Richmond, Virginia is home to over 20 miles of mountain bike trails, all of which are within a 15 minute ride from downtown. The ability to go for an hour long ride on singletrack while staying within about 7 miles of the city is mind blowing. Richmonders are extremely lucky to have such a well maintained and well organized trail system right out their back door.

Due to my shoulder injury which led me to have 2 surgeries I haven't been able to hit these trails all year. You bet your ass I'll be back come next spring. I love hitting the north bank, butter milk and forest Hill!!

Oh yea! I had an injury about a year ago and had to get surgery as well. Honestly, it really sucked, but the best was getting back on the bike and riding the trails once again! Heal Fast!!

@subzero47: damn dude I feel your pain. I just bought a 2016 Scott Genius 710 that I've never had the chance to hit the trails with. (I crashed on my 2012 Genius)

So as I recover I just stare at my bike Frown

I hope you fully recover soon too my friend.

Cheers!

Awesome video. I wish the trails were as nice and extensive when I was riding in Richmond in '95. Time for a road trip to see what's improved! Any good links for a trail map, etc?

Definitely should! Here is the primary trail map for the JRPS loop.
rvamore.org/trails/jrps
This map is also found on kiosks all over the park, so its honestly pretty hard to get lost!

I did a ride this summer and we hit them all and that included lunch and a brew at Legends, a quick swim in the James, a quick stop at Colqui Cycles (awesome shop) and after all that had 24 miles.

I was very impressed with the trail system!! I want to go back soon!

Leeboy7 you need to check out Frederick, Maryland trails too! Gambril and the Watershed are the best and most vast trails near NOVA. Mountain biking on actual mountains, although no altitude like CO.

I need to go check that out now that Bryce is closing this weekend.

There is definitely a bit more pedaling than Bryce, but it sure is worth it when you start going downhill!

Just moved to NOVA from Colorado. Needing some trails to add to my existing short list. Definitely going to be hitting Richmond up. Suggest this as the top trail?

For sure...you can make a day of it and ride all of the James River Park System and then head over to Pocahontas State Park for more solid singletrack. You have Fountainhead up that way which is pretty solid and the big mountain runs in the George Washington National Forest (near Harrisonburg) aren't too far either. Cheers.

Noted. Fountainhead was a blast and I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the info!
