Post Office Jumps - Build Update

Mar 30, 2011
by Davin Pena
The season is getting into gear and it's time to go out and give your local DJ's a little love. Check out a little preview of the boys getting the Post Office Jumps back into shape for some epic sessioning in 2011!For the past week or so, local and non local riders have come out to Post Office Jumps to maintain and change a few things around, as well as get them buffed for the upcoming Santa Cruz MTB Festival that is going down on April 9th and 10th. The jumps are getting some much needed love and everything will be dialed for the riders. Check out the photos below to see what's been going down!

Things are still a bit wet at the Post Office, but it is starting to look good again. Nothing some shovel work with some good friends can't fix!
photo
Now this is what I'm talking about! This landing is nearly ready for action.
photo
The weather has been less than kind to the jumps lately, with some lakes popping up here and there. We've been using a pump to drain them - much faster than buckets.
photo
Some teamwork brings this landing back to life.
photo
Is trail building a union job? It's good to get everyone's opinion as work is getting done.
photo
Even though it has been wet lately, a bit of water makes the work much easier. Guy giving the dirt a drink.
photo
The old wood booter was looking a bit worse for wear, but they soon realized that it would make a fun wallride as well when tipped on it's side. Recycling at the jumps!
photo
An old broken ramp is all it takes to get Guy to play.
photo
Howey follows Guy with a tuck no-hander. Who says you need big and fresh jumps to have some fun?
photo
Not one to sit and watch, Cob joins in on the ghetto-ramp party.
photo
Heads up! It is always important to be aware of flying hand tools while working at the jumps... you never know when a flying pick is going to come out of nowhere!

Spring is here and it is time to give your local trails some much needed attention - have you been out with the shovel yet?

What did happen with the rumor that the PO jump site was being sold and leveled?
Glad to see them keeping it alive!

you might be thinking of cobb's jumps.
  • 9 0
Nope, it was definitely the post office people are thinking of, last sea otter they made a big deal about it, saying that it would be the last PO jam ever or something so the post office could have a parking lot or something...not sure what the reason was...But either way, It's always great to see a jump spot survive!
  • 1 0
i've heard that rumor for the last 3 years, but looks like they are still at it
  • 2 0
Yea they been saying that for a while,,, looks like this next events gonna be the last at post... It's sad to see such a legendary spot go, but there stoked at the same time to start building a new trail

Been building all winter, and now just found out that some kids have been hacking away at the jumps with a spade, just when I wanted to ride!
  • 17 0
I hate those kinds of kids! Just because they can't jump, jumps 3x the size they are doesn't give them the right to tear out hard work down! If they want a little jump to roll over then they should break their back making their own jumps. Am I right?

 your right Smile

 Thank you. (:

i feel your pain, some less experienced riders have moved a ladder drop to make a 1ft jump out of.... im all for sharing but that takes the piss
  • 1 0
Exactly, it's not like they don't have anywhere else to build, they just don't want to put the effort in and end up ruining it for the rest of us.
  • 2 1
We should start a facebook page about this and then the little kids would know that we're pissed, cause it would be facebook official....
  • 1 0
maybe.... probably too arrogant to notice it's actually them doing it tho... i may just be stereotyping them but its usually those kinds of people.
  • 1 0
It's probably easier to just build a smaller line for them to ride, this way they'll respect you and the rest of your trails. Trust me it's frustrating as hell but it's definitely better then continually rebuilding your shit. That's what we did at our trails, now I know all the little kids and they know not to fuck with the trails.
  • 1 0
True, i should probably do that.
  • 1 0
ahh right, good way of looking at it. problem is i hardly ever see people riding up at my trails... just find the stuff magically moving about, haha.

Why would they need to level the PO jumps to build a boring old parking lot? LOL its called EMAIL people learn how to use it and leave the jumps alone!!

It's snowing zebras and hyenas where I am, so I could go shovel some of it, I suppose. I...am tired of winter.
  • 1 0
F**k my life. Here in Quebec we still have over 2 feet of snow MINIMUM!
  • 1 0
thats your punishment for having mountains!
  • 1 0
The trade-0ff is harsh. There will be snow until end of may on Bromont and St-Anne... Also, with the amount of snow we had this year, the ground is going to be really humid for a long time...
