The Island - Part 2 - Sooke

Mar 22, 2011

Sooke, BC is located on the southwest tip of Vancouver Island. As such, it gets more rain than the rest of the Island, but it also doesn't get as many visitors as the rest of the Island.

Winter storms can make for a rough crossing over to the Island. Make sure you pull the parking brake on your vehicle and hold on to your lunch.

This is not in Sooke, but it is on the way to Sooke, and a great representation of what the Island is all about.

Sooke has some very different terrain. Like this moss and fern-encrusted, abandoned water pipeline that goes for forty-four kilometers. It used to be the pipeline that fed Victoria its water. Now it's just a really cool trail.

HV is an awesome riding area! I was there a couple of years ago and was amazed! No hike-a-bike required, however. The locals ride up all that sh*t! Sooke Mountain Cycles rocks, too! Thanks again for the grip bolt, Lorien!

I think you could get some amazing shots down in Victoria, try Mt. Doug.. go to the very top of the road, way up, very top to the tea cut outlook area... walking trail from the top of the mt. doug road, then ride the backside of the mountain... views + DH trails. you will have an amazing photo gallery after a day of that.

amazing shots of the island riding so far! thanks for sharing!

Excellent Photoessay!...How do you pronounce the Island's name? Sooke as in Cook...or as in Fluke?
