Nukeproof Scout 29"

Nukeproof 2016

The Scout 29 is an all new machine for 2016. Nukeproof say it was designed with their clients in mind - trail riders who want to go fast! This 29" wheeled hardtail comes with a 66 degree head angle which surely makes it one, if not the slackest 29" hardtail on the market, the chainstay isn't super short at 440mm, but it is designed with speed, stability and grip in mind. There will be two models - this Pro model will come with SRAM X1 drivetrain, Guide brakes and Roam 40 wheels coated in Schwalbe tires. Retail price will be £1999

Scout 27.5"

Nukeproof 2016

The existing 27.5" Scout has been updated slightly with a 15mm lower bottom bracket and a 66 degree head angle. There will be two models, the fluro yellow Comp has colour matched Manitou Mattoc forks and a SRAM GX 1x11 drivetrain. The cheaper Race model will be silver and black with a 2x10 Shimano drivetrain.

Saddles, Seatposts and Pedals

Nukeproof 2016
Nukeproof 2016

These Nukeproof Vector saddles are an all new, in-house design. The bases are injection moulded with a triple density foam moulded and bonded directly on top, softer foam for more sensitive parts and harder towards the outsides. The cover is then stretched on and popped into a vacuum machine, which forces the fabric between the foam and base which gives a very secure fix, no staples and a great, clean finish. There will be an AM, DH and Sam Hill Signature, multiple colour options and cro-mo or Ti rails.

Nukeproof 2016
Nukeproof 2016

The OKLO seatpost sees an upgrade to an air spring opposed to the coil found in their first foray into the dropper post market last year. An external cable version will be £135 and an internally routed option at £165.

Nukeproof 2016

The Horizon pedal has been spotted on Sam Hill's bike at various events this year but now they are official - not just spy shots. These large platform pedals are 12mm thick with a slight concave but have 10 height adjustable pins on each side. These Horizon Comp versions have a cro-mo axle, plastic body and hit a £40 price point.

Nukeproof 2016

The top of the line, Sam Hill Signature Series Horizon pedal has cro-mo axles - or titanium if you want to drop £179 on some platforms. A mid-range chromoly axle version will cost £79.99.

Carbon Wheelsets and Handlebars

Nukeproof 2016

Carbon fibre is a new direction for Nukeproof and they are starting out with this 780mm carbon fibre mixed with fibre glass lay up. The fibre glass helps with compliance and vibration absorption and if they break you're likely to be able to ride home on them opposed to a catastrophic failure. Nukeproof say this is only a back up as they are very unlikely to break as they found them to be the second strongest bar on the market from their in-house testing, taking up to 680kg's of force before failure - alloy bars generally start to fail around the 350kg mark. No quibble, lifetime warranty just to be sure, to be sure.

Nukeproof 2016

Carbon wheels are also new for 2016 with downhill and all mountain versions. Complete wheelsets only to start with, in conjunction with Novatec hubs. Downhill rims will have a 29mm internal width and the all mountain will be set at 25mm internally, most modern hub options but no Boost compatibility as this isn't found on any Nukeproof bikes. Keeping in line with the brand's usual good value, retail prices will be £899 for a pair.

Pulse and Sam Hill Signature Series

Nukeproof 2016

The Nukeproof Pulse Team is a Paypal/ChainReaction team replica bike and is their lightest downhill bike to date at 35lbs. All the same components as the team including RockShox damping, SRAM X0-1 DH, Mavic Deemax Ultimates and Schwalbe tires.

Nukeproof 2016

The base model Pulse Comp is competitively priced at £3000. RockShox Boxxer Team and Kage shock, e.13 chain retention, SRAM GX drivetrain and Nukeproof finishing kit.

Nice looking design indeed. Not a fan of the name Nukeproof, bad taste IMO. Looks like a great bike tho!

"no Boost compatibility as this isn't found on any Nukeproof bikes."

