The Shimano Epic Enduro returns for 2015. In it's inaugural year, 550 pilots registered within six hours willing to tackle the 90km course. Starting at 5am, riders climbed and descended a total of 4300 metres during one day. There were three different loops, each had to be finished within a time limit to proceed to the next. The Swiss BMC Factory rider, Florian Golay took the win in a total time of 1h 20 mins over eight timed stages, nearly 14 hours to finish the entire race, living up to its Epic title! Surely one of the hardest MTB races in the world?
Here's the video re-cap from 2014
For 2015 the Epic Enduro grows to accommodate 700 riders along with even more bike time. Based in the same area of Haut Languedoc, near Olargues, one hour from Montepellier. The first stage opens at 5am with riders needing lights to illuminate the trails. Eight timed stages, 4800m of climbing and 100km total distance. 3 circuits that have cut-off times that you will need to beat in order to ride the next. The First stage is expected to be around 25 minutes, not the easiest start to the long day.
The event takes place on the 5th April 2015, with no official practice, the details of the course will be announced prior to the event. On race day no outside assistance is allowed, but at the end of each circuit riders will pass through a paddock area where equipment and nourishment can be stored.
If you think you are tough enough to take on the Epic, registration is already open so be quick:

Born and bred in this part of the world. Only problem is this event follows the Rotorua's Crankworx ... too bad for Rotorua lol. Goat's primitive trails over artificial trails anytime.
