The Dudes of Hazzard: Joe Barnes Bites, Part 1 - Video

The summer is in full swing, so I have decided to boot up a video blog to document the happenings for what's already a big 2016... The usual Dudes capers in some bite size portions to help keep the spirits peaking all summer long.

digging terns

Building trails is a favourite past time for me and a solid day digging is only second to a solid day riding. Or a solid day digging followed by a solid day's riding on what's just been dug-in is probably the ultimate. I set about something fun and easy this time as I hacked my new line into the hillside.

I think it's a 'trail builders curse' that once you ride your creation it's always tighter than planned. Making the most of the pedal up or just loving a turn slap, it's always too tight when I dig. This new creation is on the tight side but then maybe that's the challenge? I reckon about 5-laps in and it's riding perfectly! The ruts are narrow but strong and the line swooshes from rut to rut with ease. No dead spots or time to sit back. Just hammer some turns, pop out the bottom and go for another...

Hoofin ruts

Cheers,

Joe Barnes

You know you're a mountainbiker if your bike is worth more than your vehicle!

I definitely prefer those steep, tight trails to the wide, overly smooth and perfect trails that look like highways that you can see in some videos

Whats all this nonsense about loam? All I see is fresh, unridden mud. This dude makes riding it look easy.

Any one else think he was going to ride up that ladder ? lol

I must remember not to drop my outside foot when cornering Eek

So when cornering you ideally want to keep you inside foot down and your outside foot up?

@G-SpotDavid: the only rule is to ride and have fun.

This is an honest question, not trying to troll. I live in Madrid and there seems to be continuing riding tensions between bikers and other mountain users. They claim that the wisdom caused by MTBs is destroying the local trails. People complain that an explosion in MTB popularity is making the mountain unusable for walkers etc.

Unless the trail is on private land, I can't see that going down very well.

Do we consider the environmental impact of new trail building?

I don't think its a trail builders curse that lines end up feeling tighter than originally planned. I think its the curse of the Joe Barnes and his I can literally fit through any line mind lol. I certainly don't have that issue when I build, but its not surprising to see that Joe does. Love it.
