Spank Industries

Spank Emerald collection
The Spank Spike lineup is now available in this emerald green color option.

Riders looking for components to match the DVO Emerald fork won't need to look any further than Spank's latest color option for their Spike pedals, stem, and handlebars. Spank also had an adjustable version of their direct mount stem on display, with two mounting positions that allow for either 50 or 55mm of extension. Two aluminum risers are included that let riders gain 5mm more height if they wish, bringing the stem's 25mm of rise up to 30mm. Spank gave us a sneak peak of a prototype version of the stem that can be run in either the 25 or 30mm position. We're not yet at liberty to divulge how they accomplished such low numbers, but those lengths will make it one of the shortest multi-position direct mount stems on the market. The 50/55mm version weights in at a claimed 135 grams, and retails for $75 USD.

Spank Oozy Pedal
The new Oozy flat pedal measures only 12mm thick and weights in at 350 grams.

Spank's new Oozy pedal borrows many of the design highlights of the popular Spike pedal, but is intended for trail and all-mountain usage and weighs in at 350 grams compared to the Spike's 410 gram weight. A new mold and additional machining allowed Spank to achieve this weigh savings on the 12mm thick pedal. Like the Spike, the Oozy rotates on an oversized cartridge bearing closest to the crank arm, and then uses a bushing at the other end of the spindle. The standard version sells for $149 USD, but riders looking for even further weight savings can purchase a titanium axle upgrade kit for $75 from any Spank dealer. This upgrade drops the pedals' weight down to 300 grams. With six available colors, there should be an option to match just about any bike out there.

DMR Bikes

DMR Vault V12
DMR's V12 pedal get a slight makeover after well over a decade of service.

After maintaining the same design for nearly 15 years, 2014 sees DMR's venerable V12 pedal get an upgrade in the form of a larger platform and lower profile shape. Measuring in at 100mm long, 95mm wide and 16mm high, the pedal has 10 replaceable pins on each side and weighs in at 420 grams. MSRP: $79.95 USD. A magnesium version is also available, which drops the weight down to 350 grams, but raises the price to $89.95 USD.

DMR Vault Mag Superlight

The Vault Mag Superlight offers a large platform at a low weight.

DMR also had their Vault Mag Superlight on display, which they claim is the world's lightest large platform flat pedal. The CNC'd magnesium platform measures in at 105 X 105mm and 17mm thick, and by using a titanium spindle DMR has brought the weight of the pedals down to 290 grams. MSRP: £199.99

Atomlab

Atomlab 102 hub
Atomlab's Pimplite102 hub.

As the name implies, Atomlab's new Pimplite 102 hub has 102 points of engagement for extra quick acceleration when a rider stomps on the pedals. The 6061 aluminum hub shell houses sealed cartridge bearings, and axles are available that allow the hub to be run with either 135, 142, or 150mm spacing. The hub can also be configured to work with 11, 8-10, or single speed set up. MSRP is $289.99 USD, and they are expected to be available this spring.

  • 6 2
the magnesium peddles are rather pricey which is a shame as they look so sick
  • 5 3
Those green pedals would look nice on a nice stealth black bike.
  • 22 2
would defeat the purpose of a stealth bike no?
  • 3 1
Spank ... they kill it with pedal .. way to go!
  • 1 0
 that green is so nice
  • 7 2
Its cool to have another high poe hub on offer, but changing just the axle for 135/150 seems like kind of a chintzy way of doing it, flange width is gonna be narrower than it could for a 150 setup.. Maybe thats just me though?
  • 7 1
The 150mm is a separate hub. The 135mm is convertible to 142mm.
  • 2 0
Was ASSuming. Thanks for the clarification my man!
  • 7 0
DMR Blk/gld will be my next pair Smile
  • 1 0
I'm glad they finally improved design of their pedals. Old ones looked pretty shitty.
  • 2 0
290 grams at $250 plus for the DMR? The Spanks look good. I like the new Race Face also. I'm trying to spend less than $85 for flats that weigh less than 350g... any ideas? If i could, i'd get the Twenty6 Predator, big bucks, but sub 300g. yummy
  • 2 0
Deadtime...yes the industry is awash in resin pedals now with replaceable pins that are really good quality. Such as Deity Compounds @ 340grams. All color options and being resin are a little more forgiving if you're running rigid DJ/Street even DH also at under $65.00 you really can't beat them for budget builds.
  • 9 6
 Wow thank you spank!
I always wished to finally have the option on buying a pair of 300g pedals for only 224$.
  • 11 1
You can buy 5 pairs of nukeproof electron. So you have a stock of spare part in case of emergency.
  • 12 5
Note to myself: next time writing a sarcastic comment on pinkbike, mark it as such.
  • 8 0
Ah...it sounded like he was backing up your comment.
  • 1 0
electrons dont need spares. my mate has run them for about 4 years now and the bearings are like new and as theyre plastic the scratches dont show
  • 5 1
I want 1 of everything, and 2 of the good stuff!
  • 6 6
Canfield brothers have the lightest chromo axle mag body:

Crampon Magnesium:
280 grams
Thin 6mm front impact edges
106mm wide x 106mm platforms
Painted finish
DU bushings
Chromoly axle
Replaceable dual sided pins, (allen key on both sides)
Patented convex shape
Take that dmr/tisprings
  • 7 4
First off, it's way more expensive. Secondly, convex pedals suck. Like really bad. You have to run shin slicing pins to get grip over the pedal, much less the feeling of having your shoes bent over an axle isnt exactly confidence-inspiring according to most of the reviewers (myself included) of the crampons or the azonic flat irons. Granted, that is slightly personal.

