A bit of a warning, part two of this three part series gets a little gory as the Smith team pushes through the final stages of the Andes Pacifico Enduro race. A blind course makes it an even playing field, but also a game of question on how hard to push yourself around every turn. “When you’re in the gate, you have to have a clear mind or you’ll be the next one to go down…”

Some say a great day is a state of mind. To us, Great days are what reinvigorate our passion for life outside walls. To celebrate Smith’s 50 years of outdoor adventure we are documenting our brand ambassadors and what keeps them pushing the limits; because at Smith, we make the great days better…

Smith Optics takes you to Chile for a few “Great Days”

I use to not wear padding at all except a helmet lol having studded pedals and taking it to the shin hurt and bled like a bitch.

Go to a surplus store or an online site and get a pressure bandage. Its the same thing the soldiers carry. Small package will easily stuff into your Camelbak pouch. They are dirt cheap. They will stop the bleeding. You and your buddies should always have one. If your friends gets hurt. Use his bandage on him. Save yours for yourself.

On my local trails we have to carry rattlesnake bite antidote and some sort of pressure string

I'd feel pretty damn lucky to ride with her; that's for sure. Anyone else notice that she had to ride back UP the trail to help him after dusting him on the trail?!

Yet another reason to stop the "random babe sighting" BS that we keep seeing on PB. As a Dad of two girls who ride fast, I hate that stuff.

Get used to it! It's the way it is! Nothing wrong as long as nobody is rude. Take it ease lol

That knee looked nasty man. Thats exactly why i wear full knee/shin guards still... Who cares if your little knee pads look cooler, full shin guards would have saved you there.. Hope you heal up soon

Ok is it just me or did he sound like an eight year old wailing before his girl showed up? But he had time to do selfie-video ? Myself I'd be swearing at the terrain like a motha....... and opening up my own first aid kit.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any comparisons to an "arrow to the knee"
  • 5 2
That's why we have to wear protection, elbow pads knee-shin guards, because you never know what's out there.
  • 6 0
I know that out there is 40°c in the shade, while they have to pedal.
Probably not ideal to wear the full package of protection in those conditions
  • 2 0
Yeah, that's a tough one. In the heat on these long enduro rides do you risk losing concentration and stamina because your boiling inside your suit of armor, or do you wear minimal protection and rely more on maintaining your concentration and steeze? Each to their own I guess. That's one reason I like cool weather riding so much more than in the heat of the summer.

Getting injured sucks but I guess it comes with the territory of going fast. Get well, Joey. Thanks for the video smith optics

My thumb came out of the socket once..drag the bike to the side and lay there for a bit. Something/someone told me to just push it back in. So I did, and wow works like a charm. Get well soon brotha..much love and respect.
