Red Bull Rampage 2014: Nugs From The Qualies

RED BULL

RIDE THE LIGHTNING

RAMPAGE

Today started to feel like a flashback to last year's finals when the qualifiers were cut short mid second round due to weather. Clouds filled the sky for as far as the eye could see, then rumbles of thunder broke out and were punctuated by strikes of lightning. The qualifiers were optimistically put on hold while the event organizers performed a passionate sun dance, but to no avail. The call was eventually made with the delayed second runs being moved to tomorrow morning, that is assuming that the calls for further storms and flash floods have been greatly exaggerated. It will be a long night for everyone involved with the event, as they spend the night peering out their windows and trying to stay positive while considering the worse case scenario for weather damage and delays.

Looks like redbull done good with keeping the woodwork to a minimum. Just a few booters for ad dollars, big hit tv coverage and terrain flow. Otherwise looks down and dirty. Solid.

Just an idea, let's have a VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...VOTE...get the fans involved.

The bad weather is messing up the Round 2 of Qualifying and it's unlikely they will able to compete due to heavy rain. If that's the case then they are going with the Top 10 from the runs they were able to get in before the weather got bad. Also, two of the Pre-Qualifiers are out due to injuries before Rampage.... let's make some things right and Vote for 2 riders from the remaining Qualifiers who missed their shot at Round 2 (11-26 after Round 1)) who we think should be there! All in favor, vote now and maybe Rampage will take notice. Maybe we can Vote for the 2 remaining riders on Redbull.com or Pinkbike or....somewhere...
  • 10 1
I think that is a good idea B65wagon however I'm sure there are many fans like me and I'm sure you too who have their favourite riders so the poll could be very biased.
  • 4 3
Faves is the idea. I think people would vote for those they felt were the most entertaining and/or deserving. Whatever it's just an idea, draw straws if it really bothers you, I just hope they fill those 2 last spots!

As a brit having to get the timings right so we dont miss out on the action, I must say the photo coverage and video clips this year have been awesome. Well done PB.

Awesome photo-set! Bummed Doerfling didn't make the finals, so much big mountain style, and a camo bike, perfect combo to win Rampage.
  • 10 0
He's in 8th, pretty sure top 10 make finals.
  • 3 0
How so? Doerfling is sitting 8th while qualification results will be finalized Saturday. Right?
  • 5 1
Reading comprehension fail on my part, I read that as 8th, then crashed on the second run and didn't make finals. Less bummed now, hope to see him on the top step Sunday.

I real bummer that the riders/organizers couldn't get their act together to get the second runs off in a timely fashion. We were sitting on the contest site, where it was obvious to everyone that some weather was coming. But instead of a 20-30 minute break, as planned, we were treated to over an hour of the announcers begging the riders to get back to the top for their second runs. And then they come up about 30-40 minutes short of getting the whole second runs in? WTF. Am I wrong to expect more out of this level of competition? It really bit them in the ass this time.

It seems that the journey from the start at the top of the mountain is just one long drop in into either the go pro or the red bull ramp.. then they go upside down. Maybe the riders are better now because they make it look easy.
