Now Sunline say that the diamond/knurled pattern is for your palm. Personally I twist the raised waffle part to locate directly under my knuckles. This ensures maximum grip, especially in the wet and muddy conditions we are now surrounded by and makes for a softer ride.

All sounds great? Yes until that end cap rips out in a crash. The ends are non replaceable, ie. you can't buy them as spares. How easy do they come off? Not in your hand to be fair but they could do with finding a way to make the end caps more secure. The problem is the grub screw, it screws into the plastic collar.

I found them uncomfortable, a huge pain to get on the bars (had to remove the collar and insert a piece of cardboard instead, as the grips were too tight even with grubs removed), they damaged the paint on the bars and they wore down pretty badly after 3 rides.

i thought they were pretty comfortable, but they wore out super quick and the lock-on and bar end design could've been better
most of the ones ive seen all the bar ends are missing is this just a fluke or are people having problems with them.

my mate runs these and i run the "S" logo ones (with the big raised S's not the smooth ones) find both really grippy and very comfortable, only very slight signs of wear after 2 - 3 months of riding every weekend and after work some days, really impressed and will be buying again, my bar end did fall off once so i undid the grub screw, pushed the end back on and did the screw up again and it held, hope this helps :-)
do you think si that they are a better grip than the Ruffian Lock-On grips from odi? as my ruffians are getting thin.. but i have always gone for these since going lock-on..
No, they are not better than ODI Ruffian Lock On grips. They have a major flaw - the method of locking Sunline grips is by turning a grub screw in against the bar which has the potential or squashing the bar if too much pressure is applied. The ODI system with the lock on collar is far superior.
I doubt very much that you can turn a 2.5 mm grub screw hard enough to crush handle bars , surely it would round the hex head off first
Honestly - the screw HAS bent in my bar end. As the original article stated, the ends rip off in crashes. I thought the first time it was a fluke, but after loosing the end cap on my second set, I wont be buying another set. Now dont get me wrong, they feel and look great. But there are more secure grips.
veggiemaster is right. I also had two pairs of these grips. The bar won't bent if its a nontapered. But most DH-Bars are getting pretty thin outside so its quite easy to bend it there.
Also if you had ripped the barend once in a crash it won't stay on the grip because the plastic gets damaged. By far the thick version were the most comfy grip I ever used but on the endcap they need to change something!

During installation the screw made a dent into the end of the bar. So far no problem. But after a crash the plastic between the screw and the bar ripped of and so I had to turn the barend to avoid screw on bar contact. As you can guess if you crash a couple of times theres not much left where you can screw the bar end on.
Yup, even after properly installing a fresh set, it WILL make a small dent into your bar even through the plastic sheath. And like grinsekater said, after a crash or two and ripping the ends off, you've got NOTHING to secure the bar ends to. A set screw hex head will not round before it bends the end of the bar, install a pair and tighten the screw down too much and you'll find out real quick.
Anyone know how gummy these things are from experience? I like soft gummy grips, but I go through them like Rosie O'Donnell at an all you can eat buffet. Do these last from your personal experience?
yes, sunline grips are by far the best ive ever used, i ride alot (full season racing), and yeah they wear, but u never get down to the plastic so it doesnt matter, and they are always "gummy" unlike other grips ive used which tend to get harder and uncomfy.

agree with nosh, but stryke the thicks are horrible, WAY to fat, cant wrap ya hand round and actually get a propper grip, S logo's are the best ones by miles
no not really, take medium/large gloves, i can hold on to them i just cant get a comfortable grip that would make me wanna do a drop off or something but everyones different and at least sunline give the thick and thin options

I took these off my bike two days ago cuz theyve worn out.. theyve lasted a good 2 years of riding at least once or twice a week
I personally had the waffles under my knuckles and loved them.. great grip.
I've had plenty of crashes and a fair few occasion when my bar ends have clipped trees and theyve never come off. The bolts in them are easy to ruin though so be careful when installing them.
I havnt bought another pair but opted for the ODI Yeti special edition grips.

I dont care for these grips, they wore out really quick, ill fit on the bars, starting coming loose and "shifting" around after a few weeks of hard riding. Ill stick with my oury's thankyou.
Ummm...yeah...I've been running those grips since the day they became available, prob going on 20+ sets now, and I'm no pro(meaning I crash like everyone else) and I've never even had an end cap come loose. EVER.

