I like Dylan Sheffer because he's a no bullshit kind of guy: hard-working, original, and humble about his accomplishments. When Dylan and Scott took me to Dylan's trail, I was in awe of what Dylan had created. It looked like an amusement park in the woods. Everything was milled to perfection, and it just went on and on for what seemed like a kilometre. I can't even fathom the time and effort that went into his trail. When it was time to shoot, Dylan systematically and confidently ticked off each feature one after the other. I don't think he crashed once, or even slipped a pedal for that matter. The man is on another level than anyone else, because he's built something so detached from the norm that I can't even compare him to any other rider, and I like that. Margus Riga |
I actually knew of Dylan's builds before I ever met him. A friend of mine sent me a Facebook photo of a gargantuan ladder bridge stepdown and I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of it. ''Who is this mad scientist?'' I thought to myself. Turns out Sheffer is one of the most dedicated and progressive trail builders in the entire world, a blue collar badass, heavily influenced by the likes of Riley McIntosh, Dangerous Dan, and Digger; he's a new torch bearer for the spirit of freeride. Honestly, I'm just glad there's someone keeping the art of skinnies alive. Scott Secco |
I seem to have a never ending vault of ideas for stunts and sections of trail that I want to build. Somestime walking through untouched forest and terrain it's hard to envision these lines and the best route down when all that lays before you in is a forest floor covered in deadfall and multiple water crossings. When I stumbled upon this zone everything seemed to click and I pretty much had over 70% of what I wanted mapped out with a clear idea of where it would all go in the first initial scope. 500 hours later and here we are. It's pretty amazing to see it all come together over the course of a year. It's been a long haul and a lot of work but I enjoyed every minute of it. To me there is no better way to get away from everyday life and work than to rip up the mountain on the dirt bike, fire up the chainsaw, throw tools to the ground, and make your dream line a reality. Riding this trail has been the most fun I have had on a bike and I am fortunate to have been able to document it through video with Scott Secco and photos by Margus Riga. Dylan Sheffer |
