Prologo Nack Evo X15 Saddle

Prologo Nago Evo X15 Saddle

Prologo is a big name in road cycling, being an integral part of many of the major Tour teams. I'm not a road bike fan, so thankfully for us mountain bikers they now have a saddle designed for enduro racing. How do we know of its specificity? The name is in the title, of course, with X meaning 'Offoad' and 15 relating to the bike's wheel travel of 150mm. There are also X8 and X10 models of saddles which are suited to the kind of riding you would encounter on 80/100mm travel bikes. Prologo say the X15 has a half-round shape and better support for forward hip rotation and encompasses features learned from their road saddles. The X15 is 280mm long by 135mm wide to match your out of date rear hub. The 'Nack' carbon railed version we tested weighs in at 208grams, and the base is made using a carbon-fibre injection mould with a Microfibre and CPC (Connect Power Control) covering. The CPC is the where the technology is hidden (probably most of the expense too) in the thousands of tiny 'volcanoes', these little hollow rubber shapes could change your life according to Prologo, "The CPC system uses the kinetic power produced by the athlete to stimulate blood flow and eliminate tingling or numbness." They will also help you stick to your saddle by creating a vacuum effect to suck you down on to the seat; finally the CPC, "protects muscles, tendons and soft tissue stress, shock, vibration and oscillation that results from continuous pedalling, this reduces muscle fatigue, improving recovery time after riding" and, "it can improve airflow in that precious area." Wow! That's a lot of technology from tiny rubberised volcanoes. You can choose from black with red accents, or white with black and red. MSRP $302 USD / €249 Euros www.prologotouch.com

The CPC system uses hollow rubber 'volcanoes' to provide additional grip, and according to Prologo, helps protects muscles and tendons from excess shock and vibration created by pedaling.

Pinkbike's Take:

bigquotesWell, to start with lets get that $302 price tag out of the way. For a saddle it's a lot of money, nearly as much as a hydraulic dropper post might set you back. But, if you have an 'Enduro Specific' frame, wheels, bars, spokes and training program, then why perch yourself on something designed for another purpose? Many people don't blink at a $4,000 frame so why should a top-of-the-range saddle be any different? The construction is of the highest quality and its injection-moulded, lightweight construction will match the optimised carbon layup in your downtube. Prologo offer a fitting service called MyOwn, and if you visit your local dealer, they will input the measurements of your ischial bones (ass-bones), lumbar flexibility, body mass index, riding style and price bracket in to a computer, after-which, out will pop the recommended saddle for you. I found the X15 really comfortable, it suited my derriere perfectly, and has been swapped onto most of my recent bikes. The CPC system does grip the crotch, even when it gets muddy, which helps prevent the slipping and sliding that can occur during seated pedaling. Through a pair of under-shorts and some thick winter mtb shorts, I couldn't feel any other benefits from this wonder material - like improved blood flow, better recovery or less tension on my tendons, but the post-purchase lighter wallet should relieve some lower back strain on a long enduro day. - Paul Aston

"Many people don't blink at a $4,000 frame"
If you are one of these people please state so, that way I know this statement is true thanks appreciate it
  • 70 0
I don't blink, but that's because I have accepted that I simply cannot afford one.
  • 7 2
it's our fault on not able to blink on a $4,000 frame.
  • 58 0
I start to blink waaaayyy below $4000
  • 160 2
I can't blink; sold my eyelids to buy this seat.
  • 13 2
the science sounds pretty dubious try Specialized with their Body Geometry saddles - 30 years of development by medical doctors with 1000's of medical bike fits for amateur and professional athletes. I don't work for Specialized, but always use their saddles on my mountain and road bikes.
  • 1 0
The reviewer has one of these on his recent bikes? Is that $300 spent or $900 spent on saddles? That's rich.
  • 5 1
 I understood it as sarcasm...Am I wrong?
  • 4 0
His last line would suggest so.
  • 1 0
 @src248 hahahahaha oh thankyou

I would blink, but my eyelids were included in the payment for my last saddle.

