There's something I don't get, I quote : "we can make certain Tara receives every opportunity for the best care that can be afforded".
That would mean you have to pay to be healed in the US ?

can you afford spinal surgery? health and education should be granted for everyone. everything else should be as you say. but you need to equal the field first, otherwise is just not fair.

yes exactly dude... health care is not free like in our country... in France we are over assisted, in the US if you don't have enough money, you don't get the best stuff... it sucks some how...

He was just saying that the cost for surgerey she had was arrond 250000 dollars at the hospital and she will need more money to be healed. and that the sponsors helped her to pay a part of it and they still accepting donations to help her, just as explained in the article.

Sad system and sad news though.

there's pros and cons to both systems... here in canada, i've seen people wait months, almost even a year for urgently needed surgery... people can die just waiting... i haven't had anything seriously wrong with myself yet except a few broken bones... on that note, i'd gladly wait 4 or 5 hours in emerg rather than paying assloads of cash

Well, Here in france, we don't wait that much and it's almost free even for heavy surgery, glasses, Scans, IRM etc....

A system that heal only the people who can afford it is wrong.
Being Ill or injured is unfair enough.

But that's not the point. I hope she'll be fine soon

Much respect for the Collective and the North Van retailers for helping out Tara. It's really amazing when a community comes together to help out an individual's road to recovery!

Here in Canada we have a pretty awesome system. WAY WAY better than in the states. BUT that being said France has probably the best I have ever seen. The big difference, assuming I am remembering this correctly, is that you guys over in France pay way more in taxes do you not? But personally I would much rather see my tax money going to better health care to take care of me and fellow citizens than to some fat old banker working for the prime minister...

Well taxes are arround 30% of your global income and it can goes up to 60% if you make a lot of cash.
The VAT is important as weel :19 % on most of the products and 5% on services.
Yes it's quite a lot and I assume that some of the social employees are kind of lazy but I think the system is pretty fair.
