Must Watch: Road Bike Freestyle

Jun 3, 2014
by Karl Burkat

Brumotti was inspired by British trials rider Martyn Ashton’s 2012 Road Bike Party film and its recent 2013 sequel, Road Bike Party 2. Brumotti has been riding trials on road bikes since 2013 and, besides capturing the spectacle on film, he also showcases his skills to the public at road bike freestyle shows.

“Martyn was one of my inspirations and I was a huge fan of everything he did on Road Bike Party,” says Brumotti. “My new film is my dedication to Martyn’s work.”

”I’ve known Vittorio for many years,” says Martyn Ashton of Brumotti, “He brought his energy and style to the competition scene and his passion for riding is legendary in the trials world. He has always wanted to inspire people through his riding and this video is certainly going to do that.”

So let me get this straight, I use a road bike for trials an all mountain bike for downhill and my downhill bike for beer runs? Great vid the guy is a beast

its a complete copy of road bike party 1 and 2 but just as amazing and impressive, really something different and fun to watch, no to mention the skill involved is unreal.

...just missing the unicycle! Glad to see the outtakes...makes you realize these superheros have to try too.

The only thing I'd say is that they credited road party so they acknowlegded their work so I guess the haven't just stolen the concept and claimed it their own

Actually roadies measure distance they were used. This one probably has only like 50km, so they have just bed in! Best buy for sure!

Have been riding for ten years, this vid just is a testament that all you need is skill and that practise makes perfect. All other new bike innovations are just to satisfy our consumer needs. If you geniously love riding you 'll ride anything anywhere and feel good about it.

... or to make the ride more fun. Technically you can do a lot on a road bike and technically you're right but it's the furthest thing from enjoyable, haha. There's a reason why Danny said it was insanely tough and he's one of the best trails riders in the world. This dude in the video, props to him. Riding on that tiedown was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen and he made hopping over the tennis net look way too simple.

This is without a doubt one of the coolest and most fun videos I've ever seen on Pinkbike. I actually want to go buy a road bike and get hurt trying to ride it like this guy. Great filming, really creative, music works, and the riding is some of the most interesting stuff I've seen in any discipline from any rider. Awesome. Smile

Is this whole trials on a road bike now a "thing"? If so, brilliant! Props to Martyn for starting the revolution and inspiring people to look beyond the accepted.

A Brumoz!

  • 3 0
 Very good by why?
I like the Italian H&S as well. If Martyn Ashton had said I want to ride on a diggers tracks as its moving and then be chased by another one as I rolled backwards down a hill on my front wheel, British H&S officers would have had a meltdown. In Italy - all good. Bravo!

Haaaw the first part is recorded at the white marble caves in Carrara... where Quantum of Solace was also recorded (I was there the last saturday). Love that place... for bigGGG wheels www.flickr.com/photos/rebel_82nd/14145896898

Amazing video. But was it just me or should someone explain to the boys at GCN how to properly film in slow motion? Maybe its just my computer, but the slow motion looked very stuttery. GCN makes good vids, but I doubt they've had much experience with slow motion effects - not much call for that when road biking.
  • 1 1
I think it was your computer!

Looked a bit jittery to me too.

"Abbombazza"....like he said on italian tv's shows!
Now he's an italian tv face and he shows the abandoned mega-structures here in Italy... riding the bike inside them...

Recon Brumotti had basically said to the road bike party boys that what they did was great, but he can also do it... Kind of like a slap on their face with a glove and challenging then to a trials duel Smile . The tennis court net jump and the right rope rides on particular would be a challenge.

Good on him, will be great to see some friendly rivalry!

Bringin' the gnar. I'd rather see it on a 24" or 26" though. Martyn did this, it was a neat & amazing experiment. Leave it that way & get back to the real business. Shit like Epecuén. All trials is good trials & all trials is good stuff but I want more of it the right way.
  • 5 3
Wow thats sick. Not quite as good as bike party or bike party 2. I kinda felt like it was almost copied. I know the inspiration was there but its all been done before.
  • 3 0
Its great to see stuff like this from others apart from Akrigg, Ashton and MacAskill. Fantastic riding!

flag jissse (Jun 3, 2014 at 5:53) (Below Threshold)
True, lots of skills but even if it's an hommage it's a bit disappointing to see so much tricks from other videos. There was some good ideas though, hopefully he'll do more original stuff next time !
  • 4 1
anyone else notice it looks like he is wearing rock climbing shoes?
  • 2 0
They're scrambling shoes. Big difference! Scrambles have tread like a regular shoe and slightly harder rubber and more firm walls. Climbers are basically a leather sock with some super soft rubber on the sole with no padding whatsoever. Would be unbareable to ride with.
  • 2 0
I noticed that too. I don't know what a scrambling shoe is, but I do know that's not an approach shoe which I think is what you're thinking of. It actually might be a rock shoe, maybe something designed for crack climbing that isn't so painfully tight.
  • 1 0
Pretty much! Scrambles are more like a runner though whereas the approach is more akin to a hiking shoe/boot

Dear Brumotti this video makes all of us proud to be Italian. THANKS

Not a hipster, not new Danny, Brumotti has been around years - anyone seen jib???
  • 1 0
While riding up on top the bridge I wanted to see him ride down the bridge support to the road. Great video!
  • 1 3
 I can't stand these videos.

Trials riders can do their magic on anything, so that they're doing it on a roadbike is different, but not much more than that. An example is the fixie crowd. They can do neat and impressive things, but that doesn't make it cool. It's like doing a bunch of technical flip-trick stuff on a penny skateboard. You might be able to, but why would you? Like, bomb the hill or do major slides!

A cool road bike video would include mega lean angles and major speed in an urban environment, where that speed would get you some foot-out/foot-up sliding and some air, like the famous pic of that road rider boosting air going over that bridge.

I'm not going to argue with you guys. I've NOT said these riders aren't talented, I've only said I can't stand these videos. I know I'm not the only one.
  • 1 0
One Question? If the guy ride a trial bike are more good? or dont can ride?
  • 1 0
Seriously out of control. Wtf man. I'm speechless. Balls made if something besides steel. Wow
