Shimano MP-90 Shoes - keeping our feet on the pedals
Sep 8, 2008
Riding shoes are something we often overlook, however when mother nature is not on your side, your going to want some traction, and those skate shoes are not going to provide it. That being said Shimano's new MP-90 shoe could very well provide you with the traction you want.
Check out the photos and video inside.

Shimano recently sent over a pair of the MP-90 shoes, their answer to the needs of All Mountain and Freeride flat pedal riders. Designed very close beside the MP-66 DX shoe, the MP-90 provides mid top protection, and a half tongue design. A nice benefit of the half tongue design is the dirt only has 1 side to enter on, keeping the shoe slightly cleaner compared to a complete tongue shoe.
The MP-90 shoe also features a interchangeable sole stiffness option, meaning you can change the amount of resistance that the middle of the insole provides you with. This is done by changing out the small removable portion of the insole on the underside, and replacing it with the provided stiffer material option.
The MP-90 exterior features a rubber material, designed to keep wear and tear off the high traffic areas of the shoe. They have venting on both sides of the shoe, to keep the smell out, and the air movement flowing.
Shimano's MP-90 shoe also features a Vibram out sole, designed for maximum grippage and stickage in any situation. This means when its time to drop a foot, you will be able to make the correct decision. The Shimano MP-90 shoes are a nice addition to anyone's riding attire, and I would highly suggest them for anyone who is consistently trying to find their footing.

Fugly!...wheres the colour and style!?
not everything is looks and fashion, the intern beauty is what counts here, besides its not like your gonna hook up some girls with these pair, thyre bike shoes for god sake, we should look more into the functional side f thing, other than style and all that white s!%t
there cool but all the money i have leftover from biking is for shoes and it = one pair so i need something i can wear to my grandmas funeral or the most important time of my life but still rip through the mud in
I bought a pair for some weeks ago, and they grip like glue!! But the quality ain't that good their not made of leather but some kind of plastic that does not take that much beating, and the size is very small, I'm usually using 43-44 but I have to use 45 on the mp90 shoes.
well i have had these shoes for the past 6 months or so, and in my opinion they were worth the buy. I have new atomlab pedals on my bike and the shoes stick to the pedals amazingly well. Even if they are ugly the high inside ankle gives a lot of suport and the leather has held up super well for the amount iv ridden them. And even if they are ugly, who cares they are a really good shoe and in my opinion better than the 5.10's
i think they look way better than the 5.10's.
even if they say the 5.10's ride great, i just can't get over how bad they look to me.

yeah just the old 5-10s look better. they always try to do too much with how they look, and they usually just look worse. which is the case with the new 5-10s
ive been using platform pedals and my vans skate shoes through wet and dry and im sticking with them

No, they aren't.
My opinion on the shoes is it will always be a step down from 5.10, I have the MP-66/56 whichever one isn't clipless compatible, the grip is great, but it doesn't last long, the bottom is nearly flat already. And this isn't from braking with my feet, this is just from my pedals eating them alive.