 Dammit @scr248, ya beat me!

I blink blink blink blink blink

I consider bikes my main hobby / Passion in life. I watch some of my friends spend money on cars as a hobby, and I can say that even my most expensive bike purchases are a small % of what they spend on their hobby. Do I own any $300 saddles... No... but I am willing to spend quite a bit on the things in life that I love the most.
  • 6 1
He got free ones for the positive review
  • 2 0
I call $2500 as the max I;ll pay for any frame
  • 2 0
 I wouldn't blink, just faint!

The thinly-veiled sarcasm of this review is delightful.

"The X15 is 280mm long by 135mm wide to match your out of date rear hub"
lol, I love articles that try to make people feel like they need to upgrade. Changing your hub to the new 142mm standard means a new bike.
  • 3 0
Not necessarily. A little heat, threaded rod, and a few nuts and BAM! 142mm rear spacing for free!
  • 1 0
Really? I've got a couple bikes I'd love to be 142, care to elaborate?
  • 1 0
Depends, do you still have a warranty on your frame? If so, do you like having a warranty on your frame?
  • 1 0
Its an older frame, no warranty. I would ride it more if wasn't scared of the pencil-thin axles it has

"I would ride it more if wasn't scared of the pencil-thin axles it has"
No article needed.

What a gripping article. Had me on the edge of my seat.
  • 6 1
did it grab you by the seat of your pants and take you for a ride?
  • 11 1
I had to take a seat when I saw the price...
  • 2 0
Now this saddles my dilemma about expensive frames and low budget seats!
  • 3 1
In-ischially I thought this article was serious. By the end I just knew it was just someone making a crack.
  • 6 0
Saddle up everyone... here comes one of those pun threads that rails on and on...
  • 19 0
I am in awe of the reviewer's ability to keep it relatively deadpan there. Nicely done. They probably will make an upgrade available that has a vibrator built in, electronically controlled from your DI2 remote... So enduro...
  • 5 0
Heard specialized is already making a $4500 carbon frame that has stealth mounts for that upgrade. Its even gonna be set up to run 675b wheels! The all around strength and agility of a 650b wheel, with the rolling and climbing ability of a 29"er!
  • 21 0
300$ for a seat that grips your crotch........are you guys trying to make me laugh
  • 16 0
I know other things that grip your crotch and they're a lot cheaper. Oh, well...
  • 3 0
Agreed! WTB has a New Enduro seat and I'd bet it's better. And it doesn't have velcro scuffing my taint.
  • 19 3
I don't think it's stupid because of the price, it's stupid because it goes UP into your taint instead of having a channel like a sensible saddle for a male is designed.
  • 7 1
I have the most ridiculous looking saddles on all of my bikes: ISM Adamos. I will never ride anything else ever again. They work. They look like two pronged f*ckin torture racks but my balls and dick love me for it. Plus they are beyond comfortable. They are extremely pricey at upwards of $200USD (for some models) but there are so many in the market place that used ones are easy to come by for much less $.

A stressful day at work at pinkbike is when you're called into the editors office and he tells you, "sorry dude, you drew the shortest straw; you're up for the next review we're 'obligated' to run and you're going to hate the hell out of it. It's a $300 road saddle marketed for mountain use. Good luck and godspeed. If we lose the prologo 'account' because of it, I will understand. jsut do your best to sound credible. This ones a mutherf*cker."

