Five ten has revamped their bike line up of shoes and they are now all ready for the public's consumption. Andrew talks to us about the new Karver, the Rennie, the Hill and the ladies Karver. If you ride flats off road, these are the shoes that you should be wearing.

As far as everyone is concerned Hill is still racing with Monster Energy as his main sponsor so green is still the main colour on these shoes.

they should make the sam hill one in high top... i sprained my ankle 6-7 times and high tops are nice... Big Grin just a suggestion maybe its possible to make each shoe in high and low top versions

flag skierdud89 (May 16, 2009 at 21:12)
good suggestion but then they wouldn't be pro models... sam hill rides low tops and nathan rennie rides high tops

I have a pair of the Karver's and granted it is the worst looking shoe in the world, but at the same time is the best performing flat pedal shoe in the world - the question is do you want a shoe to match your fake tan and hair extensions or do you want to pin it?
  • + 9
flag maximumradness (May 14, 2009 at 10:17)
when someone mentions special needs on a mountain bike forum ( that has terrible grammar and spelling and is full of peeps just spoutting off)) it reminds me that we are all special needs. thats why we dont just ride in our chuck taylors. thats why a bunch of the road f*cks wear lycra. its why those lil bmx homo's wear tight jeans, its why fixie riders wear their girls pants roled up to the stupid ankle tatto they just got, and its why god gave us knobby tires.
special needs? thats sorta the idea behind those reaaally gay clip in set ups,its the damned point of five ten making shoes that really could look cooler, but that happen to work better than any shoe anyone has ever ridden, and its sure as shit the reason that i just bought a six thousand dollar bike that only goes downhill, and a bunch of retarded moto inspired clothing that happens to be real comfortable when i am pinning it through the woods with a shit eating grin.....
specail needs?
thats me and every cyclist who's ever ripped the crap out of anything on a bike.
i just hate the crap outta red......

OMG you're a trooper.. or should i say exspendable infantry ? discussion is pointless since you have a fixed view on your reality but hear this..
for one it is kinda sad to bring up the war were you did not participate in...
the reason why ww2 came so far is that nobody in europe gave a f*ck until it was too late !
just like now the war on terrorism and muslims (for me the same).. i cant help that i am living in pasifitic europe with a sad look on reality...
but dont go calling the usa good.. you have easy fire arm laws and we have legalised weed wanna trade ??

Ontbeerlijk? maybe to you... and no... not infantry, i'm a medic.... although i have spent enough time with them to know that they are far from expendable. infact i still have nightmares about how much we are not expendable..... seperate note, in all reality i would rather us have more stringent guns laws, and i think that legalisation and regulation of pot would be a good thing.... in your view it might be sad that i bring up a war that i wasn't in... but i aleast have respect for the men who gave it all for punks like you who have no respect for history... as for your "war against muslims" view, you should not try to get a different view than that from your couch reading anti-war blogs... maybe expand your views a bit... cnn.com, bbc.co.uk, and speigel.de are the ones i frequent.de (i read it in german btw)... also you shoudl take a trip to afghanistan or iraq when you get a chance. i've been there, spent about 18 months there, and it really gave me a sense of what was going on.... let me know how everything goes... if your too scared to go i understand, but you can message me, and i'll tell you all about it... peace be with you.

Great shoes, I own the hi-cut Impact and those shoes rock. The stealth soles provide awesome grip on flat pedals. It is the small circles that do it... the pedal pins sit inside the circle cracks - perfect!! The grippiest shoes ever. Best flat pedal shoes I have ever worn.

Brucethomson, that is the saddest, most uninformed comment I have read in a long time. I guess Sam and Nathan have no idea what they are doing also? Are you serious??

The steahlt rubber kicks ass, and they are really comfortable - BUT to be honest they are still not good looking. Im a damn sneakernerd, and i wouldnt wear them to anything else than riding my bike. Dont get me wrong, they are great ! But why is it so hard for 5.10 to make some "cool looking" shoes ?!

I haven't had much luck with 5.10's, I always have to glue them back together after riding in the wet. Lately I've been using construction adhesive which does the job. And the Impacts I have don't breathe at all. Maybe the new shoes are better, but if the sticky is what you're after, get a good pair of shoes re-soled by Stealth.

I have three pairs of Impacts. One is usually used as a street shoe while it breaks in and then it gets used for riding. I can't imagine riding without a pair of 5.10s on my feet.

There's an old military saying "If it looks stupid and it works, it ain't stupid." Anyone that buys an inferior performing shoe because it LOOKS better deserves to have their feet slip off the pedals. Which will happen.

The only downside in my experience is using them for dirt jumping: sometimes you wanna jump off the pedals or take a foot off and it takes a little more effort than a skate shoe.

I have a pair of standard black lowtop 5.10's from last year and recently bought a pair of the new Freeride model (gray/black without all the design mess). The Freeride model looks great, but no where near as comfortable as the other models like the Sam Hill, etc. I get the impression that they may have used a completely different last for the Freeride model as it fits quite a bit differently, especially in the toe box. The sizing is the same, just the fit and feel/comfort of the shoe is a bit off.