alright looking shoe, but I've always rocked vans skate shoes, and they truely do kick ass, cause of there gum soles! plus the price difference.
These are the ugliest friggin' shoes that I've ever seen. They look like old-school orthopedic shoes that agimp teacher of mine from middle school used to wear. I would not be caught dead in these no matter how "designed for performance" they are!!!
DC Manteca Mid 3. Sick traction. Wicked support. Sticks like glue to the pedals. Freeride wonders. Those shoes...hideous and haneous with a touch of grandpa.
Alright, so all posers go get vans or whatever shoes look the best according to you. The rest of us can try these and see if their any good to ride in instead of complaining about their looks. Its not a fashionshow up there in the mountains you know..
i agree with you 100 percent...people should let their riding speak for them, instead about worrying about having a color coordinated kit...having said that, i am thoroughly sold on nike 6.0's...i own a pair of five tens, and honostly im not a big fan...i like to be able to reposition my foot on the fly, and five tens dont allow this, because they are so sticky. i know everyone is gonna say that sam hill does it, but i find it hard to get proper body english on the bike if i cant rotate my foot slightly on the pedal while turning, or leaning, or jumping, or whatever...thats just my opinion...the nikes have just the right balance of grip, plus i like a thinner sole so i can grip the pedal with my foot, as opposed to riding on top and relying solely on the grip of the sole to keep you on...but everyone is different...find what works for you, but style should be the lowest on the list when it comes to riding shoes...but i actually think they look pretty good!
Yes Ill stick to vans I can get a new pair for a lot less and when they get tore up I can afford to buy a new pair, I don't think that these shoes will be worth it. VANS FOR LIFE even when I'm 80 and in a wheel chair Ill be sporting Vans so my feet don't fall off my wheelchair while I'm popping wheelies.
Posers because of different shoes? haha. Thats funny. If you got a bike and you ride it like its meant to be then its all good. And you can look like a grandpa if you want..but i'll get the same performance and have a lil style...
I think those look badass. Nice, simple and black. Should have showed a picture of the bottom though, thats realy the only important part of a riding shoe.
I have had a pair of these for a year and in my opinion they are way better looking that the 5-10 moon boots, but the vibram soles on the bottom dont stick nearly as well to the pedals and because of the small ridges on the bottom of teh vibram soles they get chewed up pretty good where you have pedal contact.
If the Vibram sole isn't slow rebound, high friction rubber like the 5.10 Impact, it's a waste of a shoe. And all you guys iwth your heads in your rears that think a Vans gum sole is even close to a 5.10 Stealth Rubber sole...keep them there so we don't have to smell them. Ignorance is bliss for you.

No SPD option? Til I watched the vid all the way through, I thought there'd be a cleat receptacle on the sole. Odd. I'd have considered them as commuter/campus shoes if they'd take a cleat.
They ARE pretty homely for FR/DH shoes. Each side profile suggests a totaly different shoe! And why did they even bother stitching MP90 into the side panel?

Yeah, but an ugly one. People will make the choice between an ugly one and a nice one. I´ll go and buy a pair of 5.10´s instead. They´re a little bit better looking (in my eye) and probably offer more grip.
i didnt realize there where so many metrosexual mountain bikers....are spandex sqeezing the "man" out of you?.
They look alright, but they seem poor on the looks, my marzocchi 5,10s look alot better, im interested in the sole grip they use, would like to see how it performs.

i ride my vans skate shoes. Sure their toast in 3 months, but they work great and their only like 20 bucks at khols...
I got these at the start of the season. Best investment of the year. Grip like balls. you just need some good balance while stopped as you need to pick your foot strait up off the pedal to readjust
I don't see why they have to tell you that your skate shoes are not good enough. This is complete propaganda. BMXers have been wearing skate/BMX shoes for a very, very long time on flats. You really don't have to buy 5.10s or whatever they're called or these shameless aim at ripping more of your hard-earned money out of your pocket. Like you don't have enough to buy, what with that HammerSchmidt thing hittin the shelves soon, I know I'll be poor.
they sux there old ones are better i have a pare of mp 90 and they just fell apart if you want top buy two sets a year maybe lol

These look good. I have the original all black 5.10's still because all the new ones are nasty.
WE RIDE ON DIRT. Its just going to look all brown/black anyways.

Honestly I see your point but having ridden with skate shoes and now 5.10's I would never go back. I only wear my 5.10's on mountain trips where I know it is going to be gnarly and muddy. In the muck you cannot beat them for traction. I just used mine last weekend to walk down a soaking wet rock face that was not possible to ride in the conditions. The shoes stuck, my friends skate shoes...not so much.

Got mine for £35 GBP, best granny shoes i've worn yet! -they stick to my DMR's betta then SPD (Stupid Pedal Device) and comfy... They r better than 5.10's becouse 5.10's r too wide and make clumsy big feet.. I would wear 5.10's on the Street an' Granny's Shims in the Jungle...
$144 bux? come on, I'll stick to my $40 Airwalk sk8 shoes I get for Christmas and Birthdays from my family