Doesn't Rapha do mountain bike apparel yet? Soon I hope.
  • 19 1
 Fuck that seat.
  • 30 0
Thats not the intended purpose. Might void the warranty.
  • 4 0
the "vacuum suction" might let you do exactly that
  • 1 0
ive never fucked a seat .vacuum suctioned or not .had my fair share of pigs mind !!!!!
  • 2 0
 Figuratively, fuck that seat.
  • 1 0
rgr dude ,I have figuratively had my fair share of pigs also !!!
  • 2 1
Its a top of the line saddle. its bound to be expensive as if we never got used to how they price their items. sooner or later it'll go down anyway.

the price does not concern me at all but the tech behind and the "promises" prologo says it offers, if they really do what it claims to be then good for prologo and whoever buys this saddle.
  • 1 0
Thing is, we were looking at other really high priced saddles and this isn't even at the top! $500 anyone?
  • 1 1
Not to say that Specialized is better, but I would get a Body Gemetry saddle long before getting this. $180-$225 before tax, carbon rails, and actually does what they say it will do.
  • 3 1
I'd take the seat over those Avids though...
  • 2 0
Charge (or FABRIC now) scoop: $55. I like mine.
  • 4 0
A Bell 2R helmet or this saddle... hmm... If I had $300 to spend, what would I prefer to protect? Depends what I'm thinking with that day Smile
  • 4 0
 1 x $300 hookerbot, or 300 x $1 hookerbots?
  • 2 0
Got my Charge Scoop seats for $65 ea, with Titanium rails that weigh the same as a WTB Rocket V Ti.

I can saddle up 5 bikes for the price of one of these...
  • 11 0
Looks like you could velcro your cock down...might give it a whirl...
  • 12 2
What a load of absolute pish
  • 5 0
Seriously!!! I have a old BeOne ti saddle that weighs the same and it cost me ~€35 at the time. I've heard some BS in my time but this saddle is 150mm specific... REALLY? At least the reviewer came to the same conclusion and decided to be sarcastic...
  • 2 0
Do they sell 0.0005mm time trial-specific leg shavers too?.

Holy shit!!!! what if my helmet isn't just right for this next 1k stretch of trail? what if my stem be 5mm too long or too short? might my water bottle be 5 ml too large?

Oh the humanity!
  • 7 0
When I reached the "travel specific" part of the text I thought I was reading another wakileaks article. This has been the worst enduro-specific reality hit.

At $302, I want it to cure my hemorrhoids while I ride

The mtb industry is well aware that someone somewhere will be gullible enough to buy this, it fits in with latest-must-have trend that'll make you feel like you going faster. Literally a confidence trick, it would be offensive if it wasn't so ridiculous.
  • 4 0
Haha a 150mm travel bike saddle, that is WORSE than the high tail saddle specific to 650B.... saddles are built for your butt so pick one that works and don't be a dick about it!!!! ha
  • 4 1
 Hi pink bike.
Judging by the comments I read about the saddle maybe you need to mix it up a bit.
I understand about testing top end gear and the tech does filter down over a few years but maybe test some items a bit above the average joe would spend, Not heaps.
Maybe a great $150 saddle.
Just my two cents.
Ride on.
  • 3 0
And miss out on a free $300 saddle...
  • 3 0
Good point. We can't miss out if top end free stuff. I'll give you some next time I get two.
  • 2 0
Dang. Now we all have to buy this saddle. Considering it is mandatory I wish they has kept the price down. They custom make it to fit your ass. Rolls Royce doesn't do that. This is obviously a high end piece of work so yeah, it costs a lot. Jeeze.
  • 2 0
I think the saddle needs more testing...I'll have to test extensively to verify their claims before buying of course. Then, I may be interested in last year's steeply discounted demo model. I think $40, what I paid for my last seat, would be fair.
  • 2 0
you buy last year's 140mm-specific saddle for your 150mm ride, good luck Smile
  • 1 0
It won't work anyway, I'm not enduroing.
  • 3 0
"I'm not a road bike fan, so thankfully for us mountain bikers "
Reminds me of Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore
"I am a hockey player,I am here to play golf but I am really a hockey player.." Smile
  • 6 0
well that's me out - I only have 140mm travel Frown
  • 2 0
there are a surprising number of aged 30 to 40+ upper middle income riders that really like shopping for random expensive carbon shit....I bet Pro Logo has a hit here.... and that saddles (that used to be $30 and are now $80) willstart to regularly sell for $200.... ahhhh marketing genius crushing the little man...
  • 1 0
 Just get this: www.anvlcomponents.com/2015/Product_Saddle-ForgeTi.cfm?Token={ts_2014-12-01_02:43:00}-66aa092c5da09791-322BC3CC-A704-B55C-A63EFF97CBAF684F

