Haha, Im not sure what was funnier, Brendogs "Speed wheely" or when he said "Backfliping the canyon gap is actually easier than straight airing it". Rampage needs a new voice for sure, someone with experience and that know what he is talking about.
They actually edited the commentary, too. On the live cast he said Kyle was "Trying to do one of the hardest things in this sport, win rampage more than once" and obviously somebody caught that and edited it out for this video. I think they could have clipped this guy out completely.
But McGarry totally made his bike look like an bmx -.- Norby said the same oh wait sometimes i confuse names it maybe was mitch chubey. Sadly i could write down so much more...
Guys its true that they don't commentate very well but theres no need to exaggerate ...
- godziek said it was easier to backflip , not the commentators
- machine is used really often to describe a big bike
- 'he made it seem like a bmx' is what u say if they seem big compared to the bike
im not trying to defend them-I dident really enjoy the commentary- but it wasent a bad attempt at describing riders ride down a mountain doing tricks that are not very clear because of the terrain and camera placement.
I think a lot of people here underestimate how quickly you have to say things while commentating. its stressfull and a slip of the tongue is easily done...
strait got robbed that run was sick but a red bull athlete took it lacondeguy has been shredding all year and his run was sick but strait should have been second
I have commentated skate events and it can be a challenge. I will give them that. That's why they typically choose commentators with experience in what they're talking about.
It was clear that this dude had no idea and was just reading his cliff notes sheet. We were told about Kyle and Zink being bffs like six times. Kelly is a pretty interesting guy, it's a shame that the only thing they wanted to talk about was the he is tall and from NZ.
It's a tough job for sure. TMac would have handled it beautifully, at least it wasn't sal masakala.
Not sure if that was intentional or not but when I watched it, I exploded. It was sooo sick. And that massive no-hander was savage. Definitely my favorite run.
Well, the real 3rd place run at least. .25 pts worse than semenuk? I just don't see how a few "small" tricks trumps going big. No, huge. Either way, I'm in awe of all their skill. The worst guy down would school me. And a few others I'd bet.
Extremely techy top-section without losing the flow.. that tire scrub and style coming into the biggest feature on course and beeing the only one to trick it.. tough call but since Zink dint even hit the line he had built after that 360-drop i think Kyle shud at least have gotten 3rd- for steez, style, fluidity and the massive no-hander!
But i defnitly see how Andreu got first.. that was the most direct high consequence line and he rode it like a boss!
I think theyre commentating for the average Joe who's gonna tune in December to watch some crazy mountain bike event where people are jumping off cliffs. I think NBC mandated some sort of "commentary for the people" that the hardcore rider would cringe at.
Then Give the live stream to T-Mac and save that other shit for the NBC replay. Does anyone who is not a MTBer watch this? They don't let football announcers announce surfing, snowboarding or bmx. Why should Rampage be any different? For those who say one of the announcers used to ride bmx they don't have skateboarders announce kiteboarding or parasailers announce the Red Bull Air Race.
Don't do that. Call them out on it. Let them know they made a mistake. When you get an answer wrong on a test you don't see the teacher saying well I see your point....
No reigning champion has been able to defend the Rampage title (until now), they have been out due to injury or something else, but mostly injuries. In lasts year "road to rampage" there was a full episode about the curse, needless to say Sorge didn't make it.
he f*ckin CHARGED that run, including the ridiculous top section, and I hadn't noticed that he intentionally tapped the ledge. too steezy. I think this easily could've been the winning run
Kyle crushed it superfluid. I just can't understand how cam throwing one trick trumps all the tricks momentum andstyle that Kyle had. Ohh and the announcers were hysterical to listen to "trickery"was the funniest word I heard quoted of the day. At another point they said herbertson changed his wardrobe. The only changing going on at this event should be me announcing instead of those dumb **cks.
I never noticed Strait clip the dirt with that whip before. That was so tits. LOL I'd be comfortable saying Strait & Andreu belonged in opposite places this year & last year. Meh, guess it balances out.
For once I agree with you. I attended and the crowd wasn't happy with the judging. Strait didn't deserve it last year at all and Lacondeguy did. Opposite this year however I think Rheeder could have been anywhere in that mix his run was banger.
Kyle should have had it in the bag . So much power and momentum down the mountain, total conviction. I wonder if the judges weren't a little biased in voting him higher up because he had already two wins.
Lacondeguy's run definitely edged out Kyle's. 1) Even though he didn't trick the big drop, his landing was much smoother, and 2) the speed he carried towards the first drop and the way he hopped into it showed a lot of confidence. IMO Lacondeguy's top drop carried higher risk than Kyle's vertical wall section.
and he no handed it ... not sure why this run wasn't better than andreu's
- andreu's 1st drop was no more gnar than kyle's vertical entry to hard corner
- andreu's hip was bigger, but kyle's tap was steezier
- andreu straight air massive drop, but kyle did it no-handed
- andreu's backflip on the rzr booter, kyle superman
all other bits and pieces, speed and style were pretty similar, as were the lines in the end but the no-hander big drop ... come on. i just couldn't believe how kyle's run didn't get into the mid 90's if not the top of the order.
... and i was ballin for andreu all the way but it also seemed that the judging and runs were coming down really quick, much quicker than years past, perhaps too quick to get it all right. great show in the end regardless.
I thought Kyle's run was really sick as well, one of the best to watch. I guess you don't get full points for dropping a feature if you didn't help build it.
Why does the country they are from matter? A lot of us 'muricans' favorite pro riders are from your country like ratboy and brendog. But why should where they live even matter??
"Lots of travel on the front and rear forks....."
1 Lacondeguy
2 Brandon
3 strait
4 zink) and best trick but the bottom section wasn't very flowy
I can understand why not talking about during the building and practice but its all over now, no more bad juju out there.

Ah, no. In the first few Rampages, 10 and 12 inch were lots. These guys run a measly 8.
Seriously you 'mericans need to revise your idols ffs
