Aaron Gwin DNF! What happened! This is why we need video
  • 4 1
 ahhhhhhh what the shit.....
  • 83 17
 He lost the faith.
  • 12 0
 breaking bikes.
  • 94 1
Apparently nothing on his bike broke, so he said fuck it and went back to the pits to figure out a plan for his chain in finals.
  • 7 1
Qualifying still counts toward overall points so I'm guessing a major crash. I hope he's ok! This is a high speed course and everyone is pushing it right to the edge. I would hate to tomahawk at those speeds.
  • 5 2
didn't his bike break in timed training too?
  • 22 9
So he is going to start first and make the remaining riders see red in their splits. Gwin is such an excitement killer.
  • 42 5
Snapped a pedal in the first turn and pulled off the track. He's fine. He'll be Gwinning tomorrow.

How do you "snap" a clipless pedal?
  • 107 2
sorry hamncheez, wanted to downvote you but accidentally gave you an upvote.
  • 6 4
Bruni has #1 plate all warmed up right now :-)
  • 3 2
@chyu - He'll start around the 20th qualifying position - protected riders are slotted in 20th from last to go, if they don't qualify, I believe.
  • 2 0
 How many make finals?
  • 16 1
so, gwin should have the most favorable track conditions by DNFing in his quali. sneaky strategy
  • 5 0
 @probi it's 80 men in finals.
  • 5 0
Man a lot of familiar names didn't make it in. Eliot Jackson, Logan Binggeli, Aiello, Mckay Vezina, Remy for his first WC. Bummer.
  • 35 3
Guess with Remy Metailler qualifying 97th (I know it's his first world cup) this will put an end to the endless comments of, "he should race world cups because he'd finish in the top 20 for sure."
  • 5 0
Aiello made it!! Way to go KA!!
  • 15 0
Watching this has reinforced how difficult it is to race at the WC level. Guys like Metailler, van Steenburgen, Cruz, Jackson, Bingelli, etc... are all amazing riders, yet still didn't qualify. Amazing.
  • 1 0
@fullbug are the trail gnomes coming out between qualifying and racing to clean everything? I think not.
  • 1 0
Why do they only show the top 20?
  • 13 1
those are some big gaps in times too. doesnt surprise me at all that guys like metallier dont qualify - theres a big difference to making a video of a perfect run on tracks you know really well to going to a new course and smashing it a new one. Racing vs freeriding vs whatever. Just ask teamrobot.
  • 2 1
rachel would have qualified at 57th... but the weather went to crap during the mens qualies apparently, really throwing things off
  • 4 5
Metaillers claiming to have had a big crash on his Instagram so the jury's still out on that one.
  • 4 3
He crashed. I think could still do awesome if he stayed up
  • 2 0
Lots of crashes in Elite Male due to track conditions. The top guys had the worst conditions. Special run by Troy today.
  • 1 0
@mtbswindler- no gnomes necessary. Just simple order of math. If the bad weather continues thru out, track conditions may get worse as the 79 more after him go, which, is fewer numbers combined from women and juniors. If the sun shows up early or late it still is a numbers game with seeding. Mother Nature decides sometimes.
  • 4 1
Meh, many, many people could have done well if they hadn't crashed. That's the game...
  • 2 4
@idhbaker name someone who did well in there first World Cup race? You can't judge someone realistically until they've had a couple of seasons behind them.
  • 1 0
All math, yeah. You were so right. Hahhahahaha
  • 1 0
You're right. Racing is not math. Gnomes make sure of it.

 Gwin DNF WTF?!!!
  • 1 0
with the time gaps and the rain we received, he migh have got off the tapes?? anyway he is a protected riders, hope he is not hurt

  • 1 1
the conditions must be so super shitty right now
  • 2 1
Must be muddy there. Danny was the fastest man in champery and troy as a junior was second there in Open
  • 2 0
Yeah I was there to watch that race, Brosnan would have come 2nd in the big boys category that day I believe too! Those two were on another level then, will they be here too?! :-) excite!!!!
  • 1 0
how did top 11 all run faster then 4:25 in "timed training " yet that is the fastest time now ??!!??
  • 1 0
because 1) timed training doesn't give you an exact gauge of racing and 2) it was raining like crazy before the start of the men's race so conditions were not that easy apparently
  • 9 1
It rained after timed practice yesterday hence the slower times..

