Pinkbike.com Team Update - Worlds Fastest Riders

May 8, 2008

Troy Lee Designs, cleverly labeled "For the Worlds Fastest Riders" has come through with some well needed protection. No, not the kind of protection your parents kid about. Were talking carbon fiber construction, moisture wicking fabric's, and shorts.
Troy Lee Designs supports some of the fastest riders in the world, so it's of no surprise that their motto says the same thing. Big name teams such as the Syndicate rock out in the same gear that, yes, the Pinkbike.com/Devinci DH team will be kick it in. Troy Lee Designs is a big name company that specializes in protective gear for all aspects of riding. They are a huge name in the Motocross and Dirt Bike industry, and of course the Mountain Bike industry. Either way, this stuff carries a bling factor that is guaranteed to turn heads.

We recently received our team order from Troy Lee Designs, and I have to say it is some very good looking gear. We received the D2 Carbon Phobia Helmet, the XC Jersey (for casual riding days), the Sprint Short, and the GP Gloves. We will start from the top down.

The D2 Carbon Phobia helmet is a sick lid! Constructed out of Carbon Fiber for superior weight savings compared to other helmets. It has a bunch of cool little features on it. First off, it's a Carbon Fiber based helmet. This means not only is it sickeningly light, but it looks bling in the sun shine, as you can see the carbon weaving pattern on it. It also features Titanium visor screws, which just add to the already low weight. All Troy Lee Designs helmets come with the removable liner so you can wash it to keep it fresh. The Phobia features a "Black Widow" graphic design, that is a dark finish, with spiders etched in on the helmet.

Next up is the new long sleeve XC jersey. Yes, this jersey does have a short sleeve option for your real XC guys and gals, but we wanted a nice casual jersey for those long days in the saddle, but with enough arm coverage to keep the branches at bay. This jersey is a very clean black and red design, featuring a really thin fabric to keep you cool. It also features 3 pockets on the lower back for water bottles or beer cans. It has a 3/4 length zipper, and strategically placed stretch panels. This jersey is very light weight, and very breathable, using moisture wicking fabric's through out. I would highly recommend this jersey for anyone looking for a versatile long sleeve riding jersey.

One thing Pinkbike supports is sick, flashly, blinging, in your face, burn your eyes, bright gloves and the TLD GP glove fits that description to a tee. According to Troy Lee Designs these gloves were painstakingly designed to mimic the human hands as they rest on the handlebar grips. The GP Gloves feature Air-Prene, which provides cooling characteristics and a light non-restrictive fit. The small bits of rubber on the fingers are there to add a little bit of protection against passing by limbs, oh and to look rad!

The Sprint short has been a favorite for DH racers, and riders alike for a while now. This short sits at knee length and provides great mobility, and a comfy feel, combined with its lack of pockets, and prominent Troy Lee Designs on the leg. The venting in the front allows air to flow through them and keep you so cool on those hot days or while you are pinning it during your race run! Since they are good enough for big name riders like Nathan Rennie, and Michal Prokop, I am sure these shorts won't let our riders down.

So, all in all I think our Pinkbike race team is going to be stacked in beautiful race gear this year thanks to Troy Lee Designs, and I can't wait to see them out killing it. Hope to see you guys and girls out there rooting on the team with us.

Keep it real,
Jordan.

That guy looks like he's wearing it too far forward on his head, like he pushed the back up. I don't see anyone else wearing it like that

Anyone else noticed that the difference in weight between a carbon and composite D2 this yr is nothing at all, think every is still just a bit caught up on carbon - "ooo CARBON, can I stroke it and lick it"

While not directly lighter, it will leave your wallet $80 lighter, thus having a net effect of lowering your "system weight". Think like the 15QR

i think that kid makes that gear look bad, they shold have gotten a good rider to demo it... (drew mitchell, tyler morland, or steve smith) they look really cool when they are riding. but yeah tld is an amazing company.

Well since none of those riders ride for Pinkbike or work there, that seems like a silly idea. "that kid" might actually surprise you as he can ride a two wheeler too!

Hahaha point taken, but this is gear that came in and was sent out to the team riders. We wanted to get shots of it right away and none of our team riders live in the same town as us so this is the best way to do it-by posing it up. Thanks for the comment!