Thank you NP for making stuff that works with all our stuff. I'm sold on your Scout just for that reason.

Must have been funded by Nuclear money

 Made my pulse quicken.
  • 9 0
i wish the shitty canadian dollar could go back up
  • 7 4
I love the new pulse but at £3000 it's £1000 more than the YT Tues base model. I think I'd go for that myself...
  • 1 1
Depends on whether the buyer can afford the bike outright, if not they would struggle buying the YT as I'm pretty sure they do not do the whole 0% finance thing anywhere else but in Germany but feel free to correct me if I am wrong!
  • 1 1
Could that be a mistake? I thought the base model pulse was only a little over £2000 last year.
  • 2 1
Sam needs to put some rainbow stripes on that frame. 3 world championships on three different bikes would be awesome!
  • 2 1
Understatement of the year! I'd be pretty happy with one. Well this is Sam Hill we're talking about and who knows how many he wants. He could definitely do it and I hope he does!
  • 1 0
@jaame: intense, iron horse, specialized. Already done.
  • 74 12
Is Sam Hill someone special that I should know about or something?

One of the best DH riders the sport has seen? Known for his particular riding along with flat pedals!!!
  • 38 4
 He's your half-brother...ask your Mom
  • 9 7
are you kidding?!? You just gotta be kidding.....
  • 9 3
Just some aussie dude who wants to be an ant.
  • 5 1
Is he going to just turn up and win the world championship? Yes or no?

I'm saying yes!
  • 14 0
He can't be my half brother... I'm way too slow on a bike to be related to him
  • 4 0
Very good comeback Sir...a good sport you are...Cheers!
  • 30 0
can't wait to see this new mega
  • 13 1
Yes! Thank you Nukeproof! Two scouts and no plus size! Happy. The only shame is the 650b one now looks a bit cheap.. But that's cool, I'm gonna get me a scout29 anyway. That thing looks like a blast.
  • 4 0
The pricing is good as well!
  • 5 0
There is a special place in my heart for aggressive hardtails like those.
  • 2 0
The question is.. Do they make those carbon wheels in 29? And a frame only option for the scout? So I can combine the two. (And some of those carbon bars)
  • 12 0
and if Sam Hill doesn't need boost we don't either.
  • 2 1
I really want his pedals but I'm not sure if they are worth the extra as the normal ones are pretty damn good. So which I'm i suposed to buy?
  • 1 0
Go for it, I've had a few sets of nukeproof pedals and currently got the top spec mag-ti electrons. Love them, if I was in the market for some new pedals I would be getting these.
  • 10 0
Saw the new mega at a trade show last month I can confirm it looks awesome. Wasn't allowed a pic I would have been escorted of the premises if I'd tried.
  • 12 2
I really like that 2016 Pulse. I love DH bikes with thin looking frames.
Maybe for the next season ;D
  • 10 0
Is it wrong I'm buzzin more about that slack 29er than anything else ? Including that lovely pulse
  • 4 0
Nah... It's awesome. You have good taste.
  • 8 0
Yet another 35-pound alloy DH bike... proud to say my 26" hardtail is heavier than that. How times change.
  • 8 1
that scout looks like a large travel dj
  • 3 0
Excuse me for sounding like a total n00b, but what is this boost everyone talks about? Can someone please explain to an uneducated person like myself?

P.S. the new Scout looks unreal. I have last years Scout Race and I honestly could ask for a better bike for the price....it literally does everything. Perfect all day bike.
  • 2 0
It is a new hub width standard that has been introduced, and as you can imagine is extremely unpopular with the masses as it changes frame widths. I believe it was introduced as a means of giving extra stability and strength to 29er wheels by increasing the angle of the spokes. I'm sure somebody will have more detailed info on it. In truth I read very little about it as I simply don't care about all these new standards that keep getting introduced every year
  • 2 0
Trek and Specialized wanted to re-sell some of their old 24 inch bike technology again... or something like that... because we all miss 3 inch tires.
  • 3 0
From the 2030 Wikipedia: BOOST was a key technology introduced in the mountain bike industry 2014. It was the successor of 650B and the predecessor of 30MINUS – all of them now known as the "terrible three".

