an ad for a car company on the homepage ... never thought i'd see the day, pinkbike. the contest doesn't even have anything to do with mountain biking.
  • + 24
but this video does, which is why it should win!
  • + 5
whether it wins or not is beside the point. this article benefits no one but the people in the article and Toyota. i can deal with ads on the side bar and top of the page (they are necessary to provide funding for the website), but not when they get passed off as articles.
  • + 15
wow bud.. we ride and shoot mountain biking, we found a opportunity to use those skills to hopefully showcase mountain biking to more people. ya it dose benefit us and ya pinkbike was cool enough to help us get a leg up on some votes. no need to be so angry.. maybe you should go have a nap and wake up on the right side of the bed..
  • + 7
i didn't mean to sound angry and i meant no offense to the makers of the video, i just think that a contest held by a car company with no relation to biking has no place on the homepage where articles about biking are supposed to go. it would make more sense to me if the video was put on the side of the website like some others with a brief synopsis of the contest underneath.
  • + 7
ahh fair enough, i hear your point.
  • + 47
The point of it is to support the BIKING community. That means those who ride, build and film and put together cools stuff. Always a hater in the crowd. Sigh, suck it up, and just be stoked that a couple of MOUNTAIN BIKERS put together a cool video and are hoping to win. They love RIDING and BUILDING TRAILS, and winning this would help them do those things even more.
So SUPPORT your fellow MOUNTAIN BIKERS and more so, your fellows in the biking community because that's the right thing to do.
Pinkbike does not get anything from toyota, or anything related commercial to this. This is strictly community support for fellow riders, and it would be really a great feeling if we all in the biking community helped fellow bikers win a cool truck. Especially if these guys are hard working dudes that build trails for all other bikers.

We promote products, riders, events and all sorts of biking related stuff on the home page. Promoting trail builders and filmers is a good thing and it's EXACTLY the type of thing that should be promoted on the homepage. I don't care if this promotes toyota, I'm doing it for my fellow bros in the biking industry.

Support the mountain bikers....vote.

just in case you didn't notice, this site is free, with free classifieds and pic hosting, don't hate appreciate.
  • + 25
i am well aware that ads allow the site to operate, as i have stated earlier. that said, i was unaware of the situation behind the article itself, and now that Radek has cleared that up for me, i have a better understanding of the motives. however unrelated to the rest of us it may be, it's Radek's website and the article is a helping hand to a crew who could use the truck for it's intended purpose, and i wish them luck. sorry if i was premature in my judgment.

your mother is free and has free pics

toyota sucks . that aside, i would have drivin my 2wd sonoma through most of those places . just sayin, that vid didnt prove anything , basicly any truck could have gone where you went, and hauled what you hauled .
  • + 1
I can't say anything about Toyota , I never owned one. But I can see your point about the places they ride the truck not being the roughest although they say they take it in places they wouldn't consider taking any other car . But any way I think that's what every commercial does, telling us is all good until we buy and make up our own opinion. Anyway I gave my vote to you guys hope you will win it.
  • + 1
Now I have seen a few of the other videos, guys I think the truck is yours.Congratulations. I mean the ones I have seen look so.....amateur compared with yours.

To all the guys bashing the link, if you dont like it then dont watch it. Toyota builds great trucks that help alot of us get up the hill and out to places that most people would never see. Right now, due to all the BS media bashing from the big 3, they could use all the extra support. My '02 quad cab is the best truck I have ever owned and if I can afford it I will never buy anything but a Toy. Hey Brandyn16, its not about going places better than anyone else. I could take my truck through just about anything. Without the equipment all you need is speed, unfortunately that breaks parts... A truck only needs to be built up to what the owner will use it for, not everyone is into thrashing their truck into submission. By the way, I wouldnt take your Sonoma to any place but where a tow truck could come get me. It could get expensive...
  • + 1
way to restate my point Ericbirk . I said, any truck can haul a few shovels, saws, and a dog, that proves nothing . thats what trucks are for . And as far as where he went off road, all truck makers have some sort of offroad 4x4 package , and any of them would go where he went no problem . Hell, you dont exactly need a monster truck to go up a dirt road . but as far what he said in the video, about no other vehicle being capable , or something to that extent, there a far better stock off road packages . Im a Gm guy , but il admit Z71 isnt the greatist package, i will say the dodge power wagon is probably the most capable off road pick up straight off the line . plus it can haul twice as much as that little thing in the video, as its a full sized 3/4 ton . As much as i had to praise ford, the raptor would probably be better of road then that toy . And as far as my sonoma? i never said its an off road truck, ( i wish), but its quite capable of driving on those dirt roads, and packed gravel . exect maybe one or two of those shots you might need 4x4 .
  • + 1
 brandyn16
remember bud that at the end of the day you still drive a 2wd sonoma, and live in ontario and these boys rock a slick Tacoma and live in the best place for bicycling in the world.

and you have got to be kidding me a 3/4 is the best off road truck off the line...you have to come out here and drive some real roads in the mountains or out at the logging blocks, good luck with a wide ass awkward 3/4 tonne
  • + 1
Brandyn, yeah I did restate your point but I didnt come out as a dick about it. The Power Wagon is great if all you do is fly through mud pits with a beer in your hand, and tow your trailer. Its nice that its locked from the factory, and is a remarkably capable truck for sure, but its just too damn big.

