Feels like the end of an era. Feel a bit sad. No Peaty, possibly no Rat, next season starting without Stevie in it. I love this sport, grown comfortable in its consistent entertainment and inspiration for years gone by. I know, call me Debbie Downer. Anyway, congrats Rach, smashed em and daaaamn Daniel.

Rat boy's excuse of wanting to limit his carbon footprint is hilarious. Does he really not notice his complete lack of ability to compete with today's riders? That's like me saying I don't date supermodels because I want to limit my carbon footprint... nevermind that they wouldn't even give me the time of day.

 @Marcusthefarkus: @Marcusthefarkus: What's a carbon footprint anyway???
  • 107 7
@Marcusthefarkus: he got 16th today with what looked like a chill run. He sat down multiple times and still laid down a killer run
  • 84 3
It could be the end of an era, but the start on a new one Fin is killing it, Danny hart is unstoppable right now, Laurie Greenland is smashing it as a first year elite. Next year is going to be exciting.
  • 83 3
@Marcusthefarkus: Ur tripp'n, he's up there with the 20 best riders in the world, if he took slightly more risk (which would depreciate his enjoyment level) he'd be competing top 5. Ratboys gonna be shaolin zen master, let it be
  • 128 1
@Marcusthefarkus: complete lack of ability eh? Dude ended up 21st overall this season. 162 riders hit the WC circuit in 2016. So he beat 87% of the field. So other than not date super models, what have you accomplished lately?
  • 83 13
Aside from which, am I the only person that thinks that reducing your carbon footprint is a valid reason for taking a step back? Especially given the current climate and the fact that for the last season or two he hasn't looked like he's been having as much fun. Can't blame a rat for wanting to enjoy life hey?
  • 85 4
It's not as simple as the carbon foot print. Its a simpified reason. There is something else about the race life that the rat isn't feeling at the moment. Bryceland is a "flow" guy and he's following the flow. There's more to life than racing bikes and he's already been at the top. I think he would still be winning races if his heart was in it. I hope to see him back one day. Much love

@billysugger : you forgot to mention Harry Heath as well!
  • 15 3
@Marcusthefarkus: you should tell peaty that...i mean ratty was his project. And if doesnt have what it takes to compete with riders today, why is he rank 16th or a top 20 rider In the WORLD? Have you even raced the world cup? And if you think top models are hot, pornstars are even hotter!!! Lol

@sam264: As long as he doesn't start churning out those terrible 50 to 01 videos
  • 12 1
@Marcusthefarkus: Others have already highlighted the fact that he is in the top 20 of the worlds best riders, let it be said probably not at full steam either. But A) who are you to judge somebodies reasoning behind retirement and B) if you are going analogise, please do it properly.

I love watching riding in vests and skinny jeans, cant get enough of that.

@Garpur44: Nope, to give an opinion, which is I don't like stoner edits and, as good as he is it wasn't a stellar run. Syndicate vids are the best out there so no trolling here.
  • 8 1
@jimmythehat: you don't know enough stoners then mate! and they ain't in skinny jeans..
  • 11 5
@Buzzyny: With full factory and team support, personal trainers ect, thats pretty weak for overall. Keep in mind that only about 35 riders could make all the world cups, if that, and a lot of those riders had to miss events through injury.

It doesnt exactly count if he beats a privateer living in a tent with a 3 year old bike, who does 3 events a season, while he gets custom bikes ect.
  • 2 1
@Joebro1995: Agreed it's weak in respect to what he can actually accomplish as proved last year but I don't think we could expect much more from a man planning to retire. I know I won't be giving it my all the weeks coming up to my retirement.
  • 2 0
@trevor-attridge: almost bought a bike from harry heath last year. such a humble guy. the sport will miss his privateer runs at fort bill
  • 4 0
Remember Matt Hunter last competition was the first rampage and he still manages to secure Specialized longer than any veterans.

Everytime I go to Val di Sole and watch these fast group of people go down I can't help but admire their passion and skills. Elite or privateer, they are the chosen few who compete againts the best of the best.
  • 3 0
 @Marcusthefarkus: you're a f*cking nobhead
  • 7 2
The end f the syndicate has been coming, they have Steve who was brilliant, but is past it. Ratboy who comes across as just dicking about and wasting immense talent. Greg seems to be the only one who is there to race and compete.
  • 4 0
@chrismac70: wasting talent? Wow, that's an interesting euphemism for "good luck buddy" Big Grin He's off to produce E-bikes for Elon Musk. Tesla-Bryce will destroy Motocross before 2025

@trevor-attridge: and best name of all times "Nick Beer" tooo

@chrismac70: I predict Loris Vergier and Luca Shaw + GM as captain. I have very little to no data to back that, but I'm going with it.