Introduced to boost (hence the name!) sales by creating incompatibility of parts, they eventually led to alienated consumers postponing bike purchases and the eventual comeback of old school, durable mountain bikes.
  • 5 0
The Scout 29" is very similar to the DB Mason HT. Mason has 66.5 HA and 330mm CS. The Mason rips and so should the Scout!
  • 3 1
More 29ers need to be this slack. My enduro 29er, despite having 160mm of travel, has a 67.5 degree head tube angle, and it feels steep.
  • 5 0
29er hardtails were a revelation for me. never though I'd love a bike without suspension after riding fullies for years & years, but the 29" wheels make hard tails much more fun to live with, especially combined with agro geo( & a fairly short fork so you don't get as much "stapler" effect.)
  • 2 0
@groghunter I dont think I've greed with anyone here on pinkbike more than i agree with what you just said that 29er get me very exited actually too bad there aren't cheeper builds as i dont think i need those high specs to have fun
  • 2 0
@AMGoran Mason HT has a "low end" build (Sektor, X7 1x10, etc.) if you're looking for a cheap aggro 29er hardtail. Got mine for $800 USD-ish last winter.
  • 2 0
@Facingtraffic oh thanks I'm not really looking for a 29er at the moment i already got one that works but ill probably need a new one in the future haha looking for a cheaper dirt bike now if you have any suggestion you're welcome to tell me! haha
  • 1 0
I'm riding an On-One Parkwood. frame goes for $270 American. basically built it up from my spare parts box & some used deals(fork, mostly.) Also has enough clearance in the back for 27.5+.
  • 1 0
@hamncheez keep in mind that you can't compare HT and FS bikes head angles.
the sag from the rear suspension is said to make any FS ~1° slacker once you jump on them.
  • 1 0
@davidfregoli true, but with 160mm of travel the effective head tube angle should be dramatically slacker than a shorter travel bike.
  • 1 0
@hamncheez you're right about the enduro 29. Some riders are slacking them out more but i think it comes with a risk of blowing up your frame if you use the same shock... I think Curtis Keene was running a link that slacked his out for a while but perhaps with a shock with a shorter eye to eye.
  • 1 0
 @Dustfarter

www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/2tso4h/how_to_evo_an_enduro_29

Most the sponsored riders like Ropelato have a yoke from the 650b version that slacks it out a degree or so. I plan on doing that next spring. The only issue I've read about (on an MTBR thread) is that on medium frames there isn't enough clearance on bottom-out, so its only useful on L and XL frames.
  • 1 0
NS also has some really nice hardtail options worth looking into.
  • 1 0
 I hope it's nice.....I just ordered one
  • 6 2
SCOUT?? I bet Transition is excited that NukeProof decided to use that name!!
  • 2 0
They've already been using it a year, I think they both got announced at the same time at Eurobike so it's just coincidence.
  • 1 0
I'm sure it doesn't matter much anyway, it just reminded me of the SOLO / 5010 thing. Figured they'd end up changing it to a "SC0UT", with a zero. Not really, but it made me think.
  • 2 0
"the second strongest bar on the market from their in-house testing, taking up to 680kg's of force before failure - alloy bars generally start to fail around the 350kg mark"

