We began the story of the Peak to Creek trail 12 weeks ago with Matt, Mike and Bill stomping around in the heart of the Kootenays with high alpine dreams. Today those dreams are realized, as riders Geoff Gulevich and Jesse Melamed heli to the top of Reco Peak at over 2500m (8350') and drop in making the 15km (over 9 miles) decent down the freshly forged trail.

With the bottom half of the trail nearly complete, the build crew knocks out some woodwork before heading to the high alpine. Once above the tree line they make the transition from stump pulling and bridge building to more straightforward benching...a lot of benching. Watch the dirt fly and the trail sections begin to connect as the crew nears the completion of the Peak to Creek trail.

As the snow melts and the scouting concludes, out come the chaps and chainsaws as the crew begins to bring the Peak to Creek trail into reality. Watch as Matt, Brian and Mike clear the corridor to prepare for the full build crew to come up and start throwing dirt.

POV of me and a bud: www.pinkbike.com/video/382686

We were lucky enough to stumble into riding this trail on our Retallack trip in Sept. They're not kidding when they say there's not enough adjectives to describe it and the trail network keeps growing. Worth every penny.

 no dig,no ride

i sort of agree with this but i think it's better said as "No contribute, no ride." Lots of people out there have other commitments (work, school, kids, etc) that don't allow them to get out and do regular trail work. But that doesn't mean they can't contribute through donations, advocacy, etc and it also doesn't mean that their contributions are worthless. It would be great if everyone could get out and dig every thursday night and saturday morning but that is not a reality. What is a reality is everyone should contribute in SOME way.

And thats why the mountain bike community kicks ass, always looking for a project, appreciative of each other and natures surrroundings. I need to head to Canada soon hey! First find that cash!

Awesome series! Is a heli the only way to the top?
sounds like it could be pricey, but must be worth every bit though
  • 2 0
They've got an enduro race this summer there, could be part of the same trail ?!
  • 2 2
You got legs, don't ya? Wink

I'm guessing its quite the ways up to the top and there aint a shuttle road so I guess it depends on how ambitious you're feeling.

There's a shuttle road to the sub alpine... All time zone.
  • 6 0
Heli is the quickest way that's for sure! You can shuttle to just below the beginning of the bench cut and then hike up to the peak from there to earn your descent.

What could it cost to charter a helicopter of their own to top of their mountain and ride down. Couple hundred bucks per trip maybe? It has to be in the relative range of affordable or else why did they build it. I paid 200 to fly around the grand canyon for an hour. I'd pay double that to ride down that thing.

^ If you share it with multiple people, its not bad at all for a once-in-a-lifetime kinda deal. I was lucky enough to go with a group where we were dropped off at the top of Rainbow Mountain across the way from Whistler. It took a few hours to get down and was well worth it. The heli ride is sick in itself (although scary haha).

Well.. you could make it a day hike/ride expierience.. since about 15 kilometers is an achievable goal... and the reward is even bigger... but of course you get more riding out of the heli, that´s for sure.. and maby a bit more fun
  • 1 0
^That sounds like a ton of fun. Yeah I would totally want to put something like this on my bucket list.

 Wow Jesse held his own!!!

Well done! Nice meeting all you mthfkrs!
What will be your purpose next summer...maybe just ridding! And hopefully enough supplies to get thru...right, Keeling over?! I will bring more!

 Soooo...who has a Heli I can borrow?
  • 2 0
So do you have to stay and do the guided tour ($1600/3 Days) to ride this trail and the others trails around Retallack Lodge. If not then how do you get the start of this epic trail (Ridge)?

Great series but i was specting to see the builders actually riding the whole trail in the final video.
