To say the least this winter has been hectic, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally work with Magnus. We want to do everything we can to help him out. For the past 3 years we have watched Magnus grow from a young little grom into an incredibly disciplined and talented rider. His form and style is perfect and certainly not that of your average 15 year old.

Magnus is not your average kid. He works very hard, and it shows in every aspect of his life. He is focused on his goals and knows exactly how to reach them. His level of skill is high, he has a dedicated training program, and with several podium finishes he is on the path to becoming one of Canada's premier downhill racers. But when you still have to go to high school, train every day, stay focused and juggle part time job its not easy to fund a racing career. This is where Magnus needs your help. Learn about his past success and his upcoming season - Head to his crowd funding page and help this kid climb the ranks!

Magnus Manson CGP

"This year I hope to race 13 races total, 3 in Washington, 2 in California and 8 in BC. I am working as many hours as I can in my minimum wage, part time job. I won’t be able to earn enough to cover my expenses for the season. My goal in 2014 is to race as much as I can, perform to my highest capability, and grow stronger and faster for the following seasons to come. Having the support now will help my racing career in the future, having a strong season before I am able to race on the international stage is super important." - Magnus Manson

i don't ride for almost 2 years because i can't afford a bike and then i see a 15 year old with that bike + gear + everything you could ever want... don´t get me wrong i wish the very best for this kid but f*ck me i envy him...
  • 30 3
I agree, I had to save for a year and half to get the money together to buy my first downhill bike. Being a privateer racer has to be a huge burden financially, I know my parents couldn't afford to buy me a dh bike let alone pay for the travel expenses, food, gas etc. that it takes to be a racer. It is the same way for people starting out in motocross, Villopoto's family basically sold their house to fund his racing when he was young. Its insane, but some people will do anything to achieve their dreams of being a pro racer.

My question is: why doesn't he send this well edited video to bike companies? Seems to me they would know a great editing crew is backing him and would put out good promo videos for him. Look at Metallier...he did the same and now he has a full ride.
Best of luck to this kid though!
  • 8 0
This probably is that video. My bet is this kid is on a World cup team for 2015 racing the junior category. Which team though, that is the question.
  • 4 1
He must really like cat treats

Dunbar has a good crew to take care of him, he's on the pinkbike front page so I'm sure he'll have a few emails from companies soon!

I'm 16, been working a job for 6 months now, almost have enough for my dream bike!!!!!!!!
  • 53 5
I'm all for charity, but I don't consider some kids desire to ride his bike to be very important. Better call your uncle for the money kid
  • 12 2
 Totally agree
  • 8 3
If a video of you riding is on the main Pinkbike page, i'd say your getting pretty good publicity. Saving up for a bike is part of the fun haha, and makes it feel so good when you actually ride that thing

Its cool that you got super rich parents and can have all that stuff without working for it bro.

cleary you don't know magnus or his sponsor/financial sutuation if you think that everything just gets handed to him. He works extremly at his riding to be where he is with sponsors ect and spend most spare hours of the day grinding at a minimum wage job to save for racing.

Well u don't see me going around asking for money do u ? I'm a big boy do it on my own
  • 19 3
Dont donate then, simple as that. The kid works as hard as he can to make it on his own but no saldly thats not enough to fund an entire season of racing in a very expensive sport.. Say all you want but its near impossible to make it in mountain biking without some kind of outside financial support. You may be less critical when hes the one being paid to race his bike around the world and youre working in a cubicle watching
  • 8 0
Exactly! And it's always worth a try asking for help. I can't wait to see him on WC in a few years

OH you all AMERICANS and CANADIANS you shouldn't complain about money, try living on a shitty third world country like mine and then you can complain, i went to the USA and worked for 5 months in landscape and maintenance and i bought a new 2013 demo 8 specialized, thats the only way i could affort a bike like that.I also have the skills to ride at the world cups but i wont ever be able to because im in a f*cking shitty third world country where you get paid less than 20 dollars a day in the best of the jobs. Either case i envy you guys.

@ DarrenDouche You're not "telling it like it is" You're only acting like a jealous little kid. Funny thing is, I bet this 15 year old ripper wouldn't question how you've achieved what little you have. Grow up, learn some social skills, and get a life.
  • 8 2
I'll defend Darren in this situation. No matter how you slice it, Magnus has had to have received a lot of financial support from his parents. Just because he is working currently to fund his racing does not guarantee that he was when he was younger. There are some things that just can't be done when you are young without support from parents. He has needed substantial ride time to get to the level he is at currently. Assuming nobody told you his age and you just saw his riding, you would never assume he is 15. His jumping skills are insane, and he has so much control over the bike, its nuts! His riding is far beyond his years and that can only happen one way, with tons of practice, which had to have been done when he was younger and unable to work for his own gear which means his parents bought him the equipment and took him to places to ride. At least that's my theory about it...
  • 11 1
Enough of this arguing, Magnus is not asking for money with nothing in return if you headed over to the website you'll see hes got a some alright givebacks like XO shifters and Derailleurs so you in fact could just buy you next derailleur off Magnus for a bit less then normal and support his racing. Win Win?