Stick that in ya pipe carbon haters.
  • 1 0
2 years in and I haven't broken the carbon bars on my dh bike yet. I took them off for the first time recently and they actually don't weight anything; probably less than the mud on my shoes at the moment.
  • 2 0
I've never been afraid of carbon.. I guess I've always had two things, a certain amount of faith that they test stuff, and a healthy acceptance that aluminium has been failing, sometimes, for years. Took my Easton carbons off my dh bike and the bike I had them on got stolen. I don't eapecially miss that bike, but man was I gutted about those bars.
  • 1 0
You're right, these carbon bars are the first reliable Easton product I've owned.
  • 4 0
carbon mega would be sweet !
  • 1 0
Like many of you have said already, I'm pretty pumped that Nukeproof seams to be focused on solid, proven tech. All killer no filler. That Scout looks tits. Can I say tits here?
  • 2 1
carbon bars are one of the best upgrades to any bike, they take away vibration, and are just straight up more comfortable and smoother than alloy bars.... strength is absolutely no issue at all....
  • 1 0
Agreed on all accounts. I will never go back to an alloy bar for DH
  • 2 0
Ahh finally, dropper seat posts are more affordable and reliable! A few hundred euro for a seat post that moves is nuts, nukeproof have the right idea here ????
  • 1 0
Don't see much nukeproof products over in Canada. But I ran one of their hubs in the rear of my old bike for years zero problems. I would probably do it again if the opportunity presented itself.
  • 1 0
All nukeproof gear is available from chain reaction cycles.
  • 1 0
Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that most people over here haven't heard or seen it in their lbs so unlikely to put trust in an unknown brand.
  • 1 0
True, but perhaps that will change after seeing these pictures and reading all these positive comments. And besides that, they now have a certain Sam Hill on board, should do wonders for their profile.
  • 5 1
 I want the rook back!
  • 2 0
Nice to see Nukeproof drop the BB on the Scout 27.5 after reviewers suggested the last model was too high.
  • 3 0
if those posts are any good £165 for an internal one is a steal!
  • 3 0
I saw "nukeproof", but I thought it was Transition product at first...
  • 1 0
Nukeproof comin in hot. One of the sleekest looking aluminum downhill frames ever made IMO. And a sensibly priced dropper post? What is the world coming to?
  • 2 0
Thank god nuke proof isn't whoring themselves out to 27+ or boost! My next hardtail frame is definitely going to be a scout.
  • 2 0
Don't get me wrong i love the Nukeproof stuff but surely its rarer to see something thats not Sam Hill signature?
  • 1 0
Looking forward to seeing that Mega.. They'll always be a Mega in my garage!
  • 2 0
Seats look good! That dropper lever looks upside down
  • 2 1
Such nice clean lines and simply color schemes and then they add ugly-ass wheels.
  • 3 2
By ugly wheels I assume you mean the messy yellow ones. Agreed. Only the brazilians would find that color combination acceptable.
  • 1 0
Yes, the 'messy yellow' ones. Fugly.
  • 1 0
Probably a coincidence but their carbon rims with the Novatec hubs look like a Light Bicycle wheelset...
  • 1 0
Sam hill signature series.. Looks nice!! And decent looking bikes! With no stupid top tubes!
  • 1 0
My Commencal Meta AM hardtail has a 66 degree head angle too. As well as a lot of other aggressive hardtail trail bikes.
  • 1 0
Is it a 29er? Presuming that you're referencing the 'one of, if not the slackest' claim.
  • 1 0
True. Mine is 27.5. So yah, pretty slack for a 29er. I think Canfields Yelli Screamy is pretty close at 66.5? Looks fun though. Slack Hardtail bikes are more capable then a lot of people think. Although I am saving my pennies for a 150mm travel sull sus bike.
  • 1 0
Am I the only one who wishes the Scout was SS compatible? I'm stoked for the new Mega in November!
  • 1 0
It would have been a nice touch now you mention it. I mean, you can run any bike singlespeed, as you know, just not in the same neat, concise fashion.
  • 2 0
Carbon fiber is not new to Nukeproof... Think 90's hub shells...
  • 1 0
Scout 29er with a 66HA and 440mm chainstays... that bike's gonna have a loooong wheelbase.
  • 1 0
Did anyone else think the carbon bars were flat not round???
  • 1 0
Looks like old sunn radical dh bike !
  • 2 1
the deal on that pulse comp is amazing
