THAT'S IT THAT'S ALLLEGENDARY SUMMER BC CUP
After spending over twenty-five hours driving this weekend, a solid four hours shooting in the pouring rain, and another twelve lovingly drying out my camera, I expected to be glad this weekend was wrapped up and in the books, but I'm not. The Legendary Summer BC Cup at Fernie Alpine Resort this past weekend marked the last of the Dunbar Summer Series races for the season - this is officially your signal that it's time to grab a six pack, a bag of Doritos, and plan your Netflix viewing until spring.
Maybe it's a bit poetic that the last race of the season is the biggest slog to get to, the steepest and loosest of the series, and most damp (actually damp in an understatement given the torrential downpour of epic proportions), but despite the challenges it was a record attendance for the event.
Our last and lasting memory of 2015 will be the wind sending the Whistler Performance Lubricants tent into the chair lift, and how, through sheer man power, the start arch was prevented from taking any victims on its storm induced rampage. It will be ten months before some of us see each other again, and in that time our travelling circus of a dysfunctional and extended race family will change. Next year there will be familiar faces and new faces along with new rivalries, new lines, and new fresh kit. But regardless of who who joins our community, there is nowhere I would rather be then holding the results screen in place against the wind with one hand while trying to shoot Kirk McDowall's winning run through sideways rain with the other. There is something special about the Dunbar Summer Series, don't miss out next year.
A huge thank you goes out to the first aid crew on course and all the volunteers and resort staff who persevered through the miserable weather to make the event happen!