Fastjohn1 I agree with your viewpoint. My comment was more based on this guys' constant belittling, complaining, and just overall negative commentary on seemingly every story (and other users comments) published on PB. But back to Margus, this kid shreds and he's riding a Wilson, hells yeah! lol, I don't care how or what got him to were he's at, he's got my props %100
  • 5 2
Why is anyone criticizing him and his family for helping him to get to where he is? My parents helped me out a tonne with biking since I was about 10 years old. Whether it was financial assistance so I was able to afford a new bike, new parts, or paying for my racing. And I've got no career in racing ahead of me now, I'm simply not fast enough. But in my parents eyes, perhaps it was worth it. It's just about having supportive parents. Perhaps instead of complaining about why this kid has all the support behind him you should be complaining about how you're parents weren't willing to support you. I assure you, just about every world cup racer would have received the same support from their parents and sponsors when they were younger.
  • 3 0
Why is this top post? What a bunch of downers. This kid can shred and obviously has some solid support groups in place. Keep it up magnus!
  • 5 1
All you folks complaining about money should reexamine what you are doing with your lives. You mountain bike, you have made the choice to mtb, and mtb is an expensive sport. What has all of your bitching over the years accomplished? Nothing. Markup on bike parts is still INSANE from the dist level up to retail despite the complaints. Either accept bikes are expensive or go buy a huffy.

Regarding this kid asking for money, all the power to him. He is following his dreams and that takes financial assistance. I think it shows maturity and drive to take that kind of initiative at that age. Given there is a mass audience discussing his video I think it's safe to say he will be well supported.

That being said, I can't donate. I need to buy a new set of gold plated titanium pins for my pedals.

work hard, make your own luck, and acquire rad skills.
  • 3 1
It's so cool to see people my age really have a good shot at becoming pro. There is a 15 yo in my race cat that always wins regionals (often getting the fastest time of the day) and gets podium pretty often in nationals. I'm privileged to race him even though I have nothing on him. I will definitely watching out for these guys in a few years time when they are racing worlds. It's cool to have idols that are at the top at the moment like the athertons and even ones that were at the top before I started dh like peaty but also cool to see people my age have the dedication to work hard. It might seem easy if you have a high goal but it still takes so much effort to 100% commit. To do school work in your own time in the evenings takes a lot of dedication. To be a pro is the dream of a lot of young riders, me included but I know that I would never have the right mindset to put 100% of my energy into training as well as just riding. It's hard to say to yourself "today I won't go out and ride, I will work in the gym and then go for a run and top it off with school work". Massive props to Magnus and everyone else who puts the same amount of effort into it.
  • 2 1
Of course working hard, training and determination is what with a little skills gets you somewhere. Nevertheless, it is obvious that some peoples situation makes it way easier, location, money, parents support, contacts.... that said, I understand how some people may be jealous about him ( I am) but keep it to yourselves, never bring someone else down just because you are not happy!! this video is cool!
  • 2 1
At first I saw this and thought this kid has so much already, motos, dh bike, awesome trails the ability to ride easily, parents who are supportive, clearly money to train and gym facilities and he is trying to get to a lot of races (how many are actually necessary). I thought why should he get this help when he has so much...

BUT

I thought about it and I feel this is a negative and selfish way to think, so instead of been jealous of what this guy has I try to see it in a positive light, although I wish I had those opportunities too and im sure part of me is jealous haha, I say good on him, he has been blessed with some great opportunity and while some people are lucky I don't know his story and if I was in his situation I'm sure i would do the same to reach my goal. His a kid trying to follow his dream and his come to a point where he is stuck. He has a dream and his doing all he can to reach it.

Good on him, who of us wouldn't do the same to reach a life goal if we had the chance?

Sure I still think maybe he needs to consider what racers are necessary rather than what he 'wants to race' but his following his dream so good luck to the bloke.
  • 3 3
What are you, his fan club Tonydoyle-back-in1999?

