As forecast, heavy rain came down during qualifications. Whilst the Junior Men and Elite Women sessions were unaffected, as soon as the Elite Men lined up at the start gate, the rain started.
Tomorrow's forecast indicates there being a few showers in the late morning, with a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Source: Weather.gc.ca
Qualifying still counts toward overall points so I'm guessing a major crash. I hope he's ok!
This is a high speed course and everyone is pushing it right to the edge. I would hate to tomahawk at those speeds.
Guess with Remy Metailler qualifying 97th (I know it's his first world cup) this will put an end to the endless comments of, "he should race world cups because he'd finish in the top 20 for sure."
Watching this has reinforced how difficult it is to race at the WC level. Guys like Metailler, van Steenburgen, Cruz, Jackson, Bingelli, etc... are all amazing riders, yet still didn't qualify. Amazing.
those are some big gaps in times too. doesnt surprise me at all that guys like metallier dont qualify - theres a big difference to making a video of a perfect run on tracks you know really well to going to a new course and smashing it a new one. Racing vs freeriding vs whatever. Just ask teamrobot.
@mtbswindler- no gnomes necessary. Just simple order of math. If the bad weather continues thru out, track conditions may get worse as the 79 more after him go, which, is fewer numbers combined from women and juniors. If the sun shows up early or late it still is a numbers game with seeding. Mother Nature decides sometimes.
@idhbaker name someone who did well in there first World Cup race? You can't judge someone realistically until they've had a couple of seasons behind them.
Yeah I was there to watch that race, Brosnan would have come 2nd in the big boys category that day I believe too! Those two were on another level then, will they be here too?! :-) excite!!!!
because 1) timed training doesn't give you an exact gauge of racing and 2) it was raining like crazy before the start of the men's race so conditions were not that easy apparently
^ I guess weekday race nights on a trail you ride all the time is a bit different than a WC event, haha. I love seeing how the local shredders stack up against the world's best on a trail no one is completely used to. Its an incomprehensible difference in most cases which is insane to think about.
Luck plays a lot into it as well as maybe the best bikes in the world. Lots of peeps out there with the potential. Here's hoping he tears it up. I'm predicting top 20. He's from Canada, c'mon.
pinkbike: will you please stopp using scribd when you present the results! I have no wish to log in just to see the results, and I have no wish ti use my facebook account to log in and download a pdf. please upload the results in another way! for now I will resort to vitalmtb...
He qualified, but a little further down. I'd guess he had a wild ride at some point. It's a loooooong and technical track and, with his fast and loose style, something's bound to get crazy-go-nuts. There's also the off-chance he's playing the tactical game and sat up to get an earlier start time for finals in anticipation of nasty weather for the top-20.
Ah, racing!!
So Troy beat Danny by something like 4s in qualies! Danny is designed to ride in the rain (and throw huge whips)! Troy comes from a super hot/dusty (usually the weather here is Adelaide) area. It's great to see that his training over in whistler has payed off. Good on ya TB!
geebee good to hear. The times did seem a little bizarre, especially with some of the top guys so far out. Man tomorrow will be exciting.
Bummer Gwin had issues, but love that the points are getting tighter between Minnaar, Bruni, and Gwin. It'd be so rad if there was a winner take all final in Val di Sole between 3 or 4 guys
Interesting sort-out for the men. Tomorrow will be interesting to say the least...either it will be a similar finals or, like I'm guessing, it will be like shaking a snow-globe and the results will be entirely different this time tomorrow. It's that kind of track.
Holy crap! Rachel and Emmeline both would have qualified for men's finals...Emmeline would have been 67th and Rachel would have slotted in 57th!! That is beyond impressive on a long track like MSA.
Completely different track. Dry for the Juniors and Women, rained so hard after the women that the spectators were all hiding under the bleachers. Stopped raining but left the track a mess.
Just Sayin',,Gee or Danny tomorrow...but like to see Hill win or Neko and Luca Shaw podium..that would be epic...but in all reality , without pedals GWINNINGGGGG>>.
First 4 male elite riders separated by almost 8 seconds! That's pretty rare isn't it? Troy made up some sweet time after the first split so must have sneaky lines up his sleeve. Hope to see them all in HD glory on Sunday
YEAH TROY!!!!! I have been waiting all year for Troy to take top seed in qualies!! Hopefully he can do the same tomorrow and take the win!! Favorite rider right there!!!
what is this?? Faircloughs timed training time was faster then the time of the current leader.Everyones is so much slower then they were in timed training...
No he would go off somewhere in top 30. Similar to how he did at Lourdes, earlier this year. My guess is he crashed. Hopefully he is alright but maybe he is playing the weather tactic game. Trying to get an earlier start before the course gets chewed up tomorrow in finals.

Also so awesome to see Remy at a world cup 42 seconds off of Troy, not racing a phat wednesday with a "conservative run" get outta here you clown
What happened to Stevie? He looked so good in practice.
I am of the mindset some of the older boys won't mind being further back, what's the weather saying tomorrow? Is it race Saturday at MSA?
I hope Connor can win this one!
