Mt. Sima Slamfest, Whitehorse, Yukon

Jul 31, 2008

August 24th marks a big step in Yukon mountain biking as the first ever Yukon DH Race will be held at Mt. Sima, Whitehorse.

On Sunday August 24th Contagious Mountain Bike Club and Mount Sima Ski Hill are holding their premier Mountain Bike event, Sima Slamfest in Whitehorse, YT.

Slamfest is going to be a single run time trial event on a course that has been plotted to promote gravity fed riding for a variety of ages and skill levels. The course will run from top to bottom of the 1100 ft vertical ski hill. As this is the first time a mountain bike race has been held at Mount Sima it will serve as an example as to what kind of interest there is in Downhill Mountain biking in the Yukon, which will hopefully then lead to Mount Sima opening its doors to lift access riding in the very near future.

There will be different categories based on gender, bike type, age, etc... Prizes will be awarded to the top riders in each category, as well as door prizes for those who come out to support the event and cheer on the riders. All competitors must be members of the Contagious Mountain Bike Club (www.cmbc.wordpress.com), a $30 fee which covers insurance for the event as well as any other club events for the season.

Basically if you are interested in Mountain Biking of any kind and live in or near the Yukon, you should come out to this event and give it a try, it is for the greater good of the sport as well as the tourism industry in the area. A BBQ and Beer Gardens will be held during the event with proceeds going to Mount Sima.

For any further information and registration visit ICYCLE Sport (www.icyclesport.com) in person A.S.A.P.. If you or your company would like to sponsor or be a part of the event please contact the coordinator Justin Mullan @ 867-333-0175.

You guys are off topic. The message is that this is a grass roots event, something we should all get back behind to support our sport.

haha cool stuff, good to see that this race is actually going to happen after hearing about it in april! Maybe I'll borrow a friend's faith and enter.. or try it out on my cowan ds? haha. What area of the hill is the course being built on?

sharps - you have it exactly right! This race will help determine the level of support that we have here in the Yukon for DH and lift accessed riding in general. If the turn out is good, then that makes a powerful statement to open up the lift to riding for next summer. So come out and race, and bring your friends and family to watch!

knowler - exact location is top secret...in the pre-runs, you'll find out!

by the sounds of things, I think there is going to be an under 5" category (including all HT's) and an over 5" category. Hope to see you there! You can hang out with all us other guys riding Coves!

That's right, the 5" and under class will include HT's no matter what fork travel is.
