Dec 8, 2016
by Pinkbike Staff
Advent 2016 - Whyte Bikes - 8 December

8 December draw is now closed. The winner of the Whyte T-130 S is Pinkbike user spankthewan. Congratulations @spankthewan

PRIZE DETAILS:

The UK designed Whyte T-130 S redefines the "Trail Bike" category and has reaped the perfect scores and bike of the year awards to prove it. Light and efficient enough to hang with the fastest race crowd all day long and punch up climbs like an e-Bike. Tough and controlled enough to tackle the most brutal black diamond runs. But most of all, so impeccably balanced, perfectly composed and blisteringly fast that it rewrote not just what you could expect from a 130mm Trail bike, but what you could expect from yourself.

Never mind yesterday's prize. I will have this one and the kids can just run behind.
  • 6 3
 please please please
  • 6 3
For sure, but why does it have a 2.3 tire on the front and 2.4 on the rear??? Weird.
  • 13 4
@rrolly: its british, everything backwards on that side of the pond
  • 2 0
did you find yourself clicking much faster than usual today?
  • 2 1
@rrolly: that's something I've noticed people doing lately, including my friends. I really don't get it.
  • 5 1
@rrolly: I mean a 2.3 vigi is way more aggro and probably bigger than a 2.4 trail boss
  • 1 2
@mtbfraser: that and also you want a tyre up front that can cut through the British slop and not float on top. It would be narrower if you put a mud tyre up front.

Pinkbike and Whyte, you guys just made me one extremely happy desk jockey. I'm the crazy guy staring at his computer screen, hyperventilating, and laughing.
  • 2 0
Congrats! I have a T-129. Whyte is an awesome company! Their customer service is amazing, not to mention the trail-killing-machine bike.
  • 5 0
if you are a desk jockey. does that not technically make you a DJ
  • 2 0
 that's awesome, congrats dude.

I'd probably be like you... if I had won this prize, or any prize really!

OMG, this should be the best prize, the Xmas eve prize. Surely there cannot be any bigger prizes !! I want / need this. Mainly as my Mountain Bike is fubar'd, and I currently only have a Cyclocross Bike. Please let this be my first and only Pink Bike Advent Calendar win.

...punch up climbs like an e-Bike...

No one likes e-bikes over here. Poor bike. Allright, give it to me then.

I dont like e-bikes but I don't hate e-bikes like the e-bike haters here. next year I make 48 and the steep climbs in my trails are asking me to buy one e-bike just as an option because I have a V10, a Demo and a Giant Reign that is not good on uphill with a XT 1x11 group.
Are you racist? you like it or not its a Mountain Bike with and engine. It's not a motorcycle with pedals. Open your mind. Here in Brazil we don't have any laws against motorised bikes on trails so we are not afraid of trails been closed if e-bikes go to the trail.
PB comments are so racist, the Enduro rider hates DH bikes, the XC rider hates Enduro bikes, the Dirt Jumper hates any MTB that goes uphill... we are all bikes

@rideonjon: Insulting other peoples riding disciplines and having it be called racist is the best thing I've seen in awhile
  • 1 2

I have just enough space under my tree

I wanted to buy one of these earlier this year in spring but realized it's not really possible (or atleast WAY to expensive) here in Canada. If I won this, I would cry!
  • 4 0
If you win i ll cry too because i didn't win

Looks like some winners don't even use this site! should be a litmus for involvement, ie at least not just a ghost account. - Jealous.
  • 17 2
Just because accounts are not actively posting, does not mean they are ghost accounts. (I think this was my first post ever.)

@cdcrail: "Ghost followers, also referred to as ghosts and ghost accounts or lurkers, are users on social media platforms who remain inactive or do not engage in activity. They register on platforms such as Twitter and Instagram. These users follow active members, but do not partake in liking, commenting, messaging and posting."

Literally the definition. No posts or activity = ghost account. Join date, May 2015, with zero activity other than lurking? Ghost account by definition.
  • 13 3
 @atrokz: a*shole account.
  • 2 1
 Where are the winners announced?
  • 2 3
@spinko: On the advent calendar, you can see the link on each date for the winners.
@stumpymidget using the correct verbiage (feel free to internet the term and see what it brings up...) gets that response from a sheltered millennial troll account? Awesome, I'll take that as a compliment.
  • 6 3
@atrokz: who are you calling a millenial? I am 37 years old.
  • 2 8
flag atrokz (Dec 8, 2016 at 7:55) (Below Threshold)
@stumpymidget: well your age wasn't posted, but judging by your angsty communicative abilties, I would have guessed at low 20s but I guess I'm wrong. Don't get all butt hurt over this, butt.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennials

It took me by surprise as well. I certainly don't share the same interests and life approach, but it looks like we both fall into the range according to some, and just on the edge according to others.

at any rate, pointing out the reality of the term, isn't being an a*shole. It's literally the definition. calling someone an a*shole for pointing it out, makes you one.
  • 6 2
@atrokz: yeah pointing out definitions does not make you an a*shole. How about anal retentive anorak?

@atrokz: try looking up the british definition of an anorak since your so fond of definitions.https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fi2.walesonline.co.uk%2Fincoming%2Farticle6854274.ece%2FALTERNATES%2Fs615%2FJS33946480.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.walesonline.co.uk%2Fwhats-on%2Fcomedy-news%2Freturn-mac-john-sparkes-brings-6854218&docid=PfbfF7UWvq3oWM&tbnid=dNLEl6f_azx9hM%3A&vet=1&w=615&h=409&client=tablet-android-samsung&bih=768&biw=1024&ved=0ahUKEwjk1cCD_-TQAhWBChoKHVswArIQMwglKAkwCQ&iact=mrc&uact=8

@atrokz: the vocal minority commenting on here aren't likely to be the majority of traffic whose clicks pay for this site.... this is essentially an online magazine, not a social network, so ghost accounts are hardly an issue?! but sure blame someone because you don't win and keep posting definitions. Maybe that sort of behaviour is why there are so many ghost accounts - this is easily the most abusive, passive aggressive and violent commenting page in cycling media. the responses have hardly been better so I shouldn't really be feeding the trolls.
  • 2 2
@atrokz: In british culture "anorak" is a term for a person who insists on sticking rigidly to tight definitions, even when no-one else could give a fuc......wait, i just turned into an anorak, didn't i? Bye bye.

@blitz66: of course there will be some. I still believe inactive accounts that don't contribute to the community here shouldn't be allowed, but that's just an opinion of someone who's been on here since the very start of this site. The word at the end of the post should give some very clear insight as to why I posted it, as nothing was hidden Wink . Take that word into context and the post makes a lot of sense. haha
  • 3 3
 @stumpymidget: haha. point taken.
  • 3 2
@atrokz: i can be a real anorak at times, no offence meant.
  • 3 3
@stumpymidget: me too. haha. now that I know what it means.

There's a whole bunch of competition sites which publicise competitions, such as this, to those bored*, middle aged* types who spend all day filling out competition forms and winning biscuits and puzzles.

How do I know, because my wife told me about this one - not realising I've been around this neck of the woods for many years. :/

(* Mrs Elliott20 is neither bored or middle aged, but you get the idea)
  • 1 1
@elliott-20: interesting. I wonder what those sites are. I've won nothing in my life other than some clothes for winning a DH race and 500 my first time playing bingo. Guess I used up all the luck on that one. but man, some of these prizes are awesome. I'm genuinely jealous. A full bike like this? Sign me up.
