^^ No if you look at the split times hill was up by over a second by that point i wouldn't go by th video it's been cut and put together, the times don't lie
Hill was up when Smith had his moment by around 2s - fact Looking at the times and how they came through that section it did not cost Stevie much if any time. Stevie went in on the faster, more risky middle line, Hill went for the safer but slower right line. Hill lost time at the top of the rock due to this, Stevie at the bottom due to the risk not paying off for him. Hill was already 2s up at this point, as he was in the wooded section also, which is clear to see in the video. Bottom line is that Hill won and nobody can take that away from him (like he cares though what we say haha).
Does it not occur to anyone that Smith might have been on for a faster bottom sector had he not slipped the pedal like he did? He might have pulled back the time that Hill got on him at the top.
@ benplatt - does it not occur to you that minnaar would have won if he got off the brakes slightly more on a couple of corners? or nathan rennie would have won if he was actually competing and had a sick run? or rob warner may have won if he wasn't years into retirement? etc, etc??
I remember Steve saying in SEASONS more than 3 years ago, "It would be cool to be on the podium with Steve Peat and Sam Hill." or something like that and just look where he is now. Well done Stevie!
Majorly good job from Stevie and it takes balls to get right back on it an to keep giving it the beans after such a close call from a nasty crash , fantastic job indeed !!
what if what if... Stevie's mistake didn't cost him the win for sure, just put him back a little bit more by I don't know, 1.5 of a sec? awesome riding from him and from Sam tho and I really don't know for who I'm happy more!
Bit dubious that video. It implies that Stevie was up except for the crash, but the two runs aren't actually synchronised, if you compare the clocks when they are on screen for both riders they don't match!
yeah right ... for example: hill was 1.59 seconds up (orso) at the last split ... but in the video smith comes earlier to the split than sam ... in reality smith was back even before the mistake ... i think without the mistake he wouldn't have been 1.59 sek faster than hill from the last split to the finish ... in my opinion hills run was to solid in the last section to go that much faster ....... bad sync in that vid :/
I like the way they have put the video together.... cause debate as it shows them in the same section, Smith slightly ahead of Hill in every one, but in fact he was behind in real time in every one.
the side by side video is a great idea! But why where the videos edit in a way that sam hill's time is 2 sec behind the time of smith ????? You can see it when the split times are comin up. With this editing you can't see how far hill is in front of smith. Anyway, it just sucks that FREEcaster wasn't showing it for FREE ! Thanks to pinkbike for showing the online results so I was able to follow it there.
Damn it seems like everyone is freaking out with they're "if this would of happened" all because this seasons top contenders got smoked and Sam won on a comeback, thats what I think anyway. Stevie may have won but, unlikely. If bigfoot jumped out and whopped you with a tree branch in the middle of the best run of your life, you may get a re-run if your lucky and thats the end of it, and you could never duplicate that run on short notice, too f*ckin bad.
The times don't lie, what happened is slated, Hill wins.
Who cares about almost. Steve is the fastest Canadian ever so far, he just proved it. And he's not done yet. I'm Canadian and I'll just wait for Steve to win in the future. He will - he's on his way, cutting his teeth.
Stevie definitely had some home advantage/luck with the weather towards the end of the race. It's great that he didn't come off his bike. I'm so stoked for him to get a podium in the worlds on home soil! He was so close winning! Some day soon!
i hope that stevie shows some more of his riding next season, because this guy is moving from race to race and the results are just appearing. great world champs and great world cup, nice year for all!!!
shut up about who would have one if he didn't loose the pedals, in reality we don't know, he may have still been runner up or he may have just dominated the last bit and won, no way to know who would have won, stfu
it annoys me when people say if so and so didnt stack they would of won but its all apart of putting together a run and if u stack or mess up its still the same as not been fast enough.
THis world´s it shows what it rules in this sport for get a good result in most of the tracks. Racing around out your home for too long makes you loose fitness and motivation and doesn´t allows you to train your fitness at 100%. Sam probably train as hell on pedals when he couldn´t ride the DHbike cause the injurie, so he was on his shape. Technique is fast recovered for those riders once you got a level, and those flat riders can compensate a litle bit the loosing on accelerating the bike on technichall bits taking a litle bit more risk than clipped riders.
put together by a Canadian by any chance? hill was up without the slip and it didn't cost that much time, the fact is smith was the last guy with good conditions, Hill rode in worse and beat him
u must see that stevie after falling he has to get the velocity back and there os list some time what it matters is the result and hill was the winner..
Hill had a dirty wet track, the others a clean wet track! Who knows what might have been. What if Hill had not crashed at Fort Bill..... what if! In Hills interview on here he claims he was trying to jump a rock section when he crashed at the Bill then, hit a tree..... there were no rocks where he crashed! (my pal took the photo that was everywhere on the net of his bike). So what really happened? Brake failure?
as I said, my pal saw it, he took the photo. He said it was not rim failure.
I heard there was a clue in other bikes and people changing back to Code levers.
What are you on about man, conspiracy? Haha. The reason they are running full codes now is because they are completely revamped and much lighter and pimper.
Don't get me wrong, I'd wear nothing but a speedo if it meant i could ride like him, but it seems odd they don't use the same jerseys as the BMX guys like all the other countries do.

He might have pulled back the time that Hill got on him at the top.
Awesome riding from both guys!

anyone know where to buy them?
