Thanks to my friends at PinkBike for giving me a chance to share some news about my transient lifestyle!

I am sitting at a B&B in a small prairie-town watching snow fall as I write the first of three updates on my Canadian Trials of Life school and shop tour. This 2 ½ month long journey will see me visit some 40 schools, 12 bike shops, 2 festivals, and lead one retreat. More details inside,

Let me start by sharing some details about the “Ride and Reach retreat with Ryan Leech”, it is a project I am very passionate about. Guests will spend a week with me and the crew (Sylvain and Marsha) at Boreale Mountain Biking in Whitehorse, riding heavenly singletrack, receiving customized skill instruction and progression, practicing daily yoga, sleeping in luxury yurts, eating gourmet food, and chilling in the 24 hour light that Northern Canada provides at that time of year. And yup, riding singletrack at midnight along the Yukon River is part of the game plan (as is dialing in your wheelies). There are still a few spots available, so if you’d like to come and join me, contact my friends at Boreale Mountain Biking for more details!

The hometown of Shimano Canada is Perterborough, ON, and they support a local Cops for Cancer team on a project called Pedal for Hope; they’re set to raise over a million bucks for cancer research! As a prize, I have agreed to present at the top fundraising schools during the first week of June. I have also agreed to shave my head if enough people donate to my fundraising page for this cause! Here are some more details.

I am now sitting at a Quebecois hotel on route to the Maritimes (little slow in writing this!); if you want to see if I’ll be performing in your town for a public show, check my schedule here.

For daily updates, thoughts, stories, and media, stay tuned to my new Facebook Fan Page. If you join this May, you are entered to win a Norco Manifesto Frame, same as I ride!

So far, I got worked on an xc ride by the fastest couple in Kelowna, driven over 5000km’s, slept in the back of my truck canopy three times, stuck in snow storms twice, played my didgeridoo on the shores of Lake Superior, spilled full bottles of water on my lap while driving, developed elbow tendonitis while playing with my iPhone while driving (not proud of this), listened to numerous audio books, performed at the ‘greenest’ school in Canada, got stuck on a long and random gravel road by listening to my gps instructions, was harmonized by the grandeur of the rockies, and absorbed by the immense evening skies of the prairies. All this just a week in to the 2 ½ month long expedition from Coast to Coast to Coast!

I love how Ryan travels the country sharing his love of bikes and riding. I'm a firm believer that people like him, you, and I can help change this world for the better through bikes. If everyone rode a bike the world would be a much different and possibly better place. and if Leech reads this, Thanks for the signed poster!!

Ryan, thanks again for making the stop in Bellingham, WA before heading down to Sea Otter and then off on this current tour. What a treat these next few weeks will be for you and others as you travel and share your passion and insights. Keep up the good work!

For anyone else reading this, as a teacher, parent and philosopher, I highly recommend you contact Ryan about sharing his Trials of Life program at a school near you. I've watched him present for both middle and high schools, and he was very well received. Students are wowed by the riding, and impressed by the genuine nature of his presence and presentation. In my school, students in 12th grade (grade 12 for those in the country with the Maple Leaf flag) stated unequivocally that Ryan's presentation was the "best assembly we've had in 4 years of High School". Ryan's demeanor draws the students (teachers and administrators too) into the presentation and creates an atmosphere that is ripe for individual exploration of the concepts Ryan shares. He's the real deal.
