NEW THIS SEASON

The 2016 season is just around the corner and opening day on May 20 will be the start of Whistler Mountain Bike Park’s 18th season. Below are a few highlights of what’s in store:

Crank It Up
We were all wondering what is up with Crank It Up last year and when Crank It Up More was going to be finished. Well, we had a super dry summer last year which didn't help with new trail builds. We are expecting to get on it early and hope to have the new Crank It Up section built and ready by the end of June. Stay tuned for more updates to come throughout the year.

GMC Pumptrack
Ride it or rail it - the GMC Pumptrack distills riding to its base elements: bike handling, cornering and pumping terrain. Located at the Whistler Village Gondola midstation, these sculpted piles of dirt will take your riding to the next level. Take a few laps to warm up in the morning, session it with your crew or just pop in to give it a try-it's time to get your pump on.

Raven's Nest
Perched at the top of the top of the Creekside Gondola, Raven’s Nest will open this summer to serve hungry park riders. A selection of hot food and cold drinks will be available to enjoy on the sunny valley facing patio. Hours and dates of operation TBD.

CREEKSIDE UPDATES

Creekside Zone Open in June
With the unveil of the new Creekside Zone with Dusty's DH and BC's Trail last season, the Creekside Gondola is now a part of the regular lift system in 2016 delivering riders up Whistler Mountain. You can count on it to be spinning at the same time Garbanzo runs which is from June 18 - Sept 5 daily and then weekends only from Sept 6-18 from 10am-5pm.

Creekside Trail Expansion Plans
If the addition of Dusty's DH and the Creekside Zone was too tantalizing, don't worry – we aren't even close to done yet. The Whistler Blackcomb Renaissance marks the beginning of a new chapter in the world-class resort's history, focusing on creating a true year-round experience. What does that mean for Bike Park riders? The Renaissance will kick off a multi-year expansion creating a trail network for all riding abilities in the Creekside area. Plans include over 50 KM on new trails, making the most of the rugged and diverse terrain the Creekside Zone has to offer. Stay tuned at the Renaissance site for more details as they unfold...
Renaissance investment is subject to satisfaction of a number of conditions, including municipal and provincial government approvals, as well as the successful renegotiation and extension of Whistler Blackcomb’s Master Development Agreements and Master Plans, the completion of consultations with the Squamish and Lilâwat First Nations and finalization of a proposed business partnership with those First Nations.

You should clarify that one berm on A line looked like that for about 2 minutes
  • 10 0
I can't give you props for that enough.
  • 5 0
 Seriously
  • 2 1
Haha, I can't even work out which one it is as it looks far too good. The one a couple after rock drop right?
  • 9 0
@Barbour1994: it looks like the rock drop ride around
  • 1 0
@seankc: yes, that's definitely it! Good one
  • 1 0
 2 minutes if you're lucky

 preach.

It may be splitting hairs, but I really wish that they'd bring back the Triple Play pass. Lower entry fee, and discounts on day passes afterward. More flexibility for working stiffs in the PNWs, and young dads like myself. Being a hundred dollars cheaper, it had a lower price and still allowed affordability and flexibility at the same time.
  • 6 0
Accidentally negged you but fully agree.
  • 2 0
well the 5 and 10 day passes serve a similar function, where u get discounts on next time one day purchases after fulfilling the allotted 5 days.
  • 21 5
Soon it will be as expensive as skiing :-\
  • 23 1
Fortunately my snowboards are a lot cheaper than my bikes.
  • 3 0
It's still a long way off from the ridiculous two grand they charge for a winter season pass.
  • 18 8
Come on... dont complain about prices, if your lucky enough to live nearby be happy as hell! I'd pay a lot more for a seasons pass there if I had too....
  • 18 1
Sssshhhhh! They can't know we'd be willing to pay more!
  • 3 5
 Idiot...
  • 4 3
some people live near by and pedal to better trails or shuttle to stay away from crowds and line ups
  • 11 3
They are not expensive compared to New Zealand queenstown/Rotorua skyline gondola bike parks it's $80 a day, for a 3 day pass is $369 so whistler at $450 for 10 days is over half the price and the exchange rate is pretty much the same and there is 4 times as many trails to ride in whistler than the NZ bike parks. I'm from NZ but live in aussie sure the flight over is only 3.5 hours and $1000 cheaper than going to canada but everything is slightly cheaper in Canada for everything else, I just did 7 days in Queenstown it was fun but it's not calling me back like whistler dose every year.
  • 13 0
It's $80 for one day, and $369 for 3 days? Something's not right at Skyline.
  • 1 0
Very sorry i was wrong its $199 for 3 days and $85 for a day i was thinking of the 50 run pass for $399. On average you can do 10+ runs a day so its far better off getting 2 3 day passes.
  • 12 1
Is that in Canadian Pesos or USD?
  • 4 0
 Of course it's in Canadian...
  • 7 0
Im happy to part with my pasos for the ride of a lifetime in September. Can't freakin wait
  • 4 0
I wish they would bring back the triple play. It was perfect for our crew that is only able to make it up for a weekend once a year.
  • 6 0
Got my pass last month, cant wait !!!!!!
  • 1 0
me too im so stocked for the new mountain bike season
  • 4 0
isnt it like $72/ Day? If so, and you live close enough, thats a bargain. Our Angel Fire early bird is $250. Almost worth it.
  • 1 0
I believe day -tickets are only $52.
  • 1 0
OMG...I miss Angel a Fire so much!
  • 5 0
You young kids are lucky if you can spend all summer riding Whistler, and get off my lawn damn it!
  • 1 0
Is there a late season pass that goes on sale? Thought I saw one last year from Sept till end of season for $300 or something like that. Also how is it up there around end of sept into oct? Planning a trip and trying to avoid summer crowds if possible.
  • 3 0
I always go at the end of the season and much prefer it to July or August. Cooler temps and lesser crowds but the lifts aren't open as late and sometimes the trails are pretty beat up by the end of summer. Rain usually moves back in to the NW by October.
  • 1 0
 @oldenglish: Thanks! What's rain though?
  • 6 0
@weezyb: Thanks for the question! You're right, the pass does go on sale later in the season. Keep an eye on this page for updates on pricing as the season progresses: bike.whistlerblackcomb.com/tickets-passes/passes

