Washington State Indoor 4X Racer Callout!

2009/2010 Peninsula Indoor 4x season ready to kick off Nov 14!
We’re only one week away from the opening round of the 1st indoor 4x winter series in Washington State and from the buzz it looks to be a good turnout. Before each race, there will be a different bike company doing bike demos for riders to try out their favorite hard tail or short travel bikes. At the first race on November 14th, Transition Bikes will be in the house from 10:30 to 2:30 doing a bike demo with their Bank, Double, & TOP bikes, barbecuing hot dogs and cranking the music. Transition’s Dirt Jumping/Freeride mad man Mike Metzger will be there along with Lars Stenberg to answer any questions about the bikes. If this demo is anything like their recent demo at the Colonnade bike park in Seattle you won’t want to miss it.

Race details inside,
The pro class looks to be a shaping up to be a war.
2009 Overall Fluidride Cup DH champ & new Transition Bikes race team manager Lars Sternberg will be going back to his small bike roots to slay some 4x races. Expect Lars to be wicked fast as always. Fresh off his Moscow Arms Race win, Transitions Kyle Thomas will look to take his winning in DH over to 4x. No one will know the track better than BMX pro Daniel Mazuti. Mazuti’s dad Allen runs the races at PI. Expect Daniel Mazuti to be very fast. USA Cycling Jr men’s DH rep at the world championships Luciano Worl will be tossing his hat in the ring to see if he can show the old guys who’s the man in 4x in the NW. A host of other pros look to battle it out for the FSA pro 4x purse.
A couple of the other classes to watch:
In 30-39, Veteran BMXer Allen Levine has spent most of the past year on a mountain bike but expect his BMX skills to rise to the top at the tight PI indoor track.
2009 Fluideride DH cat 1 Champ & #2 at USA Cycling National’s Dirt Corp’s head honcho Matt Patterson will be looking to add to his resume with some 4x wins in 2009/2010 season.
In 40+, Old guy DH master Mike Estes (Cove Bikes, Alpinestars) is making the haul up from Hood River, Oregon to give it a go in 4x this winter. He will have to contend with current 40+ 4x National Champion Jason Gibb (Transition, SBS, NuTech Industrial) out of Redmond, WA. Both Estes and Gibb had almost perfect seasons in their specialty so it should be a great race.
With the Northwest being a hot bed for some of the best BMX racers in the nation, don’t be surprised if they find a bike and join in the fray.

im allready tired looks fun tho
gritstone what actually happened to sheffeild? i knew they took it out the nps but i didnt know why! :L thanks
I’m not entirely sure to be honest dan. My guess would be the nps having choice over a number of different possible venues of the following year, which left Sheffield out. I’m not sure why the bmx track didn’t last long there, maybe someone could expand…
great idea would be cool to see a DH format indoors, using your real name and referring to yourself in the 3rd person, sophisticated......
Alan, you need some sleep! You got marbles on your fingertips. LOL! (An indoor DH, holy crap would that be hard to pull off.....) Be safe dude, glad it wasn't you on the Ft Hood story!! (trying to be funny)
mmm.. not sure on the subject of BMX tracks ... oh 4X my bad...
Wheres all the rocks and drops and fun???

Wish I could check it out. Except I'm racing my actual BMX bike that weekend. Hopefully I can make some of the other dates. Looking forward to it actually. The NW scene keeps getting better & better.
The track is an indoor bmx track that has been racing since 1980.
Trust me if i could add logs, rocks and double berms I would but we cant.
They race bmx 3 times a week & practice 1 day at this track in the winter and we cant tear it up.
Our hope is to provide 4x racing in the winter so people that want to race have a place to race when the rain comes in the Northwest and riding outside can be a little tough.
The last race on March 6th will be a USA Cycling Nationals qualifer.
We are going to blow that up big stay tuned.

I was wondering about the 26" only clause. What about people like Darrell Young. Rides for Arrow and is a legit NW 4x racer. He rides a 24" 4x/Slalom bike. Not a jumper, but race bike. So are people like him excluded because their sponsors only make 24" "race" bikes. I heard some people complaining about that issue this weekend. So I thought maybe I could get a answer on that.
Darrel Young has not competed in a full year and if he wanted to race at Port Orchard he could enter the ABA BMX race as a cruiser. It would be cool to see Darrel come back to racing as he is one of Oregon's best all around racers.
No worries- let me know if you have a planned ride in HR- It would be fun to show you some secret spots.
