I'm stoked to announce that Pumped BMX 2 is dropping today for iPhone and iPad for just $2.99/£1.99! Check out the trailer:
About Pumped: BMXPumped BMX 2 has been two years in the making - I started work on it not long after the release of 'Pumped: BMX' in August 2012. Pumped 1 was a 2D game, which meant the tricks you could do were limited by the 2D animations I created. I didn't have enough time (or skill!) to animate all the 360 variations, so if you wanted to do a 360 no hander (for example) you had to do a 360 and then a no hander. This was the biggest motivation for making the change to 3D: now you can combine flips, spins and tricks til the cows come home!
This time around the game comes with 50 levels, and I've also added a huge amount of challenges - 500 challenges in all, plus a healthy selection of Game Center achievements. Oh, and online leaderboards too of course.
Glitch ModeI'm really pleased with this 'feature' - once you've completed all of the in-game challenges, something called 'glitch mode' unlocks. I had a few bugs during development which the testers really enjoyed messing around with. Rather than squash them I've kept them in as an added bonus, so you can do weird and wonderful tricks, or go insanely high over jumps. It's silly, but great fun, and a big incentive to complete the game!
iOS First, Android AfterI get a fair amount of stick for this: the game is releasing on iPhone and iPad first, followed by an Android release. I'm doing this simply because I'm one guy and I don't have enough hands to work on both at the same time! I went with iOS first because it's the platform I'm most familiar with. However I've made the game in an engine called 'Unity 3D' which is cross-platform compatible out of the box, so it shouldn't take very long to get it out there.
The Lack of a LidYou can pick from a few character styles in the game, none of which are wearing a helmet. In retrospect I should have at the very least given the option to wear a lid, and it's something I'll definitely do in the future. This time around I've gone for a message that reads "real life doesn't have restarts: wear a helmet!" every time you start the game, which also appears throughout the game.

And, uh, any thoughts on a windows phone version? I dont know how well the code base transfers between iOS/android/wp8. There are no good bmx/freestyle games on Windows and I've been looking for one since wp7.
I'm looking forward to picking this up on my iPad though.
