It's finally time to put some shovels in Utah's red dirt, so Kyle, Tom and Andreu make the pilgrimage to Rampage. With a new venue comes a lot of new unknowns and our 3 riders must battle and collaborate with the other 45 athletes to find the perfect line. You can spend a year dreaming of your ideal Rampage run but you only get one week to build it. Will Andreu, Tom or Kyle have the creativity, shovel skills and raw talent to stand on this year's Rampage podium?
@HutchJR Yes, Rampage is completely nuts and requires a level of fearlessness unparallelled by most other sports. But to add to scott-townes comment, try going 80-95kph down a roughly paved hill on 23mm wide tires pumped up to 100+ psi in your underwear, all while the idiot drivers on the road try to kill you with their giant hunks of steel. Then tell me you weren't even the least bit worried.
@HutchJR I know, so was I. I feel though, that we should give credit to the sport that started it all and paved the way for MTBing (which IMO is undoubtedly more exciting).
@peanutbutter Most road bikes sold (in the US, at least) have 23mm tires. The new school thought is to run larger tires (25mm) with lower pressures to lower rolling resistance. 25mm tires are also more aerodynamic with today's wider aero rims, which typically measure 25mm as well. Climbers still op for 21-23mm tires dues to the lower weights.
Anyways... How 'bout that Rampage? Gonna be the Beez Kneez with a shitload of Steez.
Rampage scares the shit out of me. Watched it through my fingers last year. I don't care who wins, I just hope it's a good show and they all come back in one piece.
all i hear is the same mistakes as last year are being repeated no extended time, no proper build crews and short practice time even cut off but GASP weather you know the same thing that f*cked last years entire finals ... oh and a ton of pressure for an injured kid to keep riding the most dangerous event ever not at 100% ... the damn video starts with a gap with no safety if you short it ....yea what happens you Evil Knievel into a canyon and break your whole body ... great work rampage you havent let me down with what i expected.... this is a joke ....
Wish all the riders good fortune will new site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andreu dont mess the motorhome too much when you celebrate the win cause I need it! Better yet mess it up and I'll have a deal!
You are ALREADY peoples winner so lets crack a few!
This new site is scary....
I gotta second the lack of failsafe's for the canyon gap. The riders shouldn't have to risk death for the measly purse provided. I know all these guys ride huge stuff all the time, but for a contest of this magnitude, there needs to be more measures to ensure rider safety.
I love rampage, dh and freeride and the sport is progressing so fast, I just wish the promoters put more time into providing riders with some more safe measures.
If its like last years rampage you don't have to hit it if you don't want to. really tho whats the point of a canyon gap if its not dangerous? lets face it rampage in general isn't safe. if they wanted it to be safe it wouldn't be held on the side of a giant cliff haha
sorry but side of a cliff is where these guys ride most of the time and are used to , but this pushes them out of the comfort zone into circus shit .. and im just not down for it anymore ... id rather we have our legends live to become that ... not everyone breaking off left and right to push "progression" ... im just seing this as FEST vrs FMB (RAMPAGE) now ... where one feels like it used to ... freeride and the huge stuff is easier to hit when in your comfort zone with no pressure from the organizers event etc , the other is a overhyped circus with tons of pressure to do stuff way out of your comfort zone to be the lion in the three ring circus shit show ... whatever maybe its just me and the 5 guys who up these kinds of posts and everyone else wants to see this ... i dont. its nascar now ... also when we say safe i think we mean maybe a simple damn safety net at the back of jumps for shorting them or a dirt mound even that was done last year ... this year is like go big or go home .. in a body bag ...*overly dramatic tone drops* lol
I'm more sketched-out by some of those spines they ride and the beyond-steep chutes they utilize. The tiniest bobble in one of those sections could result in an extended rag-doll to...???
Most riders know their limits and capabilities. If they don't feel good about a certain feature, they re-route their course to suit their style. In the past, some riders chose to opt out when they felt they were in over their heads or the risk/reward wasn't to their liking.
All that being said, let's hope it's a smooth one from start to finish!!
and some people have had camera crews following them around for months and (just my own assumption) feel pretty pressured or required to run even though they arent even 100% ( Tom van) just choose to opt out is easy for the one guy who didnt give a f*ck (Krill) but for some of these guys it seems like they have to for some reason rather then use that level headedness with no backdoor mind games from organizers sponsors etc ... do i think they are actively pressuring them... probably not , do you think it plays into the mental game of do i really wana risk this much for this ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED IT DOES ... anyways i dont wanna fight about this anymore how i feel has been made clear in every one of these vids . im just not down like most others seem to be ... i wanna be stoked but im just getting frustrated at no one listening to what the riders said for years now ...
I know, so was I. I feel though, that we should give credit to the sport that started it all and paved the way for MTBing (which IMO is undoubtedly more exciting).

Oh, you're talking about the MTB hits... My bad.

Enough said.