Jesus, do you honestly he think he's "Worked" hard at his riding? the kid's 15 and never worked a day in his life.
  • 5 1
Um, I'm 15 and I have have had 3 jobs. I started with a paper round and then got a job at a takeaway. I also help some people with labour stuff. I have an expensive bike (brand new) and the kit I need. As well as road bike and a jump bike and I am close to buying an AM bike. I have received very little financial support from my parents. Only for Xmas and birthdays etc. most of my riding friends work too and they are my age.
  • 3 0
 I like u luka . That's how it's done
  • 21 1
Never heard of this kid until I watched this video. I am very impressed with his riding. By the looks of it, he could mix it up with the top guys in the junior world cup series for sure! I think you have to be 16 to race world cups though, so 2015 season we will be seeing a lot more of Magnus! Great video!
  • 12 14
There's loads of fast kids around, don't confuse the ability to jump on groomed trails with downhill speed, they are completely different.
  • 15 2
@darrendouche there seems to be a hint of jealousy in your comments haha
  • 9 1
The Canadian flag on his left arm means he was our junior national champ last year.Lots of fast racers in Canada but no knows who any of them are other than Stevie Smith.Support is hard to come by for racers here.

  • 22 5
Seriously, this kid has a wolrd cup-worthy bike, is sponsored by one of the biggest bike shops in Canada, lives in the Mecca of mountainbiking, and still asks for 10000 bucks???
Steve Smith's mom couldn't even afford to buy him his first bike, he still succeeded, so why wouldn't that kid?

Dunbar Cycles is hardly one of the biggest bike shops in Canada. May not even be in the top five for the Vancouver area.
  • 8 0
you clearly haven't been to the new location.. pretty sure its the only bike shop in canada with a nice big fireplace Razz
  • 3 5
Dunbar isn't anywhere near being the biggest in Canada, if you walk inside their shop it's obvious they're in it because they love the sport, not because of profit margins. MEC should support him, they dwarf every other shop in Canada so they must have enough to support Magnus for every world cup he attends...
  • 8 0
 MEC isn't a bike shop
  • 3 4
They sell bikes and bike parts and compete pretty well with our bike shops...
  • 1 0
mountain equipment coop, not mountain equipment cycles sell all mountain sport related equipment. Limited selection on gears compared to dedicated shops.
  • 2 3
Fair enough, I meant monetary support, those ghost bikes are nice (well actually I don't know, I've only heard they're nice) but I doubt they compare to his Wilson. Either way my point is that Dunbar isn't anywhere near the biggest shop in Canada.
  • 18 0
Kid rips and seems to have his head on straight. Best of luck to him in the future.
  • 6 1
Agreed. Cool to see how focused and determined he is
  • 16 1
Don't get me wrong, I wish this kid and his career nothing but the best, although it's hard to be convinced to give someone charity who's sponsored, riding a World Cup level bike and lives in the mecca of mountain biking. There are some people who can't even afford a basic bike to ride and this kid wants us to pay him to travel all over the west coast riding? I'm sure he's gonna have a great career but his finances should come out of his pocket and from his own hard work in my opinion

All the negativity is a load of crap! Shouldn't most of us just be happy knowing that there's another kid coming up behind Stevie that can keep Canada on the radar as far as producing top notch DH racers. I'm pretty sure most of you kids will soon enough realize that jealousy gets you no where. Magnus, keep up the good work. I hope you find funding to get to the races you wish to enter, and dominate them once you get there. Fly our flag proud.

Holy Moly that was incredible. Riding and filming of the highest order. I don't know how CC keep on getting better but they just do. This kid is rapid too. VOM March? I'd say so.
  • 8 0
 He looked...faster than you.
  • 4 0
I hate it when kids post these things about how they can't afford their dream bike and such and to donate money to them. But the way I see it with Magnus is that the kid has worked really hard to get to where he is now, he has skill and promise, and is deserving of the support he gets.
  • 4 0
This is great. Magnus smashes the stereotypes and assumptions attached to millenials and "action sports" athletes.

He has a definitive goal and is working hard to accomplish it. Rearranging school, not dropping out, to spend more time riding. Working hard at the gym, not just partying all night, to create the building blocks of winning machine. And, lest we forget, hours and hours spent on the trail repeatedly pushing himself to cut time and increase his speed.

Dedication, commitment, focus. At 15, those are rare and admirable traits.

I truly hope he succeeds.
  • 3 0
No matter what you post on the internet, some jealous asshole from some other country will always try to eat your dreams. I love the fact that Magnus is looking for funding, if he wasent he would be doing something wrong. For all the d bags commenting on this video thread I dare you to follow this kids back tire. He is a champion and could smoke out all of us on the trails. Having ridden with Magnus in the past I know first hand what he's all about. Fuck yah Magnus. I'll give you what ever I can to make your life adventure worth my support. Go for 1st you speedy demon!

Too young to predict that. Once he hits puberty he might discover girls, or cars, or motocross... easy to quit, especially when he gets to race internationals and only comes mid field with a good run and huge financial support,
  • 16 1
He is already at national level, racing his first year in u17 expert he won, by 10 seconds, and im proud to say that i was 2nd place 10 seconds back. he is my team mate and a phenomenal rider and even though my run at nationals wasn't my best, it gave me a lot of motivation to pick up speed and take away those seconds over the rest of the season. Its anyones opinion on PinkBike, but keep it to yourself if you dont have something nice to say.