Also so awesome to see Remy at a world cup 42 seconds off of Troy, not racing a phat wednesday with a "conservative run" get outta here you clown
  • 4 0
^ I guess weekday race nights on a trail you ride all the time is a bit different than a WC event, haha. I love seeing how the local shredders stack up against the world's best on a trail no one is completely used to. Its an incomprehensible difference in most cases which is insane to think about.
  • 1 1
Luck plays a lot into it as well as maybe the best bikes in the world. Lots of peeps out there with the potential. Here's hoping he tears it up. I'm predicting top 20. He's from Canada, c'mon.
  • 1 0
He's from France and he's a p.o.s. Here's to hoping he moves home
  • 1 0

Yes! Can't upvote more than once, but I want to.
  • 20 0
What did Brosnan eat for breakfast???
  • 90 0
 Poutine.
  • 7 3
I guess poutine makes you heavier therefore faster ? Big Grin (wait which poutine are we talking about ? hahaha)
  • 5 0
 holy time gaps!
  • 12 1
 ordering poutine right now...
  • 5 1
It would be odd not to see Sam Hill and Steve Smith tomorrow.. They are outside the top 30 WTF??
  • 19 0
All that poutine will bind you up too. Maybe he had to take a massive dump and straight lined to the shitter.
  • 1 0
hahahahahahaha best thing ive read ever
  • 2 1
maybe he had that poutine for dinner last night so he had a proper lucky dump this morning. THAT EXPLAINS IT!
  • 2 1
@AdamOdh Sam hill is still recovering from his shoulder injury, and I'm see Stevie smith had an issue of some sort.
  • 13 0
Wet weather you say.. does this mean it's "Danny, stay on your bike" time?
  • 11 1
Two words HARRY HEATH !!!!!!! Get the hell in there mate, just been on the phone with him, blinder. Fingers crossed for race day
  • 11 0
Aargh. I hate trying to read this on mobile. Mr. Blobby won everything again.
  • 10 0
 Yes Brendog!!
  • 5 0
the duded is absolutely ripping this year eh? Its awesome to see him getting good results after a long time of not getting anythign solid really
  • 8 0
 Jacob Dickson is the man
  • 6 1
Watching these numbers pop on the screen is a lot more dramatic than I thought it would be. Pretty stoked to see the real thing in the finals.
  • 5 0
Big props to Troy for stepping up. He's been quiet all year and its good to see him up where he belongs.

What happened to Stevie? He looked so good in practice.
  • 2 0
He qualified, but a little further down. I'd guess he had a wild ride at some point. It's a loooooong and technical track and, with his fast and loose style, something's bound to get crazy-go-nuts. There's also the off-chance he's playing the tactical game and sat up to get an earlier start time for finals in anticipation of nasty weather for the top-20. Ah, racing!!
  • 2 0
Yes to Troy ! Go on boy, man, lad....whatever hehe.

I am of the mindset some of the older boys won't mind being further back, what's the weather saying tomorrow? Is it race Saturday at MSA?
  • 1 0
@Pininator are you making a reference to Strongbad when you say, "crazy-go-nuts"?
  • 1 0
 @airsoftesneeto the one and only.
  • 2 0
hahahahahahahaaha, i had a good laugh. thanks
  • 2 0
So Troy beat Danny by something like 4s in qualies! Danny is designed to ride in the rain (and throw huge whips)! Troy comes from a super hot/dusty (usually the weather here is Adelaide) area. It's great to see that his training over in whistler has payed off. Good on ya TB!
  • 6 0
So many top guys are more than 10 seconds back!? what is going on??
  • 9 0
The weather has taken a turn for the worse apparently.
  • 1 0
Aa soon as I saw the times thars what I immediately thought. That's the only logical reason for guys like minnar, Gee, Bruni etc to be so far back.
  • 3 0
Most times are worse than timed training too - even Stevie's TT run would have qualified him 1st.
  • 2 0
geebee good to hear. The times did seem a little bizarre, especially with some of the top guys so far out. Man tomorrow will be exciting. Bummer Gwin had issues, but love that the points are getting tighter between Minnaar, Bruni, and Gwin. It'd be so rad if there was a winner take all final in Val di Sole between 3 or 4 guys
  • 1 0
From what I've read from riders' updates over at MSA, sounded like the track got super wild with the likes of Smith and Bruni going through the tape.
  • 1 0
 alright thank you^^
I hope Connor can win this one! Salute
  • 6 0
Common Sam! Top ten at least!!
  • 3 0
 ah well. still in touch.
  • 1 0
massive time difference, track must have been hellish!
  • 5 0
I called Brosnan to win yesterday. Gut feelings ftw. He is going to smash it.
  • 1 0
Interesting sort-out for the men. Tomorrow will be interesting to say the least...either it will be a similar finals or, like I'm guessing, it will be like shaking a snow-globe and the results will be entirely different this time tomorrow. It's that kind of track.
  • 9 0
Holy crap! Rachel and Emmeline both would have qualified for men's finals...Emmeline would have been 67th and Rachel would have slotted in 57th!! That is beyond impressive on a long track like MSA.
  • 9 0
Mate have you ever raced in the same race as Rachel? It's embarrassing unless you're elite I'll tell you.
  • 2 0
She came to one of the local races several years ago...I was severely humbled. NEXT-next level.
  • 2 0
Completely different track. Dry for the Juniors and Women, rained so hard after the women that the spectators were all hiding under the bleachers. Stopped raining but left the track a mess.
  • 1 0
That makes it a lot more fathomable - no discredit to the elite women. Thanks, @forecast01
  • 4 1
Just Sayin',,Gee or Danny tomorrow...but like to see Hill win or Neko and Luca Shaw podium..that would be epic...but in all reality , without pedals GWINNINGGGGG>>.
  • 1 0
First 4 male elite riders separated by almost 8 seconds! That's pretty rare isn't it? Troy made up some sweet time after the first split so must have sneaky lines up his sleeve. Hope to see them all in HD glory on Sunday Smile
  • 2 0
YEAH TROY!!!!! I have been waiting all year for Troy to take top seed in qualies!! Hopefully he can do the same tomorrow and take the win!! Favorite rider right there!!!
  • 5 1
What happened ? Gwin DNF ?
  • 4 0
How is the weather in Quebec?
  • 2 0
Clear sky, Not too hot. Perfect for biking.
  • 2 0
 it rained
  • 1 0
 thanks^^
  • 4 0
I hope Brendon gets a podium
  • 2 1
what is this?? Faircloughs timed training time was faster then the time of the current leader.Everyones is so much slower then they were in timed training...
  • 3 0
 It's wet
  • 9 0
The track gained about 10,000 gallons of water between timed-training and qualies.
  • 9 6
Remy ain't so good outside the Bike Park it seems
  • 5 1
 His first world cup?
  • 4 0
They are still in a bike park.