Josh!!! Noo!!! Listen...the small effect of carbon foot print your travel has is nothing when you compare it to amount of people you get stoked to ride BIKES instead of motorized sports, that is your input to reduction of carbon footprint...Dude you are needed! And you shread with steeze!! Peace

I struggle to think of a more eco-friendly career than a bicycle racer, travelling the world and inspiring other people to get into the sport of cycling. I started out riding downhill and I now ride a bike to work and everywhere else possible that I would otherwise be driving. If he's really quitting because of his carbon footprint then he's missing the bigger picture. If he's burnt out on racing then that's totally fair enough, his life and he should feel free to do as he like - long live the Rat.
  • 12 6
The most eco-friendly thing a man can do is to kill himself and donate organs. Or develop a deadly virus killing every human in the world. Polar Bears must survive. Other than that I wouldn't give a tiniest sht what is Ratboys reason to leave if he is leaving. He may go and pursue Jesus or Krishna, or become a disciple of son of Adolf Hitler. None of the option is any of my business and cannot influence my life in any way. Too many lads here behave as if he was a father of their daughter's unborn child. Fk them! Fk dolphins and coral reef too. As long as I mind my own fkng business, fk it all. I want a rug from a Polar bear and a cellar full of hungry vegans. At some point the'd have to eat each other moahahahaha

"It felt like it just was over 30 seconds in" - Aron Gwin. Yeah, i know the feeling...

I want to see Gwins rear wheel
  • 3 0
@dranem: Cheers. thought he exploded the rim Frown
  • 5 2
@juanmenendez: Me too. Wonder if he rolled the tire off the rim? My son did that just last week - cost him a fractured wrist.
  • 7 2
Anyone figure out why hes running tubes?
  • 3 0
@speedy38racer: Don't most DH guys run tubes in the more tech tracks? I heard some use a tube in a tubeless tire set up - sort of like insurance. Do you think his tire rolled off the rim? It was so abrupt on his run.
  • 3 1
@neimbc: Looks like he is running tube and tubeless as there is still a valve in the rim. essentially ghetto procore setup. I doubt the tyre would have rolled of the rim, probably pinched on a rock or something and the low pressure caused the tyre to come off
  • 5 1
@melonhead1145: nah. He's just running a straight tube. There's no sealant of the rim and the valve hole is empty.
  • 3 0
in the video it looks like the wheel crumbled, but I guess not?
  • 3 0
@adrennan: It does. Very catastrophic - Gwin says in the YT video - the tire came off the rim from him trying to avoid a rock. It happens. My son's front tire came off the rim DHing - suffered a sprained wrist.
  • 2 0
@neimbc: i was reacting to the picture posted above. the rim looks dandy in the photo but in the video it appears that the rim is effectively detached from the hub
  • 7 0
@adrennan: I thought the same - that in the race run, the spokes just busted of the hub! Sucks for Gwin, such a disappointment. Would have been great to see that Run - but Danny was on fire. Well to help support Gwin, I just bought a YT Capra.
  • 3 0
Check Loics run - I think you see the offending rock roll down onto the line
  • 8 2
One of the best helmet cam video I have ever seen. The sound of the spectators was so intense. Rachel is a Legeng that can keep winning for years. Track is so rough. Downhill is an amazing sport.

Just waiting on the syndicate vid
  • 4 0
WOW! What an exciting season....I already can't wait for next season and see Hart really step up and get the attention he deserves.Although it's sad to see some of the riders go I'm looking forward to see the young guns step up like Greenland, Shaw and some others....Is it 2017 yet?
  • 5 0
Is there an official statement about Ratboy retiring? I'd like to actually read his words rather than just all the comments as I'm not sure what to believe
  • 2 1
I've read people saying he's moving to the Steve Peat Syndicate and maybe just doing national races, maybe moving to Intense Factory under Sean Palmer (Palmer pretty pally with Josh in lots of Syndicate videos), possibly a combined move with the SPS to Intense. All of which would tie up with his 'yeah I'll be racing'. But trawling the interwebs just brings up forum chat, I can't find any press releases.
  • 3 0
What better way for everyone to start talking about a racer that's having a down year. Start a rumour. Syndicate is changing and next year you will still still see Josh racing. Just maybe not on a sc Wink
  • 6 1
AWESOME ))))))))))Rachel, this remains me Atherton Project. hehehehe.... Please guys, make that happen again.
  • 3 0
Let the speculations.... BEGIN! With Josh (supposedly) leaving WC and Sir Peat too, how will the syndicate look like next year? Any guess?
  • 3 0
Why didn't they show Sik Miks Nohander in the Vid? Absolutely mental! Big Grin Same goes for Bernhards whip over the stepdown ...
  • 3 0
The end of the Syndicate? as we know it anyway... Who is going to be Greg's new teammates? :/

Anyone know the song starting at 11:20 of the Sydicate vid? thks!

I'm usually keen to try those hard tracks seen in the World Cup/Euro-Cup videos. I'm not so sure about this one though :-0
  • 2 0
you know a track is mean when the flat sections are as steep as many of the other world cup venues during the year!
  • 1 0
Now that was an epic season with a truly awesome finale! Sad its all done for now. The last two tracks are what DH is all about, a good mix of rocks, roots and gnar!

Good on Rachel for living in the present.
