Can I just say that this is the single best video Pinkbike has ever produced.
For so many reasons I cba to list, so instead I'll just say well done and thankyou
Just curious what bike and what team they race for... it's pretty easy to tell in DH for the most part but enduro is harder to tell who they are actually racing for. And a lot of European bike brands that you don't hear much about over here in the states...
10/10 would watch again! Good job to all those who competed and especially well done to the 4 kiwis in the top 10! Thanks for an awesome edit as always!
3 things.
Florian Nicolai looks amazingly quicker than everyone on camera.
J Clementz looks exceptionally shorter than I expected.
Wyn Masters looked like he had body armor on in his interview.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Best coverage of an EWS race ever! And best coverage of anything at CWX Rotorua
You're not wrong, i felt the same about Florian Nicolai on every takes of the 7 stages : quick, precis, self-assured,... but definitely perfectible with the English langage at the end !
f*cking top video, it's just fuelled my excitement for Round 3 EWS Peebles Scotland when i'll be right in amongst it, not racing but digging, taping and marshalling, love the vibe, maybe i'll race next year but think i'm too over the hill, AAAAAHHHH wish i was even 20 years younger then i wouldn't hesitate, it'll still be the mutz nutz when they churn out another banger of a video of the trails I ride, can't wait to see it, 30/31 may can't come quick enough
Good report, but I think it sucks that there's no interviews and hardly any mention of Florian Nicolai. I suppose it's because he doesn't speak any english worth mentioning, but it wouldn't be too hard to use Isabeau as a translator after the race. Without the puncture in SS 7 he would have finished second. Was he unlucky or charging too hard?
Just have to say, as a total newb to enduro racing and the EWS, this video is utterly compelling and makes me a fan right away. Can't wait for the upcoming races this season. If the purpose of video recaps like this is to grow the fan base, consider it a smashing success!
Holy F@ck only one comment about Sam Hill in flat pedals coming in 10th overall in the first round of the EWS? He's going to be damn dangerous during WC!!!!
Really good round-up of the event, hopefully you can do one of these for every round. Good mixture of action, background and rider profile...great job!
I'm asking where is Cedric? Where is any informations about him or special interview with him? Maybe he is not in top 10 even in top 50 but for sure he is in top 3 OUR FAVOURITE RIDERS! Is he? I postulate special episode with CEDRIC!!!
That was some solid mountain biking. And Anne Caro, daemm, what an aggro style. Anyone having some gender issues, I can't tell the difference between her riding and that of the guys - I am in love!
excellent vid thanks. Top level enduro just looks like so much fun - You'd be hard pressed to have more enjoyable full day on your bike than that. Nice to see Flanagan enjoying a plum.
Great vid, Rotorua spot is beautiful, impressive trails (I've been there twice some years ago but without bike!) nice Kiwi vibe, one-day format seems to be the way to go. btw 3 Frenchs and 2 NZ on the top 5, that's what they call biculturalism?.. no, that's in Canadian Rugby..
With all those shots of that one Yeti rider, I was expecting an interview. Maybe he didn't want to talk to Pinkbike after the SB6 review - either way, seems pretty Rude if you ask me.
Shame there was no mention of the woman in the masters category who lost her seat on the first stage (her husband didn't tighten the bolts enough, apparently - always blame the mechanic!) and did the next ~50km with a t-shirt wrapped around her seatpost!
Awesome stuff. Jerome, Fabien and Wyn all seem like really great guys. Big thanks to Fabien too for his old technique videos, they improved my riding for sure.
The only thing better than making it to day 5, being totally exhausted, a bit battered and bruised, is having a guy in a tree screaming in your face with a bullhorn when you ride by...
Editor in chief no less.
Great programme and loads of great comments well deserved.
Really looking forward to the next round.
As the EWS progress the coverage has followed suit.
LIVE TO RIDE
Great roundup video, when you miss the live coverage you don't want to be watching it all back and this sums up the action perfectly. Thanks guys, great job and keep it up for the year ahead
they were able to switch during the liason stage where they are bused shuttled to stage 7 at MT Nongataha which was on the other side of town from the Whaka forest, so refresh mechanical repairs what ever grab a full face and hit the DH to finish.
It's cool that Jerome wants to see Grubby back in action! That's a competitor. Graves is a beast! And Richie - stay upright on the next one bud! You too Cedric.
It's below on the page as it was downvoted. I agree it's civilized and a worthy, people just didn't agree with the statement. Mods don't touch comments in here unless their grossly offensive, it's people moderated.
Neg prop me all you want, but I just can't get into watching enduro races. It just lacks, the flow, suspense, and speed of DH event coverage. I love to race in them, but some things just aren't suited for spectating
i dont mind it, but it definitely is not even close to watching DH. For me its always a let down at the end - no exciting finish, usually noone even knows who has won. When watching I alway feel like Im just watching a local race, mabe thats a positive in a way?
I think there's a good chance it won't - dh will always be a better spectator sport, and have better coverage. I think of it as the f1 part of the sport. Enduro will just form a different category. We notice it more now as its growing
@russthedog, can't agree more. You're watching the greatest bikers of the world compete in a world series and yet you get the very same vibe you can feel at a local race. I hope enduro will never lose this.
Keep in mind enduro is pretty fresh as a discipline, not to mention live video coverage of it- lots to get the head around, logistics, etc. Who wouldn't want to watch 7 downhill races in a row, in one day?
Justgiveme...the only additional thing I would say here is honestly a lot if the time I can't tell they're great riders. Fast yes, amazing??? When I watch dh it is very obvious how awesome they are. And I do believe the dh guys are the best riders in the world.
the event is not too long ago :-)
Maybe he is not in top 10 even in top 50 but for sure he is in top 3 OUR FAVOURITE RIDERS! Is he?
I postulate special episode with CEDRIC!!!
one of the new french wave ! that's for sure
Team Specialized.
