Stage 1 of the 2016 Singletrack 6 got under way this morning on a beautiful warm morning in Fernie, BC. Nearly 300 riders took to burly climbs and enjoyed the classic technical Fernie descents, which were in prime shape throughout the Ridgemont Trails network.

With a perfect amount of precipitation falling yesterday to settle the dust from a pretty dry few days prior, trails tacked up nicely but made some of the wood a wee bit slick first thing ! The course was maintained in partnership with the Fernie Trails Alliance which gave riders everything they were looking for and more. Conditions were fast and fun for the entire field.

Isreal's Rotem Ishay (Jamis) was the first of the men across the line and dominated the entire stage. Following him was a tight trio vying for the finish that included Frederic Gombert of France (Cyclotyres.com), Mathieu Belanger-Barrette (Pivot) of Quebec and Andreas Hartmann (Rocky Mountain & Craft) of Germany.

Kate Aardal (Ridley's Cycle) from Fort McMurray, riding in the solo open women event was the first lady across the line followed by American Sonya Looney and in 3rd place Kiwi Kim Hurst. Ya ladies!

Congrats to the winners of Stage 1.