Magnus, you seem like a class act...although young, you show wisdom and maturity beyond your years. Clearly you are driven and realize that not everyone gets an opportunity like this, moreover you realize that your skills being supplemented by your great support structure is ultimately the winning combination. Again congrats and i'm sure you'll make your mark on the MTB scene
  • 6 4
Its hard when you see kids like this who have all the best gear they didn't pay for getting to race and ride in places I can only dream about. And then there you are working your ass off to buy a bike and maybe get to a few races. Having no one to back you up. But hey kids got talent no matter what keep charging man

donations seriously? I mean i get it you work hard but you have enough money, but we don't have donation appeals for the children of Syria on here for example and they are defiantly in need of it more than this guy. I just mean if this gets on the homepage why don't we have many charities appeals on here. (yes i know we have the breast cancer ones but that's all we have in reality) just my opinion sorry if you don't like it....
  • 2 0
I feel bad this kid isn't getting as much support as I thought he would. This kid shreds so hard, he obviously a gifted person, and he is willing to put in the work it takes to be a pro racer. He's grinding through highschool, and practicing to be a pro racer. Come on guys. If you were in that situation wouldn't you apreciate the support? I know I would!
  • 7 6
He seems a sweet rider by all means but it just seems a bit desperate to 'plead' to the pinkbike community. I know a lot of riders including myself have to work bloody hard to get anywhere in downhill, and you don't see all of us begging.
  • 7 8
Yea dude your so right, Magnus doesn't work hard at all... he totally doesn't spend every waking hour of the day, at school, training or working a shitty minimum wage job to fund his racing and try to make his dreams come true. Yea, you probly deserve it way more..
  • 8 2
Obviously he's been working hard, nobody is denying that. If pinkbike had a pole to see how many people on here got their racing funds from a shit minimum wage job we'd all be on it.
  • 5 3
 Plus infinity.
Fund yourself or get sponsors to pay.
Don't ask me to pay for you to travel and for you to go have fun.
We all wanna do that and have to pay for it ourselves - what makes you different.

How long could you have been grinding at your minimum wage job if your 15 ?
Some grown men with full time jobs can't afford what you have now - should they care that you wanna go race on their dime.

I really wish you well but I think your idea sucks - 15 year wants money from strangers to ride his bike.
  • 1 1
difference between him and you is that he has the potential to make it to the top. What if Sam Hill, Steve Smith or Gee Atherton never had help as an up and comer... they likely would not be where they are today. this kid is doing the best he can with virtually no support from family. And sadly, sponsors don't want to pay for a juniors way to races. So really there's not much alternative.
  • 3 1
Or maybe just race at the races he can afford to and if he really has the talent to progress he will see sponsors in the future.
Like at 17 or 18 when's he's really old. Lol.
Asking other hard working peeps for money that you have no intention or way of returning is sad.
I've worked since I was 12 so don't wine on about grinding for money - we've all been doin it a lot longer than you.
When or if your world champ and have the world at your fingertips are you gonna pay these people back ?
Don't think so.
Sad. I think anyway.
  • 3 2
@beeone72 you clearly haven't gotten past this pinkbike article, Magnus HAS givebacks for donations, if you went to his indiegogo www.indiegogo.com/projects/magnus-racing you'd find he's selling brand new Derailleurs and shifters, brakes, Arrival, and T-shirts, and honestly the deals are a bit less than your normal shop price. Do a bit more research. He is giving back, it may not be your name on a gold plack but at least he's trying to give back to people who will donate to him.
  • 3 1
I looked at the page / items when I first read the article so I did do the research.
10 or 11 parts is what he has + emails and shoutouts. Thanks.
I wish and already wished him the best in his future BUT I don't think aspiring racers should be getting articles plying for donations on Pinkbike.

I'm putting a article together for next week if that's the case.

"Please donate to my Whistler trip"

Worth a shot. Shout outs for everyone !
  • 3 0
All your little friends can comment all they want. Them being 15-18 they all have very little idea about the value of a dollar.
Go get another job this winter. Work 2. Your young.
By the looks of it ( your donation total ) you probably won't have to , so don't worry about it.

Let's see where this goes with all the future " talented young riders " showing their promos and asking for us , the Pinkbike community to supply them with the items and travel funds they deserve ..... apparently ........, so I've been told.

Magnus kills it and is the most humble kid iv met. anyone on here who thinks he's asking to much for funding with his riding is way out of line. he sends it harder then most people. And racing cost a lot of money and he's got nice gear because of sponsors and racing but this kid is insanely fast and needs support to give him the opportunity to be the worlds best some day!
