Pinkbike.com announced today the launch of its large-format print publication Pinkbike Magazine.
Pinkbike, a grassroots based website that exploded into a mountain bike powerhouse on the heels of the freeride revolution, will launch a monthly print magazine that will hit newsstands June 2011. Pinkbike Magazine, a glossy, large-format publication will deliver the spectacular imagery, insightful technical analysis and on-location reporting that made Pinkbike.com the world’s preeminent source of information and media for the sport’s most influential riders.
“Pinkbike Magazine speaks to a new generation of riders who, like it or not, have been the creative, driving force of mountain biking for over a decade,” says Pinkbike Publisher Julian Coffey. “These people have been largely ignored by existing print media, and our new mag will be a big wake-up call.”
“We blew up with new-school riders, and now we’re a fiercely-interactive community,” says Karl Burkat. “Pinkbike Magazine is a showcase for athletes who push the envelope in all categories, and a portal through which the cycling world will experience mountain biking at its highest level.”
Brandon Semenuk: "Stoked to kick off the first official PB mag with one of my favorite shots I got in 2010. Excited for the new mag and to produce more like this in 2011"
Pinkbike Magazine will deliver an unparalleled visual experience. Directed by Photo Editor Ian Hylands and renowned location photographer Sterling Lorence, readers will feast on large-format images, vividly reproduced on high-quality glossy pages. Visit a location photographed on Pinkbike Magazine’s pages, and you’ll feel as if you’ve already been there.
“Pinkbike has an immense image library with over 6 million photos." says Photo Editor Ian Hylands. "So each image we choose for Pinkbike magazine represents the best of the best. To reproduce them in a standard-format magazine would be a disservice to the artist - and our readers."
Sterling Lorence added: “I of course love seeing my photos in print. I’m stoked anytime someone is willing to put ink to paper – it puts a big smile on my face!”
Pinkbike Magazine assures that its tech editorial will not be affected by advertising - all technical articles will be spearheaded by Tech editor Mike Levy. Levy weighs in: “We test every product and report the results as if we were speaking with trusted friends—because we are.”
Pinkbike Magazine will be available in 12 languages and distributed globally – a model that will keep costs reasonable and circulation numbers high.

Hoping it's for real, cause I'd buy it.
If not, it's a pretty classy April Fools joke.
il passé poisson d'avril sais, c'est donc ce imbéciles réel ou en avril? venir sur les haricots déversement pb comme on dit,
mae'n ffyliaid Ebrill gorffennol yn gwybod felly mae hwn yn ffyliaid go iawn neu Ebrill? dod ar gorlif pb y ffa fel y maent yn ei ddweud,
Nonetheless, there aren't too many good mag out there. To me, there is only MBA and BIKE. Decline &^%$#%^ SUCKS. so if it isn't an April fools joke, i'll think you'll do well. BUT how will it be different from your site?
ps: love that pic of Semenuk. good call on the cover
Also, your crop marks in your InDesign template are wrong - there are no bleeds on your images/pages. I would not want to be the person operating the cutting machine when this gets printed
Whilst paper magazines can never compete with the internet with the speed of publication, this isn't necessarily all bad. Magazines are given the time they need so that they have the soul and quality of journalism that pinkbike and other sites have never quite been able to match. That's not to say that pinkbike doesn't have it's place too; it's unparralled for finding out the latest riding news, but I'd much rather actually sit down and read a mag. Plus it's pretty hard to read pinkbike on the toilet with a desktop...
it's a shame this is April fools, it would be awesome to have such a magazine!
I love how these comments turn into which country is better. What does it matter, I am a citizen of planet Earth.
If its just bad timing for an advert chalk me up for ten issues.
If it's not a joke then it's sick.
April fools are supposed to be a joke, not something people actually want...
how come they didnt do this earlier!?!?! :S
"I did it again, I'm the biggest fool on here. You're all brain surgeons compared to me today." Capitals, comma, full stop to separate sentences & you're, not your... just in case anyone actually cares.
: )
Too obvious!! :-P
As for paying for pics/content, that's old and played, but keep it up as someone likes to hear negativity somewhere.
scamming us of $20 as well!
"To add to the realism, we created a special form to take subscriptions. The form was non-functional and didn't actually record any information, so we don't know how many subscriptions were generated. No credit cards were charged, however many users from around the world emailed asking about more details, and why their order hadn't been processed! "
I can't believe how many people waste there time trying to "fool" everyone.
This is one tradition I wish would just go away.