Best saddle ever made, and amazing weight to price ratio. My Ti version came under at 188g
  • 1 0
They lost me at "hand sculpted custom shape". Are they also handcrafted in small batches? I need less bullshit in my life, not more!
  • 3 0
I would love to see this pink bike poll: "how much money did you spend on your last bike?
  • 3 0
With a sub question: "How much do you tell people you spent on your bike" Wink
  • 2 2
"Prologo offer a fitting service called MyOwn, and if you visit your local dealer, they will input the measurements of your ischial bones (ass-bones), lumbar flexibility, body mass index, riding style and price bracket in to a computer" ....and share it with their family, friends and the wider mtb community. Thanks, but no thanks. Only lonely men with no internet connection should apply.
  • 5 1
Looks like a normal seat with some velcro stuck on it...
  • 4 0
Seats that are specific to wheel travel? Get the f@ck. Out of here..
  • 2 0
Next are the specific 26", 27,5", 29" saddles...
  • 4 0
We have officially reached ludicrous speed!

All I am seeing here is a very expensive ball scratching device for when me jewels get soggy. I am sure it will work for some but personally I would rather spend my money on a good bib or a massive fry up
  • 1 1
All you's complaining about the price... shop around for selle Italia and then you can piss and moan... Hell. , even Loaded's seat is more pricey. As far as Wtb goes, anything below 200 grams is crazy expensive too... but my Silverado carbon looks SO hot!
  • 6 4
300$ for a saddle for a sport that your standing up most of the time *Clap Clap Clap* (I ride DH btw)
  • 3 0
 No thanks, wtb works well
  • 2 0
I love how Pinkbike always tries to justify the high price of their reviewed products. Come on you guys!
  • 3 0
i thought seats were designed for your arse, not for 150mm travel bikes.
  • 3 0
Never in my days have I found a comfortable saddle
  • 2 0
Ah, but have you measured your ass bones for microscopic volcanoes? Ah? Ahhh??? Ahhhhhh....
  • 1 0
You may very well have looked around - but the WTB Bel Air is a real good place to start. Never heard anyone complain about it, and it's still my top saddle having had a few others since my last BA.
  • 2 0
Do I need an enduro specific ass to ride this??? and what if the volcanoes explode while seating!!!!
  • 3 1
Hehehe, ass-bones. I don't know why that's so funny but it is.
  • 4 2
 What's next? Enduro specific grips?
  • 5 0
 Evil exists:

"The Ergon GE1 is specially developed for Enduro mountain biking. Handlebars are wide, and gripped right at the end, while the riders elbows are kept bent. This position dictates the construction of the grip, and in turn the grip itself is able to prevent typical issues of tension in the arm and hand. With two rubber compounds, there are textured zones orientated against the direction of rotation of the hand. The grip also takes advantage of a lightweight high quality aluminium clamp, securing the damping optimised inner core and the whole grip. Everything optimised for the intended use."

Btw: In Germany saddle´s about €110...
  • 1 0
Sorry, price is for the Tirox-Version...
  • 2 1
So saddle now are like the sanitary napkin to mountain bikers. Specific usage, wide, wing, overflow?
  • 2 1
$162 at Chain Reaction so maybe we will only have 1/2 as many asinine responses.
  • 2 1
I liked the ass bone comment. Now I'm gong to walk around and offer to show my ass....bones to people.
  • 1 0
Hahaha sounds like I can get a hand job while riding my bike now!! at a $162 at CRC that's cheap for a HJ!!

 WTB Volt $35, thank you
