Dear UCI, I know you aren't listening and don't care about DH mountain biking, but please, please, please, more courses like this. We don't want to see the pedaling along flat straights for 40 seconds and people riding trail bikes on a world cup dh course. We want this, and it seems the riders do as well.
What makes people say that the UCI is behind the tracks being less rough / proper and more pedally? Never understood what would be in it for them. I figure its got more to do with what ka-brap is saying...venues with resources and organization enough to host WCs. Hafjell (which all the riders seemed to like), for example, is apparently disappearing from the circuit because of internal financial/admin problems, not because of the UCI.
I think if you look at the IXS cup schedule this year then you would see that there are lots of venues available to hold top level dh races. Obviously there is a reason they chose to go with the IXS cup and not the UCI world cup this year. That is my point. The UCI gets to select out of the venues that apply. Perhaps UCI is charging too much money. It's a joke to have the winner of the world cup take home a couple thousand euros, for the venue to have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars, for the UCI to walk away without any real cares, and DH having nothing to show for it but lackluster courses that the riders loathe.
Also, UCI has a technical delegate that could approach each venue and say "this is bullshit, we don't want the best riders in the world using trail bikes, we want to demonstrate their skills. Please construct a more appropriate track or we will not take your copious amounts of money next year".
It pretty much boils down to the UCI sucking, focusing on the money and not the growth of the sport because all they seem to care about is the road racing and forcing XCE down our throats.
Just an FYI- the UCI's gravity technical delegate is David Vazquez, an ex-World Cup racer who has a fairly solid track record with 4 wins, a European Championship title, along with 2nd and 3rd Overall results to his name. He is heavily involved with track selection, finding new venues for the races, and gathering all of the feedback following a race. I'm sure he isn't 100% responsible but at least we have an ex-racer who is passionate about the sport and trying his best to make the races awesome.
Great season next years gonna be yet another battle! Hills back to form. Now get Stevie smith back to good health. I'll say top five in no order. Hill, Smith, Gwin, Brosnan, Bryceland.
Congratulations Ratboy -well deserved. Good to see Sam Hill back on the podium where he belongs too. You can tell how good the track is by how well Sam does on it.