scrolling along and thought, who the hell's Michael Hannah??....... then that there penny dropped
  • 1 0
Surprising to see how far off the times are for Minnaar and Gee. Now Gwin will sit in the hot seat till the near end if not very end!
  • 3 0
Go on Brendan good qual come on now make a good result in race tooooo
  • 2 0
Be so good to see Brendan podium, but watching the way he is currently riding, would be even better to see him win the bloody thing!
  • 3 0
 Dannyyyyyyy!
  • 4 1
 luca shaw!
  • 2 1
Rachell is 12 seconds behind Gee. Thats pretty impressive. I feel something weird is happening in MSA.

 Gwin WTF! DNF?
  • 1 0
Wow, Troy crushed it. And Gwin with a DNF. Drama tomorrow for sure.
  • 1 0
No Stevie! Hope he can hold on to the top 80...
  • 2 0
He's in somewhere in the mid-50's. At worse, he'll have some quality-time in the hot-seat tomorrow...if he doesn't just hold it until the end.

Why there is no "syndicate" name under Ratboy's name???
  • 5 0
team syndacate it's not an official uci team this year.....
  • 4 0
BEcuase the Syndicate is not a trade team this year due to UCI raising a stink over them wearing different brands of jerseys.
  • 1 0
 Yes... Please explain!
  • 1 0
Have a look at Chapter IX and X in the UCI rulebook. The 'Elite' or 'trade' teams get more perks.
  • 1 0
The top junior is as fast as Greg Minnaar
  • 1 0
Neil Stewart would had the third fastest trap speed. Pinned!
  • 4 4
does DNF mean did not finish???
  • 6 0
It does. Gwin still races in finals since he's a protected rider (top-20) - assuming he didn't break himselff off. Hopefully, that's not the case.
  • 1 0
Yeah I hope so its always fun to see him race
  • 1 0
Does he go first tomorrow then?
  • 2 0
No he would go off somewhere in top 30. Similar to how he did at Lourdes, earlier this year. My guess is he crashed. Hopefully he is alright but maybe he is playing the weather tactic game. Trying to get an earlier start before the course gets chewed up tomorrow in finals.
  • 3 1
actually Gwin did the same in Lourdes and it succeeded him pretty good Smile
  • 2 2
Why is Bas always racing under the name Sebastian?
  • 6 0
I could be wrong here but I'm guessing Sebastian is his full legal name which appears on his race license and Bas is his nickname.
  • 1 0
shit rachy was on a tear
  • 3 2
 Gwin DNF!
  • 1 0
 What happened to Smith?
  • 9 0
 He rode a bit slower.
  • 1 0
According to his instagram he rode off course then had to climb back up to get back on course.
  • 1 0
 sam hill is back!
  • 1 0
Nearly, great to see him on track, I expect he's played it cool there.
  • 4 0
He's admittedly not 100% yet...his main focus is on worlds. That's not saying he can't pull off the win tomorrow. He IS Sam Hill, after all.
  • 3 0
Yep, we know. Just good to have him back is all.
  • 1 1
 stevie smith in 64th?? Frown