Just wanted to point out that as good of a job as this video is. The votes are bogus. My buddy entered this contest, and is pissed at the fact that in a matter of minutes, thousands of votes are submitted. It's too bad that you couldn't just count on your video being better than the rest, and left the voting to be true. I guess the real winner will be chosen when the time comes.
  • + 2
 Ketman.
i see you can find the rules, shame you cannot understand them. Seeing as Toyota selects 9 videos, and only leaves one space open for the online voter contest they are essentially encouraging everyone who entered to compete for the one wildcard spot in the finals. Encouraging EVERYONE to promote their video...that is how viral video contests work. They have created a competitive atmosphere where the people who entered the contest are doing a tonnes of grassroots and word of mouth marketing for Toyota. Seeing videos on front pages of popular websites is exactly what they are after, a tonne of web traffic with little investment or work from their marketing teams. If this were not the case, why would they have an embed code on their site? and why encourage you to embed the videos to your own website? Way to think it through big dawg.

instead of attacking a group of enterprising young filmmakers, with an understanding of internet marketing, you should give your friend a hardtime for being a dumbass and not thinking of something like that first. our society promotes innovation, not siting at home crying on your computer.

and seriously that video is going to be selected for the top 9 whether it is the judges choice or the peoples. if it gets in from the voting there is another spot open for your buddies video, although it is unlikely that it will be selected or have a chance against that one...but thanks for coming out
[Reply]
  • + 1
Ketman, I say again its not about who can go out and thrash their truck the hardest. Its about the lifestyle, etc. It doesnt matter that you could have taken a Yaris up that road. The fact is that they used their truck to do what they love to do, thats what matters.

I use my Tacoma to haul my bike, camp, and to get to many many places that most people dont see. It has what I need on it, bumpers, skids, sliders, UCA/front coils, Deaver rear pack with Icon remote resi's, BFG MK2's, Warn XD9000, and a few other odds and ends. Its not GIGANTIC but it is reliable, goes where I need it to, and I can still drive it on the highway.
This contest is about people who use their truck, it doesnt matter how, just the fact that they do so chill out.

Just cant please everyone...
[Reply]
  • + 1
exactly, 200,000+ members divided by 5000 votes = only 1/40th of the members who watched it and made one measly click "vote". not to mention this video kills all the other ones so the general public is obviously voting the shit out of it too!

if your buddies vid was on the frontpage of pinkbike, it might have been up there too.

vote-bot? cheating? not likely.

MADDDDDDDD P.R.
  • + 1
The video doesn't kill anything. The theme to the contest is what do you love about trucks? This video shows a truck driving up a road that a Yaris could drive to. The point of this contest is to PROVE what it is you love about trucks/4Runners/suvs'. This video hardly does that. but I guess you bike guys stick together. Toyota has the final say.
  • + 1
I would say this video sums up why they love their truck. It reliably gets them up the trail with all their gear in comfort so they can do what they love. In the end isnt that what we all have our trucks for. I like mine for the same reasons...
[Reply]
  • + 1
I think the point Ketman is trying to make is no other video has had the luxury of a front page spread on pinkbike. Therefore a completely bogus competition. Please feel free to shout at me.
  • + 10
Hows that not fair its a contest where you make a video and get as many votes for it as you can, they want a many people as possible going to that web page.
  • + 2
agreed, and there is a copy/paste link right under the video, which i assume toyota put their to use as a tool to help you win. great video, you got my vote every day, and you're blowing all the other video's away!
  • + 2
beerismycopilot, you should probably lay off the sauce there buddy. the 'most unfair' contest ever is actually a viral video contest. the whole idea behind it is to begin word of mouth marketing, instead of calling these boys out for killing it you need to give your head a shake and think about why Toyota would hold the contest. if you read the rules, which i doubt you have, you will see that a panel of judges selects 9, of the 10 videos for the final. meaning that all this voting decides only 1 spot of the final 10, essentially encouraging everyone who enter to 'hedge their bets' and fire their video around to try and secure that final spot. thus a viral video contest is born, where videos are shared and distributed throughout the internet. Toyota is probably hoping that everyone tries unique ways to distribute their video, thus increasing web traffic and creating a grassroots word of mouth marketing campaign. Hopefully people will catch on to that idea and spend less time bitching at these boys because they know how to shred a camera and rock an editing suite, and more time posting their own videos throughout the interweb. and even if they do, i am pretty sure this video will be selected by those judges anyway.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it appears you already have a pretty new looking Toyota, why do you need another one? It's a great video though, you deserve to win.

yes kevin does.. the rest of us have old shoes..

I highly doubt that 3000 outdoor enthusiasts happened to be on the computer, reading the same post and voting at once. but whatever.
  • + 1
You're really failing to prove a point here. Big deal, a couple guys that know their way around a video camera and good editing software took the opportunity to win an awesome truck. One of the developers for this site saw it and decided to do his part and help his fellow riders and builders. Then a good portion of the users saw this, and voted to help out their fellow riders and builders as well. They are promoting Toyota, which is what Toyota is looking for, and they made a great movie at the same time. Get over it.
  • + 2
 Wow! Someone is sour.

When a video we post on this site goes Video of the day 20,000+ views in one day is the norm.

I guarentee nobody in our crew would waste time using a bot.

Online voting only qualifies a video for the 10th spot.

Not sure if you're aware, but its a VIRAL video contest and they want traffic to the site. Pinkbike delivered! Beat it kook and enjoy your sour grapes!

Contest rules: If it is discovered that attempts were made to: (i) vote more than once per person/email address/computer per day; (ii) use any form of automated, script, macro robotic or other program(s) to submit votes and/or (iii) engage in systematic voting from the same computer/IP address over a short period of time; then Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify the votes and/or the Video to which such votes relate.

Good Luck!
  • + 2
what he did by promoting it here didn't break any of those rules. All those rules say is that if the votes were cheated it could be disqualified, promoting isn't cheating.
