Trek

Yeah, that’s right: you get a shot at winning a blazing fast, extra awesome Trek Fuel EX 29 trail bike, and all you have to do is kick some cash toward supporting the next generation of little rippers coming up through National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Details below, but the short version is this: Every $5 donated gets you a shot at the bike. Just go here to donate and enter Pinkbike in the referral-by field of the donation form. Winners will be announced in late April.

After announcing their partnership in July 2015, NICA and Pinkbike are teaming up with Trek Bikes out of Waterloo, Wisconsin to auction off a Trek Fuel EX9 with donated proceeds going back to funding NICA efforts and developing new and existing leagues throughout the U.S. Through each minimum donation of $5 you are entered to win a 2016 Trek Fuel EX9 trail bike. Proceeds go to continuing development of new and existing NICA leagues throughout the U.S.

With NICA quickly expanding to having 19 different leagues across the U.S., their partnership with Pinkbike allows for supported growth and development of the next generation of responsible riders. As stated back in July, Karl Burkat, CEO of Pinkbike, is excited to be a part of the continued growth of the sport. “NICA ensures continued business success for everyone serving the cycling market: today’s young rippers are the future adult enthusiast customers. We’re proud to support NICA with fundraising and promotional efforts as they continue to pursue their mission.”

Austin McInerny who is the Executive Director with NICA stated, “We’d like to offer a huge thank you to Pinkbike and Trek for their support. Having the power of such a large media brand along with Trek behind us will help us continue to share our work in the mountain bike community, and welcome new participants and supporters to NICA.”

Not only is NICA seeing growth from the student-athletes, but from parents and friends as well. 75% of NICA student-athletes report that other family and friends started riding as a result of their participation.

Sierra Club is against bike riding outdoors.

If this is stupid I'm sorry, but is the Sierra Club really against riding outdoors?
  • 4 1
They really are. For example local chapter here is arguing against opening riding on wide fireroads in SF peninsula hills. They are the reason behind wilderness trails ban. Behind pacific crest trail ban. Their idea of interacting with nature is glossy books on coffee table and meditating on a bench near parking lot. They fundamentally hate people and distrust them. And they are in the pocket of well heeled equestrians in fancy foothill towns who fight to exclude bikes from all easily accessible trails.
Just visit local land manager meetings and listen to those obnoxious self righteous housewives with pony fantasies and complete lack of sense of what constitutes "impact" on nature. John Muir is rolling in his grave.

I filled out the form to donate $20, but the amount field below listed it as $10. It seems to work for the other amounts, and if I put it in the Other Amount field. Just a heads up...

Do this! Most high school MTB teams are considered "club sports" and thus the school doesn't fund them. Really dumb especially considering how expensive a sport MTB is. Also considering the fact that my school funds my football team (that has like 15 people on it and only won two games this season), but doesn't fund our MTB Team (60 people, 5 time state champs) -_-

As someone who started a NICA team in Arizona so that I could race and get my friends and brother involved in racing, I can tell you that there is no better way to get kids mountain biking than to invite them to join a NICA team. Good stuff, Trek!