Ti-springs option, aka rebranded ht ae03, is machined aluminum...25-ish grams heavier per pedal.

Dmr? Not as thin, but much cheaper...90$ msrp for 350 grams? Can't argue there.

There's plenty of reasons why so few people run crampons....
  • 1 1
Canfields were the best riding and gripiest flats I've ever used. Unfortunately the bushes did not last very long for me and I also bent one pedal on a really bad case. I never worked out how to get the old bushes out either which was frustrating.
  • 1 2
You sacrify some strenght for the weight, but the chromo axle will give me more confidence that a ti, i had some ti axles snap on me
  • 4 3
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!!! ............. £200 for some pedals ? Nukeproof do better for £50 !!! Cycling manufacturers are beginning to treat us like the UK car industry !!!! f*cking con artists !!!
  • 1 0
he's right you know. nukeproof pedals are the shit. i have the special edition neutrons, they were £45 and they have lasted me for a long time and will continue to last in all their blue might
  • 1 1
Superstar sell the pedal but without the nukeproof logo for alot less so you can get better pedals for even cheaper.
  • 1 0
yeah they are the same body but the have differen bearings and the bearings are the best bits of nukeproof pedals and my mate has had some electrons for 3years hard riding and the bearings are still like butter
  • 1 0
Ha those are the same calalogue item all these other brands are selling for 4x the price
  • 4 2
I'll take my straitline Amps over those any day. Chromoly spindle and a ten minute rebuilt? Yes please.
  • 1 0
I've blown through 5 atomlab hubs in the past year and they keep telling me its the way I ride and not their problem. Pieces of scheitt. Don't ever buy them.
  • 2 2
Daaarn can't someone make me a 60mm DM stem ? Frown

Oh and Novyparts has some 15 and 30mm DM stems, Mondraker with OnOff has a 10mm version, Straitline makes a 28mm one , so Spank will add up to the list I guess.
  • 1 0
That's the one I have, but it's like the only model I could find ... Wanted to get hold of an old Burgtec in 60mm but not available any longer ...
  • 1 0
i picked up a second hand burgtec 60mm from pinkbike...try e-bay they appear quite often.. or e-mail Burgtec i bet they have one knocking around they can sell you..
  • 1 0
I've exchanged with Burgtec, and they don't have any left, and they don't plan on making more (the last ones were sent to the Syndicate ^^)

I've checked ebay and pinkbike, haven't found one yet but I'll keep looking.

raceface atlas DM also runs 35mm when run upright, works great with a long top tube.
  • 4 0
 Lime green love.
  • 3 0
 Just bought new pedals, shit.
  • 2 0
Me too. Just got a set of Spank Spikes.
  • 2 1
I like how the V12's now just seem to be a cast version of the Vaults. Similar size and shape but a much cheaper method of manufacture.
  • 4 1
Canfield ultimates are the way to go!
  • 3 0
 Straitline Defactos any day.
  • 2 1
all this shit still looks the same....oh woo a slightly different green color that's been available on other brands for a year or two....
  • 2 1
always a little disappointed to see new pedals and stems all the time. they are so boring, i like technical machinery type stuff
  • 1 0
£200 for pedals? You can get Fly Ruben metals for half that and they're far superior and actually look nice.
  • 7 5
I'll take a pair of straitline pedals over these any day!
  • 2 0
£199 for pedals . Do they come with a shrine !
  • 1 0
dammit I just ordered a pair of spank pedals 3 days ago!!!!! i would have gotten those green ones for sure
  • 2 0
Blackspire are just as good! For $115.00.
  • 1 0
"let riders gain 5mm more height if they wish, bringing the stem's 25mm of rise up to 27mm" because math.
  • 1 0
the dmr v pedals have been needing a make over for years!
  • 3 2
sooooooo convinient! The pricing is fucking ridiculous!
  • 2 0
 Ht meo3t 218grams
  • 1 0
Yeah DMR should have looked that one up before making that claim. HT has them beat buy a lot. Those things are so light and bombproof.
  • 1 0
Get your team green parts that hope fans love! win
  • 1 0
That Spank stuff with an Emerald fork might be tight no?
  • 4 4
Hate the emerald green, reminds me of Shrek
  • 15 1
I love the emerald green though. reminds me of Shrek.
  • 2 1
Shrek is love, Shrek is life
  • 5 8
DMR need to do some research, there are loads of pedals with large platforms that come in around and under that weight, many of which dont use Ti spindles or Mag bodies....retarded claim!
  • 15 3
But can guarantee they offer nothing like the grip of those Vaults. Best pedals out by a long shot.
  • 3 0
I don't like my vaults in comparison to my old v12 mags.
  • 3 2
Nothing beats ti-springs.com in terms of weight/price/performance, lighter then dmr, cheaper and basically same platform size! (like 5mm in it on one side)
  • 3 1
Completely agree, £55 for a set of Ti-Spindle Pedals? BARGAIN.
  • 2 0
 wow those are nuts
  • 3 0
@tangeroo you cant have tried many pedals if you think the vaults are the best on the market. There are many options out there that are cheaper/better grip/stronger. Just look around and you will see why I said that DMR's claim is stupid...and if you ignore price there are many pedals that come in lighter too. Point1, Syntace, 26....etc etc etc.
  • 1 0
I have both the vaults and the spank spikes and honestly they're both wicked grip wise, but I prefer the spikes they just feel better
  • 1 0
 Nothing enduro specific?
