I got back to Colombia just a month ago and already being back on the podium is a huge honor. I was very hungry for victory at a national in Colombia since the last time I fell down and end up in 4th position.
The Tocancipá track is 2600 meters above sea level and is fast, short, dry and with a quite bumpy terrain with rocks along the way. You can definitely feel the lack of air, but I think the pace of the European season kept me in good shape for this kind of track. This has been my 5th win in the elite category in the national championships. This also means that I will be racing with the Colombian flag again in my uniform during the 2015 season!
Tocancipá was great fun! Besides winning, I also had a chance to race again head to head with my brother Rafael Gutierrez (a promising young downhiller ) and some other great competitors of Colombia. This proves that the Colombian downhill scene has exponential growth potential, and we will be seeing more Pro riders in the upcoming years.
I want to thank everyone who came to watch the race and those who wrote to me on social networks - your support has been very important for me this season. There is only one more race in the calendar (Mexico) and then is time start thinking of 2015. Thanks to Giant, RedBull, University of Manizales, TLG, Herragro and Moveo for your continuous support, without it none of this could be achieved.
Ride and smile
Marcelo.
