Pinkbike and Red Bull bring the online world to Rampage!

by Julian Coffey
Sep 29, 2010

Pinkbike.com and Red Bull will collaborate to pioneer a new interactive online experience for the 2010 Red Bull Rampage.

The crown jewel in any charger’s trophy case, the Red Bull Rampage waits in the Utah desert for the willing, the skilled and the lucky to claim her as their own. Not only will this event be broadcast live online, web users can partake in the inaugural Pinkbike World Vote, the first ever live online voting system for an event of this kind.

2010 Red Bull Rampage - Watch and Vote Live!

This year's Red Bull Rampage (Sunday, October 3rd, at 12pm PST) will provide the opportunity to watch the event live on Pinkbike.com and their partner sites, and then vote LIVE to score each rider's run. You will be the judge for the online vote!

This is how your votes will be displayed during the live broad cast.

The Pinkbike World Vote will run throughout the live broadcast, and all athlete runs will feature a real time interactive voting system, allowing users to vote for their favorite rider. One vote per user per run, and all votes will be grouped geographically. The rider with the highest online score will become the first athlete to receive a Pinkbike media contract, an agreement that will keep the rider and his sponsors promoted and in the spotlight on Pinkbike throughout 2011.

Runs will be judged on four criteria: line difficulty, fluidity, style/technique, and air/amplitude - each of which will be judged out of 25. This year’s star studded judging panel is Chris Lawrence, Scott Hart, Aaron Chase and the iconic Randy Spangler.

This is your interactive viewing and voting interface.

In an unprecedented move, Pinkbike has created several international partnerships who will also broadcast and allow users to vote on the Red Bull Rampage: Freecaster.tv in the UK; bikemag.com and sicklines.com in the US; nsmb.com in Canada; mtb-news.de in Germany; pedal.com.br in Brazil; mtb-forum.it in Italy; dh-zone.com in Poland. Freeride legend Tarek Rasouli will also showcase the Rampage on his video based site, watch26.tv, and of course redbullusa.com/rampage.

Yeah, the claw is here and riding, doesn't seem to be slowed down at all. Semenuk is still out with his collar bone injury, and obviously McCaul is with his broken femur.

I personally am pretty excited to be able to tune in and watch this event live. Rampage is beyond bad ass and now I can log in, sit down and grab a few snacks and watch it online like all the other sports out there just stokes me out. Why watch Sunday football? Heck no, Rampage is on!

Are we the true judges of the event? It just seems odd to me that they leave it to online viewers. What is stopping me to give my favourite rider %100?

I believe we'd represent the "World" score, while the individual country scores are actual judges.

No, the online votes will not sway the results of the event for exactly that potential bias. They will however be incorporated into the live broadcast for viewers to make a comparison between the online community opinion, and the actual judges scores. They will also serve to help create the first Pinkbike media contract for one rider.

"an agreement that will propel that rider into the spotlight in 2011." there is a good chance that the rider that wins rampage is already in the spotlight and just winning rampage alone will put them in the spotlight without the help of pinkbike.

but i still like the idea

Thanks - it may be the case however that the rider that wins Rampage is not the same rider that wins the online vote.

better wording. " receive a Pinkbike media contract, an agreement that will keep the rider and his sponsors promoted and in the spotlight on Pinkbike throughout 2011"

I'm pulling for Wil white. I know he's not going to win, but it feels more like he's from the world of pinkbike than the big names in the sport.

It depends what time zone your in....
Europe has many different times....

I would enrole in elementary school and figure out how to tell time first, then figure out where you live, then calculate the time diference between there and Utah or PST in North America.

I hope that helps you out. Smile
