Urban ride with Norco Bikes

Jul 16, 2009
by Tyler Maine
Today was all about riding bikes at the 2010 Norco Bikes launch in Vancouver B.C. This morning all the media threw legs over various urban bikes (think commuters) and proceeded to follow team riders Ryan Leech, Dylan Korba, Ben Boyko and Darcy Turenne around the city's water front. The weather was amazing and the riding paths really showed us that it's easy to get around the city's core on a bike.

Check our video and pics inside,Rolling around on two wheels is one of the most fun things that I get to do in my day to day life, but for many it's their primary means of transportation. Bike paths play a huge roll in major centers and Vancouver just opened up a new path across the Burrard Bridge to open the public's eyes to the fact that bikes are viable options for commuting to work, save money and are environmentally friendly to boot.

Whether you are on a fixie, a DJ hardtail or a true commuter bike, you can make a difference and Norco wanted to show us just how easy it is to get around portions of the 2010 Winter Olympic host city. The team riders were on hand to entertain us at every moment that they saw a feature that was deemed worthy enough for them to ride on too.

Ryan and Dylan put on a good show and even had a slip up or two:

The electric Slipstream and the Fixie Spade were two hits amongst the media for various reasons, be it easy of pedaling or high cool factor.

After the urban ride, we got to head out on an epic All Mountain ride. Super fun ride, however, the heat was a little bit intense. We rode the trails on Simon Fraser University's campus, and they were so fun! I'd definitely suggest for anyone in the area that has not rode them to check them out. After a long All Mountain ride, we all regrouped at the Burnaby Mountain Skills Park, built by Jay Hoots himself, to have a epic BBQ and watch the boys do it up on the dirt jumps.

After everyone filled their bellies with beer and burgers, the Norco riders started to shred the dirt jumps with some of the local kids, and riders from the trip. Tailwhips, 360's, and backflips were pulled off, some with better endings than others. However, that being said, the ending to our 2010 Norco Product launch was a nice wind down. We all sat under the Norco tents, enjoyed some Norco provided beverages, and watched Norco's premier riders rip up the jumps.

Before I wrap things up I'd like to throw out a huge thanks to Norco Bikes for inviting us on this trip. They provided us the ups, and the downs to ensure we had an awesome 3 days in Vancouver. Rides on the shore, epic urban sessions, and all mountain rides mixed with great food, awesome people, and a perfect atmosphere ensured we would have a fun time. To check out more photos from the trip, jump on over to Jordan's 2010 Norco Product Launch album, and comment away.

Hope you guys enjoyed the content so far and we'll bring you more in the coming days, and see you on the trails!

  • 2 2

what is there to be disapointed about? The way people ride their bikes disapoints you? Thats pretty sad... you should work on focusing your energy on more positive things rather than upsetting yourself over the way someone rides lol

lol, you clearly took it the wrong way, I have a series of bikes and enjoy almost every dicipline of riding, but when I'm watching a video of road riding... fixies are always the most entertaining.

Why wouldn't they make commuter bikes? That expands their market and adds more business. It's called marketing!

yah but thers a recession and it probably costs alot to make extra bikes that they dont sell alot of

norco is producing hipster bikes now, wow ( fixed gear riser bar bikes ) i have been riding a fixed for work for the last 8 years, now i see them everywhere and people crashing on them cause they dont know how to ride them, c'mon norco, just stick to what you know how to make

What does people crashing on fixed gear bikes have to do with norco making them? And why should they not? When companies experiment, two things could happen... the consumers could benefit or the company could have a loss and a lesson learned. Either way it won't hurt you!

And to correct you seanbob, the Spade has a flip flop hop, meaning it has the ability to be a regular style drive mech with brakes, or a fixed gear. Just flip the hub.

Was that an actual comment or seanbob looking for a way to say "I ride fixies alot" and just adding Norco to the sentence since the article is about them? Talk about hipster... Rolleyes

Yea, I think any bike company, in their right mind, would follow trends... thats how they make their money and that's obviously what the consumers want... following trends doesn't mean you have to sacrifice practicality or quality
