Pro Podium The Clan 1st and 3rd
It was dry, dusty, drifty, loose, wet, muddy, yucky, gross, sliding, high speed, messy laundry filled, brush and washer good fun of a race. The weather over the weekend was absolutely brilliant, too bad someone forgot to remind the mountain and it’s continuous source of spring water for our wonderful race track. Yep that’s right, despite the 20+C degrees and beautiful sunshine the track got pretty knarley because of the running water on the lower portion of the track. Now I'm not complaining what so ever…it was such a good track, such a mix of everything you’d ever want on a track…Ok, maybe a few Big booters here or there would be a nice touch to things, but hey this was pretty damn good.

The track history is an interesting one. Insanity is the Trail that was originally built back in Circa 97 or 98 by TJ Neault. This track was used for the infamous “Mad trapper” race for years until '06, when the decision was made to switch the course to a little less knar for the sake of increasing rider numbers. Well for 2009 Insanity was back on the menu and with it too was the largest contingent for racers the Mad trapper race has ever scene with 230+ riders pinning to win.
The Clan came, we rode, we switched out tires / brakes / springs and even some dampener changes all in hopes of getting the elusive win. Thanks to Buckwheat our awesome mechanic, the 4 of us were well taken care off in preparation for our race runs.
When the Mud and dust settled Sunday afternoon The Clan’s very own Tyler Gnitt took top honors in Pro / Elite category, thus snagging the Clan’s first ever Race ‘win’. I managed to sneak off with the 3rd place behind Transcend / Orange rider Jamie Biluk. Dan Skogland from Cove Bikes was real close in 4th, as well as Commencal / Oakley rider Alex Pro rounding out the Pro Podium.
Bryson threw down a smooth run which snagged him 7th, while Brett Hornfelt, pinning for the win went down in the rock garden + double flatted, so the luck of racing got the best of him this time. Got love, but hate racing sometimes eh!
So that’s it. Mad Trapper 2009 down and over with. Massive props go out to Calgary Cycle and up and coming superstar shredder Luke Stevens. Luke races in the U17 category, but is only 15. His incredible riding ended up getting him the fastest time of the day and thus would have won the Pro Class field. Damn, 15 and killing it! Look out World Cup, watch for Luke in years to come…we might have another Stevie Smith in the works for Canadian racers.
