Silver Star Mountain closing weekend-get up here!

Aug 26, 2008

It is with deep regret Silver Star Bike Park announces the impending death of Summer, 2008. Born on June 20, 2008 at 4:59 p.m., summer never truly got into full swing until Silver Star Bike Park opened June 26. While Summer's official demise will take place on September 22 at 3:40 p.m., for all intents and purposes, it's over Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. That's when Silver Star Bike Park closes for the season.

"You know it's coming, but it's always a sad day when it arrives," says Silver Star Bike Park director Cam Sorensen. "You work so hard, watch it grow from nothing but mud and two-by-fours, then the next thing you know it's over." While the end of the season is rapidly approaching, there's still time to get some runs under your tires. The recent spat of heavy rainfalls appear to be behind us, and the five-day forecast is calling for sunny skies, which should quickly dry out trails, leaving perfect conditions.

"August has turned out to be the month to ride. Every time we needed rain this month, Mother Nature has delivered. The trails are super-tacky and as good as they get," notes Sorensen. Unlike most bike parks, Silver Star does not sit back when it gets close to the end of the season. The trail crew have put in three more Technical Trail Features on LTG earlier this week. LTG is quickly becoming one of the more popular runs at Silver Star, thanks in large part to the new features being constantly added. For those of you that rode LTG last weekend, you probably saw the start of the crazy S-ride - a Silver Star Bike Park classic taken to the next level. The trail crew have put three of our famous wooden wall-rides together - linking it into a giant roller coater of a move. The finishing touches are also being put on a suspension bridge this week.

"There's nothing like riding a 45-foot long bridge that is moving under you," laughs Sorensen.

This Saturday also marks Suit Day at Silver Star. Riders with the coolest duds will have a chance to win great prizes. "I don't even own a suit," says Sorensen. "Looks like a trip to Value Village is in order."

it sucks so much how they close the mountain so early! why? it could easily stay open longer, what about just weekends? if the season is this short next year season passes should be alot cheaper! It was a great season but i wish it could be longer!

Unfortuanately they must take it down before snow and frost show up to get everything ready in time for the ski season, and we all know that when you wait for the last minute you allways run out of time.

Big line ups yesterday - 20-30 minute lift queue for a 10 minute ride but in good condition. Dry overnight and some wind this morning so it wil dry out some more today and nice and grippy.

If people feel so strongly about it - write a proper letter to the Management and try to get it to open on weekends until the end of Sep?
