Shaun Palmer, with contest winners Josh Hildreth and Steve Aday, ride the chair for another run at Canyons Bike Park.

Over the weekend of July 31st–Aug 2nd, two lucky winners: one consumer photo contest winner, and one FLY Racing dealer drawing winner, took to the trails at Canyon’s Bike Park in Park City, Utah to ride with action sports legend Shaun Palmer.

Photo contest winner Josh Hildreth came to ride with Shaun and showed off his talent; while dealer winner Steve Aday of Marina Cyclery in Monterey, CA. showed even at age 52 he’s still got it! Both winners were able to ride two full days with Shaun, the weather was perfect, and the photos tell the story they both had a great time.

But did they get to party with him that night? That is the question.

Having seen that in action when he was in his prime of snowboarding I hope they wore their helmets if they did....

So the photographer "carried a heavy pack all over the mountain" and came away with 5 shots. Hey Matt, can you come in my office and close the door.

The "Heavy Pack " must have been full of beer? Five photos? thats weak!!!

I gotta say, taking laps and throwing em' back with the legend for a whole weekend was pretty fuckin rad

@jhil92 Congrats. Must have been a blast.

 Josh: "Hey!"
Steve: "Sup?"
Palmer: "Ack! Thoop!"

Yep, total Bill The Cat. Too funny, dude! Nobody will get this tho.

 Ack! THBBFT!

If I were famous, I'd be much more of a D-bag than Palmer could ever think of being.

Haha... this was funny...then i saw the posters name.... Bahahaha!

Is Palmer still an asshat with a huge ego or has the guy got any cooler with age? I found Brian Lopes to be a much cooler guy...

Lopes isn't a douche. He just parks like one.

Attitude or not, it would be kick ass to do a few laps with a legend. Although riding with the Palm, I'd be hacking up his dust all day and he'd probably be laughing his ass off.

I got to ride up the chair with him and take a lap with him that day. He was supper chill and a nice dude. No ego at all, asked what trails I liked up there and recommendations, just normal chairlift chat...

He was super cool to my little nephews when they met him at the Fontana races.....

Lopes is a dbag...have run into him a few times on the trails. Buddy and I *somewhat* kept pace with him on DH bikes and he went off on this rant about how we only were able to because our bikes. Was pretty funny actually. I mean, we were just excited to ride with him...he's a stud, why would he be insecure.

(was a trail that can benefit from a DH bike but can also be ridden perfectly fine on an enduro) - 5oaks in Aliso Woods if anyone is familiar with SoCal riding.

He's a total bro. Super approachable even right before he drops into a stage, I've had a few interactions with him over the last 10 years and he's always been a great ambassador for the sport. And for old guys that still pin it.

@whattheheel I would rather be an over confident jerk than ride like a chump. you low T kids need to get off Palmer and Lopes nuts. Both those guys are studs and have pushed themselves to the edge of whats possible their whole lives. Sorry but super nice and pro athlete dont always go hand in hand.

The times I have met Lopes he was super cool and so was his woman and dog. Took the time to shoot the breeze and talke about bikes. My Palmer meetings have been very brief and not the greatest.

sounds like you are a fanboy. maybe you should stop asking for autographs and go ride your bike more.

Palmer is Palmer, love him or hate him. The dude helped me when I broke my collarbone in the Bear Mtn Pipe in 1990 and was a total bro about it. Then about 4 years later he banged my girlfriend at the time. True story. LOL. Gotta love the pro hoes and the Palm Daddy.

examples of super nice pro mtbers: Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar, Leigh Donovan, Cedric Gracia, Tinker Juarez, Matt Hunter, Eliot Jackson, Bernard Kerr, Mitch Ropelato, Josh Bryceland....

@cuban-b like i said super nice and pro athlete dont "always" go hand in hand. minaar and ratboy are amazing dudes and i look up to them. But Palmer was more than a bad attitude, he was a multi-sport stud. lets not let the internet studs tear down his true legacy and make it only about his personality. we dont watch these guys rip down hills for what they are going to say.

Norcal77. Hell yeah I am a fanboy. Growing up in south Dakota and running into Lopes was rad. He was cool as hell for the most part and I was there riding. No autograph from Lopes then. Just shooting the shit and asking about his setup. Miller, bummer on the broken bones but stoked the Palm took care of you.

One of the coolest most down to earth guys I've ever met. Ended up watching cops and drinking Tecate with him the last night of the trip.

Thing about Lopes is that he CONSISTENTLY proves himself to be a legit badass! I want to hit like the guy either...but i won't be dethroning him any time soon!
Palmer? f*ck any dude who still spikes his hair like his grandkids...

I'd never fuck that guy. Regardless of how good his hair looks.

Didn't palmer drop off the radar for like 15 years? I don't follow this stuff closely, but everyone is talking about him as if he's been involved to the tune of peaty etc....haven't heard a single word about him since I started MTB in 2009...

I know he has an interesting history, but he just doesn't seem very relevant other than his recent resurgence with intense...
  • 3 0
He raced for 3 years and vanished, don't put him in the same breathe as peaty who has contributed greatly to the sport.

it was more contrast than compare.

So bro. Bro-er than bro, bro Broseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat Bro forth and conquer Bro

Good to see the original mtn bike rock star back in action!

Steve Aday! Way to represent Marina!
  • 2 4
palmer has more style in his sleep than any keyboard tough guy claiming that Palmer isn't a nice guy and he isn't even that good.

Prolly the dumbest Pinkbike commenting I have read in a while. Just saying.
