I know I'll take some heat for this comment, but I think the Rampage is heading in the wrong direction. This event started as a competition for big mountain freeriding, making use of the unique natural terrain, now it's half slope style half freeriding. I think it should remain an all natural terrain freeride event that will give riders who excel at picking creative lines an advantage over guys that can throw SS tricks off a built structure. Don't get me wrong, what these guys are doing is unreal, and fun to watch, but I would like to see this unique event, stay unique, and not turn into a slope style event with tons of built features.
I think if there was nothing built and everyone had to find creative lines it would end up as watching a bunch of people ride down a hillside. Only so many lines that arent huge cliffs or ridges can be found. Theres not much else they could evolve it into but this.
Yeah, I totally understand that. THere's no questioning the fact the this event has progressed over the years to be more diverse. Without built features this wouldn't happen. I just think there should be at least one event that's all about freeriding natural terrain with no built features. That's what big mountain freeriding is, and that's what this event was created to showcase. I know things evolve over the years, and usually for the better, but let's not forget what natural terrain freeriding is.
if you want the sport to get bigger then it has to push the boundaries and the only way to do that is to build insane stunts that people will tune in to see. No matter what line the riders take rampage has always had man-made input of some description.
Nah I don't agree with that, Utah is the place that it all started, but if you truly believe that is the only kind of gnar natural terrain in the U.S. then you are sadly mistaken. I do believe that the use of natural lines has fallen by the wayside and I think it would bring out a different breed of riders too, maybe we would see more people stepping up because they wouldn't necessarily have the tricks, but they wouldn't need them if their line was unique enough.... I don't think the Rampage is about money even, hell to win a Rampage it takes balls and attitude, and in return you get bragging rights. In mountain biking sometimes that goes further than winning money....
holy mother of balls! When I first saw Andreu I was kinda scared that Red Bull was only gonna film Red Bull Athletes and no one else, but they didn't thankfully :p That is just plain ridiculous ... who did the 2nd flip there?
Neck brace would be a lot better but might be a little restrictive, and I'm not sure if body armour would make a big difference when going down THAT hard

I suppose I shouldn't judge without ever meeting him, but he comes across as he thinks he is the "best of the best", when he rides it's like he expects others to bow for him, seems to be on a pedestal,but I have never met him. Its just how he comes across,

When I was a DJer, I NEVER jumped in the wind - too risky. I don't know how these boys have room to fit a bike between their legs: they must have balls the size of coconuts!
Wow, apparently you've never crashed hard. The only thing that gets someone up after a crash like that is momentum and/or how that particular person reacts to shock. If someone goes down that hard and stays down for a few minutes, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
I agree - how difficult would it be for RB to put together an edit that shows the runs? Instead, we have video snapshots that bounce all over the place, apparently to appeal to A.D.D. folks who can't sit still long enough to watch an entire 1 minute run. Annoying to see a 'Qualifiers' video when you can't see the qualifying runs, or even tell who the riders are.