20 pairs? I ride every day and even harder on most days. I ride to work and to play! DH, FR, Trials, Street, Vert ramps, Enduro and Cross Country! Do you ride more than me? Are you a professional who trains every day? It seems nearly impossible to imagine going through 20 pairs of grips since the beginning of my riding days! And that was a while ago. I would never by grips that did not last long. Long live the Ruffian ODI with collar clamps!

Haha, nope, I've only worn out maybe...4 sets? And once they start to go, they really go. But it takes quite awhile to get there.
But I have 4 bikes right now, and prob been through 6 others since I started running Sunline grips. I buy and sell, buy and sell, and some go with. And even the old worn out ones I still have, for "emergency use...?" I just went through 2 sets on my ECD trying out different paint colors and now have the lime green ones arriving any day now as I just stripped my bike again for paint.
But yeah, I bet I've had 20 sets of Sunline grips, STRONGLY prefer the half-waffles, and I've never had bar end issues. When it breaks the plastic, tighten the setscrew! No biggie.

i got a pair like that but there're black and i changed those bar cap for fireeye bar cap and i think its super grippy and it has perfect size
I would say the Oury Lockon grips are a better fit for larger hands. They also offer better cushion. Thats not to say anything bad about these as they are a nice grip that is a nice fit for some.
I had these in black and ate it real hard in a skate park. The end cap came off and ripped a chunk out of my bars. I also thought they wore very quickly as well
I love Sunline grips. Nice grip for the dry or the wet. I have had the cap come off, but to be fair I took a nasty tumble which shoved the end of my handlebars 6 inches into the ground. So when I noticed I lost the cap, I walked back up the race course and searched the dirt around where I crashed and sure enough there it was, dirty but in perfect condition. One thing I will say, is that these are probably not a great idea for carbon bars, since the screws put a lot of pressure over a tiny area that could flaw the carbon at the end of the bars. All in all I love the waffle grips but I love the diamond pattern more.
this has been the grip design of choice for moto guys for years, it's a proven design and I'll be buyin some, I've ridden on my yz400f for a while.
Nobody makes grips the way I would..........I would do something LIKE an oury, but very slightly thinner, with a med size flange.Whats the prob Oury?? Give me a flanged lock on!!!!!
nope. try it and see. I can't remember the brand of grip but I did try it with a similar style and it felt great. you could really 'push' into the ends of the bar for cornering. Although I'm not sure if it would work with these because the flange is thick.
nope the best winter grip is charges' new lockon soo much comfier than any other lockon grip ive tried and have lasted well so far.
Conveniantly enough, I've actually found a bunch of ripped off sunline end caps on my push ups (well, 2 really)... I'm still an ODI Ruffian fan though, so ended up binning them =p
I have the same problem with mine all the time doesn't have to be a hard knock either just a tap and it's stuck in the mud.
u dont understand the more u tighten them they destroy the plastic part the screws are pressing against and pushing the endcap away from the grip
i have sunline grips on all my bikes.. if you're losing end caps that easily it means you're not tightening them enough then they're getting ripped off and damaging the material what you tighten them into
buy some new grips and tighten them nice and tight/snug and enjoy

could also be because you haven't pushed them on properly. it you loosen the end cap when putting them on and make sure it is tightening on the bars NOT the plastic on the end of the grips they fit much tighter. (think that description makes sense?)
I know the screws dig in to the plastic and then you can't tighten them, Not fallen off at the moment so there doing good.
Stryke...you're fighting a losing battle man...just let it go, it just means more grips available for those of us who KNOW HOW TO OPERATE AN ALLEN WRENCH! lol!

I know how to use an allen key I'm just saying that they should improve there lock on mechanism as it's not very good, there was no battle just stating a negative point about the grips.
i have these, but i dont recomend twisting them to whre it mentions, the funger tips is where you grip mostly, and thats where you need the waffles for the most friction.

so what have we learnt from all this arguing? that if you have big hands buy the fat ones, and guess what! if you have small hands buy the skinny ones, yes the end caps can fall of if you dont titen them enough, and yes you can dent your bars if you over tighten them. Come on people we all have brains! please use them! stop moaning about sunline who make awsome grips
I dont see why anyone thinks these are copying anyone. This half-waffle design has been used by multiple companies including odi and others and is a tried and proven good design.
