After a month-long wait following the Mont Tremblant Canada Cup in May, the Quebec Cup series resumed once again in the Parc du Mont Comi, St. Donat. The six and a half hour drive east from Montreal featured a picturesque countryside along the St. Laurence River that made the commute a memorable one.
This is the first year Mt. Comi has hosted a QC cup round and the revamped track did not disappoint. A combination of roots and soft loamy dirt littered the course while loose berms kept the riders on their toes. There were also some questionable wooden features that kept an old school feel through the woods and open bits that made sure you haven’t skipped leg day.
Chez Les FillesThe girls navigated the fresh track and put on an impressive show come race day. Most opted for a conservative style while some took the high-risk/high-reward lines that were surfacing late in practice.
Although there were only two in the Women's Elite, Audrée Vaillancourt (Kona/Trees Mountain Apparel, Top) and Sarah Konefal (Laferté/Trou du Diable, Bottom) rode strong all weekend, pushing their limits on a bike...
...and sometimes too far over the edge.
Action from the Amateur category!
Boys to MenThe freshly groomed track quickly turned into a mess of shredded moss and exposed roots once the abuse settled in. The men were cutting corners left and right trying to find creative fast lines down the track. When the dirt settled at the end of Saturday's practice, the single-track course was looking way wider than previously thought through the Bas St. Laurent jungle.
No number plates in practice seemed to be all the rage..
Anthony Poulson focused on the win in the Cadet/U17 class. Impressive riding by the youngster!
More greenery.
PowerhouseJonathan Lefrançois proved himself a top contender, winning by 4 seconds after a dominating effort. He was firing on all cylinders, pedaling every opportunity he had and picked smooth lines in the tattered terrain.
Lamas on the RoadIt was a solid race weekend for the Lamas in the Parc du Mont Comi. The boys seemed to favor the sea of berms and loose terrain. Our Cadet ripper, Lucas Rey-Sierro had his lines dialed. He was feeling confident and energetic on his sled, finally finishing second after a great run. In Junior Expert, Liam Rourke found the strength in him to pedal into third place. He kept at pace, trying different line combinations until satisfied.
