This year the Pan-American Championship takes place in Cota, Cundinamarca, about 45 minutes from Bogota, Colombia's capital city. With many riders from the whole continent, the race is set-up to be a great spectacle. Local riders such as Marcelo Gutierrez from Giant-OffRoad-Team, hope to take the win this year on home terrain.

Although not as long as a WC course, no rider has complained about it. Plenty of roots, dust and jumps make up for a great race with the best riders from across the America's.

But his younger brother, Rafa looks fast and is confident enough to challenge his brother.

Neko doesn't seem to be all too stressed.

Deep brake bumps, dusty turns and technical drops basically define this years course

Last day of practice was rough on the riders as well as the bikes. The track changed a lot during the day because there's no way to compact the soil so deep ruts were made and lines changed constantly. Because of this. many riders were left with minor injuries such as broken collarbones and fingers, but some were strong enough to keep riding despite a broken thumb, which is the case of Quidio rider Johnny Betancourth.

Riders bomb the track for the final free practice before finals.

The ones to look for in the elite category are, defending champion Marcelo Gutierrez, Bernardo Cruz from Brazil, Neko Mulally from USA among others.

Come on just a few pics.. That's why the sport doesn't progress in our countries. They should promote a lot more this event. You guys from Europe and North America can't even imagine how much this event really mean to us. I there was cranworks at the same time but we are talking about a continental event with the best riders from each country. People from Europe got everything a lot easier they just have to focus on the competition because they're good sponsored, besides riders from South America have to spend a lot more money that they don't have to at least go to a national event. I hope companies really think about it and start looking at Hispanic riders like javier Lopez Ruiz n Lorena Dromundo from Mexico guys from chile, Brazil, and Colombia are doing a great joc as well.

I don't see a detailed, nicely written, researched and well photographed article from yourself covering these points you're raising? Maybe try being thankful someone took the time to write this up? 5 years ago most people wouldn't even know there was a pan-American championship.

I undertand why @lalientoxc complains, here in latin america we have a lac of promotion of the sport, but we can´t fight against the media, we have to push and ask to the people who organize the event instead, because in many cases they don´t get the information to the media, I shou quote "many cases" because if we look events like RedBull Cerro Abajo we realized that it have a lot of media coveraje, the same to the Andes Pacifico... maybe we have to ask to the chileans how they do.

brazilian riders were left there without any support!
We´ve received a lot of complains about it and nothing was done to they.
at least, some riders. as Bernardo Cruz. stands out and had the chance to try it by themselves.

I used to run a website for the sport...and I did all humanly possible to cover the sport, I even manage to stream live one of the national cups here in our country, but the lack of support is just impossible to cover races, just to cover local races I spend out of my own pocket lot of money, and support does not come easy, or in my case, did not came at all....i did not shut it off, but definitely can't afford to continue to move to all these places to cover everything and organizers are making money but the media, the one that do cares for the sport is left aside...it was a pretty decent website, avg visitor monthly was above the 100k...but not even with that...could make anything to support the website... We, along with a XC focused website, created a TV show, the show still on air but is because my friend on the XC side do get a lot of help...no so much on this side of the sport...

Shame this was put on the front page so late on... Neko Mullaly took the win, followed by Guvi, and props to the Mexicans for coming home with a good few medals, including a couple of golds!
