The Island - Part 2 - Sooke
Mar 22, 2011
Sooke, BC is located on the southwest tip of Vancouver Island. As such, it gets more rain than the rest of the Island, but it also doesn't get as many visitors as the rest of the Island.
Winter storms can make for a rough crossing over to the Island. Make sure you pull the parking brake on your vehicle and hold on to your lunch. |
This is not in Sooke, but it is on the way to Sooke, and a great representation of what the Island is all about. |
Welcome to Sooke. |
The bike salvage yard at Sooke Mountain Cycle is the place to check out if you want to build yourself a city beater. |
Sooke has some very different terrain. Like this moss and fern-encrusted, abandoned water pipeline that goes for forty-four kilometers. It used to be the pipeline that fed Victoria its water. Now it's just a really cool trail. |

James Doerfling lights it up on Broom Hill, one of two main riding zones in Sooke. |
From the top of Broom Hill the Washington coast is just a twenty minute illegal boat ride away. |
The Broom Hill lookout. We were told that Broom Hill is new school. |
While Harbourview (the other riding zone), is old school. |

Hiking up... |

...to get another shot. |

People have been riding in Sooke for longer than most of us have been alive for. |
Back out into the heart of darkness. |

Along to cover the action was Mitch Cheek of Solos Productions. |
See you in Sooke. |
