First Look: Nukeproof 2016 - Eurobike 2015
The Scout 29 is an all new machine for 2016. Nukeproof say it was designed with their clients in mind - trail riders who want to go fast! This 29" wheeled hardtail comes with a 66 degree head angle which surely makes it one, if not the slackest 29" hardtail on the market, the chainstay isn't super short at 440mm, but it is designed with speed, stability and grip in mind. There will be two models - this Pro model will come with SRAM X1 drivetrain, Guide brakes and Roam 40 wheels coated in Schwalbe tires. Retail price will be £1999
The existing 27.5" Scout has been updated slightly with a 15mm lower bottom bracket and a 66 degree head angle. There will be two models, the fluro yellow Comp has colour matched Manitou Mattoc forks and a SRAM GX 1x11 drivetrain. The cheaper Race model will be silver and black with a 2x10 Shimano drivetrain.
These Nukeproof Vector saddles are an all new, in-house design. The bases are injection moulded with a triple density foam moulded and bonded directly on top, softer foam for more sensitive parts and harder towards the outsides. The cover is then stretched on and popped into a vacuum machine, which forces the fabric between the foam and base which gives a very secure fix, no staples and a great, clean finish. There will be an AM, DH and Sam Hill Signature, multiple colour options and cro-mo or Ti rails.
The OKLO seatpost sees an upgrade to an air spring opposed to the coil found in their first foray into the dropper post market last year. An external cable version will be £135 and an internally routed option at £165.
The Horizon pedal has been spotted on Sam Hill's bike at various events this year but now they are official - not just spy shots. These large platform pedals are 12mm thick with a slight concave but have 10 height adjustable pins on each side. These Horizon Comp versions have a cro-mo axle, plastic body and hit a £40 price point.
The top of the line, Sam Hill Signature Series Horizon pedal has cro-mo axles - or titanium if you want to drop £179 on some platforms. A mid-range chromoly axle version will cost £79.99.
Carbon fibre is a new direction for Nukeproof and they are starting out with this 780mm carbon fibre mixed with fibre glass lay up. The fibre glass helps with compliance and vibration absorption and if they break you're likely to be able to ride home on them opposed to a catastrophic failure. Nukeproof say this is only a back up as they are very unlikely to break as they found them to be the second strongest bar on the market from their in-house testing, taking up to 680kg's of force before failure - alloy bars generally start to fail around the 350kg mark. No quibble, lifetime warranty just to be sure, to be sure.
Carbon wheels are also new for 2016 with downhill and all mountain versions. Complete wheelsets only to start with, in conjunction with Novatec hubs. Downhill rims will have a 29mm internal width and the all mountain will be set at 25mm internally, most modern hub options but no Boost compatibility as this isn't found on any Nukeproof bikes. Keeping in line with the brand's usual good value, retail prices will be £899 for a pair.
The Nukeproof Pulse Team is a Paypal/ChainReaction team replica bike and is their lightest downhill bike to date at 35lbs. All the same components as the team including RockShox damping, SRAM X0-1 DH, Mavic Deemax Ultimates and Schwalbe tires.
The base model Pulse Comp is competitively priced at £3000. RockShox Boxxer Team and Kage shock, e.13 chain retention, SRAM GX drivetrain and Nukeproof finishing kit.
The Sam Hill Signature series includes grips, bars, direct mount stem and frame kit.
The Sam Hill Signature frame will be available as a frame kit - expect to see the Aussie running these colours at the World Champs next week.

P.S. the new Scout looks unreal. I have last years Scout Race and I honestly could ask for a better bike for the price....it literally does everything. Perfect all day bike.
Introduced to boost (hence the name!) sales by creating incompatibility of parts, they eventually led to alienated consumers postponing bike purchases and the eventual comeback of old school, durable mountain bikes.
the sag from the rear suspension is said to make any FS ~1° slacker once you jump on them.

Most the sponsored riders like Ropelato have a yoke from the 650b version that slacks it out a degree or so. I plan on doing that next spring. The only issue I've read about (on an MTBR thread) is that on medium frames there isn't enough clearance on bottom-out, so its only useful on L and XL frames.