As for the conditions in the fall - they're awesome! But shh, don't tell anyone. Check out our Fall Lines series from last season to get some visuals on what you can expect: www.pinkbike.com/u/whistlermountainbikepark/blog

@WhistlerMountainBikePark: Right on, thanks for the reply
  • 6 3
Jesus the passes are getting pricy. I think my early bird pass in 2012 was $450.
  • 11 1
But when you are in whistler riding the best trails in the world, it doesn't seem to be so expensive Wink
  • 2 0
@ibishreddin: Very true. Having ridden there a few days in 2009 I can say that it absolutely smashes anything else in the world. I can't imagine the amount of work put into the trails, so the price isn't yet exorbitant. Count yourself lucky that you can ride there at all!
  • 2 0
With the exception of the Season Pass where it says "buddy day" I believe they meant "bonus day"
  • 2 0
@j-rawk: For the season pass we really do mean Buddy Day! Because a season pass gives you unlimited riding, we are including a day pass for one of your friends if you purchase before May 22. Check out our information page for more details: bike.whistlerblackcomb.com/tickets-passes/passes
  • 1 0
@WhistlerMountainBikePark: you misunderstood my comment. You listed free buddy days with 5 and 10 day passes rather than bonus day. A typo I believe
  • 4 0
 YES!
  • 4 3
Shit if these morons elect douchebag trump in this county I'll be moving to whistler.. Temporary citizen pass isn't too expensive
  • 3 1
Whistler is for Rich Folks! Thank god we only have $300 here
  • 2 1
wow that is a lot of money !!! \i see not only winter ski tickets got more expensive.. Smile
  • 2 0
just wish the GBP hadnt fallen as much in the last 3 months :-(
  • 2 0
True I know. Last year I was getting $2.02-£1 which was pretty amazing. Although back in 2010 we were only getting $1.40-£1.
It still hasn't stopped me from booking flights again for September. Wink

Taking into consideration crowds, line-ups, trails conditions, etc; what would be the best time of the summer to travel to Whistler to enjoy a 10 day pass ?
  • 2 2
Ten straight days in Whistler? Dude. Don't bother making return plans.

Ten days in Whistler U MUST BE DOING JOAKSBRO SRSLY
  • 1 2
@owl-X: "to travel to Whistler to enjoy a 10 day pass". How the hell does that imply 10 straight days ? I'm thinking about spending two weeks at least, 20 days at most in the village, and look forward to get 10 days of riding out of it.
  • 2 2
@Bragelonne: OH WHAT? TWENTY DAYS IN WHISTLER WILLAGE? R.I.P. BRAGELONG OMG!
  • 2 1
@owl-X: Did you forget to take your Ritalin this morning ?
  • 3 6
@Bragelonne: WHISTLER IS A COKE TOWN.
  • 2 0
I've been throughout the summer, any time is good really. Only things I'd suggest is to avoid Crankworx and riding weekends, other than that you are good to go! Also keep in mind, not everything is open before mid/end of June. If I had to pick, I guess my favorite time would be early July!
  • 1 0
As soon as they open the Garbo Zone
  • 1 0
144 days open!!! Awesome! Chatel is open for 76 days this summer...about average for the PDS area.
  • 1 0
Nope! I live on the island and Mt Washington is reopening!
  • 1 0
Absolutely - that is great news!!!!
  • 1 1
jut for info, what are the percentages of sales of these different passes ? The unlimited one is a dream !
  • 2 2
 Dare to dream...
