Judging from my experience so far, that should give me another three rides...
I'm in Morzine at the mo and I think someone should run classes on how to place your bike on the ski lift, the number of people today making a complete cock up of the simple task of wheelie-ing your bike on was amazing.
That was the best film I've seen on here ever.....Comedy genius ! Secretly ( I think that'd be me in some ways ) on the inside anyway...... Well done those men

wouldnt trade it for the world though!

Sunny day- Whistler lift line level: Black Friday.
