i agree and i disagree. I think it's good that a lot of the smaller names to be able to be so successful. On the other hand It would have been nice to have more of the pro compete.
The reason they decided to do that is because next weekend there is the first round of the ProGrt at port angeles. So they had to choose between 2 poisons
@PiersonBikes, U complain about a multiple World Champion winning races? Get over it. Gwin's confidence took a lot hammering last year. Now he's back on top. I bet u wouldn't bitch if he was canadian. America power.
Fair point about Gwin, he gets more stick than he deserves, he's a great athlete and I was genuinely happy to see him win. But FYI he's never been World Champion ;-) Also none of the WC field is going to turn up at the ProGRT in Washington the weekend between two races in South Africa and Australia...
just because none of them will turn up doesn't make UCI's decision go away. They made their decision nothing we can do about it and @tracer2 don't give us Americans a bad name, I think its cool for the young guns and unknowns to get their name heard. Its hard to get noticed when the majority of world cup racers are racing against you.
@tracer2 I wasn't holding anything against Aaron Gwin. He was just the most relatable because he won the WC he would have most likely won the sea otter too.
@tracer 2 Not trying to shoot gwin down. But he may not be "back" yet. He won round one. But it might be different when he is on a dh bike again. Maybe the enduro worked here but he will need to repeat it on the demo. And smith has yet to return ;P
Duggles, you make a very distinct point. I was wrong about Gwin being a world champ. As far as North America is concerned, he dominated like nobody else. He proved he was force and he appears to be hungry again. We have a long season ahead of us and I see a very fit professional athlete. Good luck Aaron. Once again, America power.
I come from a motocross background and the whole World Cup / World Champ's thing just doesn't make sense to me. Am I missing something? It seems to be: 1. All of the same top competitors 2. The same course as usual just in rotation yearly 3. Just because you win one single event you get more glory then being consistent and winning the overall title?
Someone clear that up for me because I just don't get it, it seems like just another way to add another trophy or title into the mix of the season (which I have nothing against). But I do think that someone that wins the overall standings in the World Cup series should be glorified over someone who wins one single event.
But hey, I've only been in the DH scene for 2 years now so clue me in and correct me if I'm wrong.
I wouldn't say "more" glory, but it's definitely a title many racers would like. Aaron Gwin has stated he's not interested in the champs, but perhaps that's because he's never won it. I'm sure he'd be pretty stoked if he did win it.
Personally I'd say the world cup is the most important title because as you said, it's the consistent performer, rather than a good run on a track you may happen to excel at. Either way, I know it's not something I'll ever achieve, but congrats and best of luck to those who have and will.
Gotta give a huge thanks to everyone who put this on this weekend... So much fun, and the lack of groomed trail below the half-way point made it SO much better.
Disappointing they only show pro times. I went to sea otter for the first time, raced cat 3 and got second. Wouldve loved to see my name on pinkbike. Feel like it would be a good way to get noticed as well which has been a big goal for me
Hahaha not a sandbagger, im only 14 and ive been racing downhill for less than a season. I just had a good run on the course. Im sorry you feel that way

That's two first places aboard that bike this month!
