That is the funniest shit I have read in a while. So stupid. I was laughing my ass off awkwardly amongst a bunch of strangers thinking I was nuts. Stop the slow mo at about 6secs. That is a textbook scorpion.

Kelly, you had no business walking away from that, but I'm glad you did. You must be living right because someone is watching over you!
  • 6 0
 amen to that =)
  • 2 1
Truth! Seriously, it looks like he accepted his fate and didn't try to fight it...probably what allowed him to continue with his life. So gnarly!!
  • 21 1
Wait, I thought his rear wheel exploded too? Wasen't it completely demolished in the after pics?

If he had a camo front 24" Double track wheel with a 3.0" gazza for some extra suspension travel he would have rode away clean.
  • 7 0
I assume it blew up after going over the cliff at the end of the video
  • 3 0
Agree with laynehip. The extra weight would have slowed him down enough to hit the sweet spot on the landing too.
  • 3 1
Well, he blew up two separate bikes actually. I think the first time is the one you are thinking of where both wheels exploded during practice. This was the second time, second bike. He's a fucking animal.
  • 1 0
This was the first time actually. This is his crash in training and second crash was when he was flipping the canyon on the finals.
And yes, his rear wheel was also completely ruined after the crash on the video above. Check this:

 His wheels were like "NOPE!"

They were more like "BYE BYE CRUEL WORLD".
  • 8 0
Glad he didn't continue to slide afterwards and drop off that second ledge.
  • 7 1
how did he not snap his neck!?!?! it took sooo much impact! HE RODE THE NEXT DAY! seriously?? what a freak.
  • 6 1
 That wheel just disintegrated.
  • 4 0
I wonder if I crash a second one they will get the picture that I hate this bike hmm .....

When in a pickle, tuck for a triple

his back wheel dosent look that taco'd in this video, it must have gotten completely thrashed off that cliff cuz the original crash video and carnage pic tells a different story: www.pinkbike.com/photo/11457759
  • 1 1
The rear wheel taco'd from careening off the cliff at 0:07, though much better the bike than Kelly, similar to Robbie Bourden at the first Rampage in '01...
  • 2 2
he totaled two bikes guys.... one in practice, one in finals
  • 2 0
Yup, but we are talking about the first crash in practice. There was a video of the crash the day that it happened without slow mo and at the end it showed the bike wayyy more thrashed than it seemed in this video. So i assumed after the bike rolled down the cliff it got even more bashed up and bike4christ confirmed that that was what happened.
  • 1 3
Im pretty positive this article and video we are commenting on is from the event not the practice. Notice the spectators. That's why it tells a different story. I watched this crash from 100 feet away.
  • 2 1
Nope. here is the original video/article it was deff during practice runs, got the picture there also: www.pinkbike.com/news/red-bull-rampage-2014-mcgarrys-crash.html
  • 4 0
I still say that crash wouldn't have happened if his wheels hadnt folded.
  • 2 2
 Gwin's rim approves that.
  • 1 1
this is a nasty crash no doubt but i wonder how his back wheel came to be in such a state as it survived the impact from the landing but when you look at the pinkbike article on the crash from rampage his back wheel is completely destroyed! just a thought.
  • 1 1
I think it might be from the tumble off the cliff....because I'm not seeing it in the video either.
  • 11 7
 I would have landed it.
  • 15 0
 hold my beer?
  • 4 0
@MDRipper Consider it done, go fly my friend
  • 1 0
Looks like the wheel a'splodes before the fork bottoms (a little blurry at 0:01.5ish). Wouldn't've thought that would happen.
  • 2 0
Yep, play it at 0.25 speed and you can see the front rim folds almost immediately on contact, which then (as it collapses) effectively slows down the front of the bike better than any brake ever could. Makes you think McGarry might have ridden it out - if the wheel held up.
  • 7 1
Yeah, the wheel taco'd befor the forks compressed, which means that the head angle was so slack that combined with the rear wheel first landing, the front wheel pushed the forks forward instead of compressing the travel. So in the war between the marzocchi and the front wheel, the wheel lost.
  • 1 1
That's why USD forks will rule the world, when stiffness won't be a drawback anymore.
  • 3 0
 oooohhh look, a penny!!!!

17 years ago I broke my spine doing something like that Frown . I was lucky a little, after couple weekes at hospital I can still walking.

So Kelly was very lucky, good for him Smile .
  • 2 0
Yes, it may be f*kin fantiastic, but no, your Lefty wouldn't have made that landing either!!
  • 1 0
this stuff is off the hook but, there's a slight worry that someone's gonna not walk away from all this show-boatin' some day.
  • 2 0
Really glad he walked away from that.
  • 1 0
If you slow it rite down he scorpians and neely snaps his neck bloody brutal landing
  • 2 0

keep pressing 2 when you watch the video. Ultimate seat wedgie.
  • 1 0
i think that wedgie saved him a fair bit, it caught him and then slowed him down
  • 1 0
I'm guessing his rim company won't be making a commercial out of that

To be fair to the guy he did get some pretty rad angles.
  • 1 0
luckily he used his face to reduce most of the impact.
  • 1 0
Bet he could have rode it out if he'd been clipped in Wink
